What Non-Stick Fry Pans Are You Using?

Looking at getting a decent non-stick fry pan that would hopefully last awhile. Looking at spending under $100 and have been looking at some of the Tefal pans for around this price. Any recommendations on brands/shops to look at?

I'm using my grand mothers cast iron. Has to be at least 50 years old and for all I know it was originally her grandmothers. You can probably find vintage cast iron at op shops etc otherwise new Lodge goes on sale fairly regularly and from the items I have appear to be decent quality for the price.

    • I don't think cast irons qualify as non-sticks.

Why? Food doesn't stick and it'll outlast any coating by decades and you don't have to worry about using metal utensils.

        • Yes. But also no.

          • @NatoTomato: What part is no? I've been using them for around 30 years so have some experience.

  • 25 dollar roco from Big W

  • Aldi cast iron. Heavy but should last a while.

  • We got a Scanpan one in a sale a while back. Can't remember what we paid, but it would have been under $100. It was fantastic at first, although I have to say that now we're 12 months down the track it does seem to be not quite as non-stick as it was initially.

  • $12 Woolworths Mint brand.

  • Tefal Ingenio 13 piece set. Paid about $150 from memory. Its been excellent so far, well designed set that lets me avoid a lot of clutter

    Cast iron convert here

    Pros

    • Cheap - I got the Lodge ones from Amazon (delivered free with Prime Membership)
    • Long life span - all teflon coatings will eventually break down, but cast iron lasts forever!
    • Food tastes better, especially steaks
    • Can transfer from stove to oven
    • No chemicals
    • Easy to clean - just scrub with a sponge and hot water, no soap required. Then dry immediately.
    • Nutritional - adds iron to your food every time you cook!
    • Versatile - we use ours for deep-frying, baking etc. Camp fire cooking too!
    • Even and long-lasting heat
    Cons
    • Heavy
    • Can't put in dishwasher
    • Not great for stir fries because heavy
    • May require a little maintenance initially, but once it's nicely seasoned no worries
    • Handles get hot, so you'll need a mitt

We have the Lodge L8DSK3 10.25 Inch Cast Iron Deep Skillet - good for soups, stews, deep frying
And a couple of other skillets

When I first started using them, I found that food would stick. But I was making a couple of mistakes:
    (a) not letting the pan heat up sufficiently before cooking (cast iron takes longer to heat up)
    (b) we were washing the pans with soap, which was removing the seasoning/oil layer

I gave up on cast iron due to the difficulty cleaning them as food always stuck. Maybe I wasn't heating up the pan sufficiently though…

      • Yeah doesn't sound right.
I have 5 cast iron pans and never have such an issue with any.
        They need oil to work.

      Name checks out!

This poster knows their stuff. I use mostly Cast Iron.

Where I can't (read: pancakes) I use stainless steel.

I've been using them for years now, never sticks on (well seasoned) tastes great, better heat distribution and retention.

      • Where I can't (read: pancakes)

?? Why not? Lodge make a decent pancake pan

    • Handles get hot, so you'll need a mitt

      These are your friend: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Safety-Silicone-Hot-Handle-Holde…

      I have 6, they're pretty good.

    • I use cast iron for most things, but use a de buyer carbon steel pan for things that need an even better non-stick surface like crepes. The pan is lighter than cast iron and the handle doesn't get hot

  • Arcosteel Stonehenge from Woolworths.

  • These - Anolon Endurance+ Skillet/Frying Pan Induction Frypan Cookware Kitchen Set
    $150 on ebay: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/173997412765

  • I use a Tefal frying pan and love it. I went with them because when i was looking i checked product review and the Tefal customer service had made many responses on the site which impressed me. I am very gentle with the pan and only wooden utensils but after 4 years it still looks and cooks like brand new. I can't really remember but think it cost about $60.00-$80.00. Harris Scarfe always have them on special.

I do use cast iron in the oven and stove as well and for pots and pans I've a set of scanpan coppernox (very good as well)

  • Aldi one $20

  • Fissler

  • Cast Iron.

    Best cooking surface hands down.

  • Best bang for buck is the coles $12 wok style pan. It has a large flat base and high sides that helps prevent food flying out when stirring and makes tossing food easy.
Been using mine for over a year and the coating is still excellent. Highly recommend.

  • Fissler (~$200ish) and Tefal ($80ish).

There is noticeable difference but honestly, the Tefal was good enough for me.

  • Tefal. Just don't use them in the oven.
