    • Not drinking it - no good?

      • It's 👌 just don't drink alcohol that much.

      • I find it too sweet for my taste but for slightly over $30 a bottle…its more than ok lol

Its ok. Nothing great but well worth $40, even $60 is ok since glenlivet founders reserve (yuck) replaced the 12yo

    • God that was a deal!

Should have sold a kidney and bought more

  • Iv still got 3 left from boozebud deal

I don't drink alcohol but why all these whiskey deals are so tempting?

    • +1

you can always start dabbling in cocktails :P

      • Please do not buy this to dab in cocktails lol…

        • psh, old fashions for breakfast lunch and dinner, what's not to love?

I picked up a box of these from the last deal, as description states; simple, smooth and creamy mouth feel which is impressive from a low abv bottle. It could be my favourite non-peated scotch if it didn't finish with a weak soapy taste.. I hear the 16 year old is phenomenal but I never see it on sale unfortunately so have yet to try it

Ah ha, thank you SKobb. Vindication. Good to know that a whisky can taste soapy. I'm not a hard core whisky addict. :)

I tried a Talisker a few months ago (not sure which one exactly) and I mentioned to bartender it tasted soapy. Dirty glass perhaps? Nope as got a fresh free shot in new glass with same result.

How the heck do you guys know what soap taste like?

I had a super strict mother….. and i used to curse a lot

            @Samsungnote10: " used to"
Looks like your mum brought you up well. She deserves a drink, heck get her the whole bottle of this whisky

if you eat parsley straight you'll know instantly

      • Which talikser? Only started on whisky last weekend and my talisker 10 tastes like a campfire not soap.

        • 10yrold Talisker does have that aftertaste which non regular scotch drinkers do pick up on i have noticed

similar to a Japanese one i had as well. i think its got to do with the way the drink is made and whethr it has been cooled during the making process. When you add ice to the ones that havent been cooled you can see the colour of the scotch changes slightly (a bit cloudy) and gives a slightly different taste. i read up on this a while ago but cannot find the source again

          • @cumova: Huh well there you go, haven't noticed it. Now you said it it will just taste like soap to me now HAHA

      • I've been trying to build up a collection (and palate) the past year. As a beginner I tend to taste a lot of different things to other people, that being said, some people love the iodine and band-aid flavour they get from Lagavulin and can't handle the heavier peat from Ardbeg or Octomore. Whereas I'm the opposite and prefer Octomore and Ardbeg Uigeadail, being some of my favourite Scotch whiskys I taste smoked meats and cheese with them haha

i like smokey but not overpowering. the smokiest id go is Talisker Storm. For me once if goes smokey i might as well just get a cigar and start chewing on it while drinking red label.

    • You might have the soapy tasting gene (aka cilantro aversion gene)

      • I don't know if I have that gene, but I think parsely tastes like soap, and I still like it.

      • I love coriander on my Vietnamese food, so maybe not haha

    • A better whisky from that region would be Tamdhu

    • What peated whisky's do you like?

      • I was lucky enough to score a free bottle of GlenDronach Peated recently and certainly find it more smooth, subtle and enjoyable than Ardbeg 10 which is the only other peated dram I have.

This is a superb malt imho. Smooth without being bland. A dash of water (or an ice cube on a hot night) is all it needs to open out the taste.

    At $60 snap it up!.

    • Concur. Great quality single malt at this price.
