Sony Xperia X10 Mini Pro $99 @ Kmart - Telstra Locked

252

Available both in Kmart stores and online order. Very similar to the deal at JB Hifi earlier this year:
http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/48437

Only officially supported up to Android 2.1 but people have reported installing 2.3 onto it. A bargain at $99 as it cost over $600 last year. In the earlier deal, it was reported that Telstra will provide the unlocking codes for free so will give that a try on Monday.

Update: Telstra gave me the unlock code for free over the phone at 1300 720 179.

    Great price.

  • Hmm. A bit hesitant on this one.. Telstra may have learnt from people getting unlocked codes for free from the last sale (at JB).

But if anyone does get a free unlock from this, do report back :)

I'm using this phone and it's a hunk of crap. Save your money and get something better. I'm waiting for the iPhone 5 to change phones.

    • +4

Are you really comparing a $99 phone to the iphone 5?

  • +12

i had one of these phones and it was crap. the touch screen never worked properly had it fixed 3 times but didnt change a thing ended up paying it off and getting a new phone.. Dont waste your money on this phone theres a reason why it droped $500 in a year

Not bad not bad. In Dick Smith too for $99… so not really a deal. But I won't -ve this.

    • so its NOT available elsewhere cheaper?

      • +2

Yeah, I might as well post every cheapest item from static ice too. Damtigz experience already goes to show this isn't a bargain.

      Are you talking about this?
      http://dicksmith.com.au/product/E6754/optus-pre-paid-sony-er…

It's not the "pro" version, so no keyboard AFAIK.

  • +3

NOTE: OPTUS only has the mini version on prepaid (also for $99), not mini Pro. The mini version does NOT include sliding QWERTY keyboard.

Beat you to it bud, post above yours.

he beat you in the number of + on his post…lol

  • how does this compare to the Huewei Ideos u8150? I know one the x10 mini pro is on the Telstra bands and the Huewei is on 900/2100 bands, but how do they stack up as android phones? The specs seem very similar (x10 mini pro has a keyboard of course).

  • Going to grab one! It's actually an excellent phone. Great design and you just can't get anything half decent this size anymore (at least not anywhere near this price range - correct me if I am wrong). Battery lift is better than most smart phones as well.A little slow at times and the smaller screen can get a bit annoying for a touch screen.

If anyone can find this cheaper anywhere then please do tell.

  • Checked stock levels in Sydney, can't seem to find any in the West.

$99 is pretty cheap for a smartphone, or whatever they call it these days!

  • Does anyone know if this will work overseas - in UK or USA?

    • if unlocked, it'll work fine in the UK, but only on GSM/EDGE on AT&T in the US.

      • ?

Its quad band 2g, so it will work world wide except Japan.

and since its Telstra, it should be the 850/1900/2100 bands for 3G, and the 2100 band should be handy in quite a few countries. The 850 and 1900 would work with AT&T 3G.

        • !

Whoops, forgot that it's the telstra version. It'll work with AT&T 3G but only on 2100MHz 3G in the UK, which use 2100 and 900MHz.

        • Ah - thanks both of you!

  • bought one of these full price last year when it came out, t'was excellent IMO…

Just called up Telstra on 1300 720 179 for the unlock code. An Indian woman named Gaby gave me the code over the phone with minimum fuss, all I needed was the IMEI number.

  • So if I go and buy this, how do I recharge? The same way as I would with Optus prepaid? Sorry if I sound newby.

    • How you recharge depends only on your sim card. If you have an Optus prepaid sim card, you recharge via the methods provided by Optus. I personally prefer the TPG deals myself:
      http://www.tpg.com.au/mobile/plans.html

You must get the phone unlocked first in order to use an Optus sim card.

Just called Telstra, got Gabby, very thick accent, but she gave me the 16 digit unlock code, no problem, SO HAPPY :)

    • Hmm, called just now. Got Gina and I think she's in Manila not India, at least she didn't have an Indian accent and spoke very good English. Got the unlock code without any problem too.

      • Does this mean you can unlock this phone for free before 6 months?

    • Does this mean you can unlock this phone for free before 6 months?

      • Seems like it. I only had it for a day before I called. She didn't even ask when I bought it, only asked for the IMEI number.

  • I just called Telstra on the 1300 number and provided the IMEI and they told me I will need to pay $27.50 to have it unlocked.

    • I called again, and was told that it is free to unlock this model and they provided me with the unlock code. However inserted a Optus card and it worked without entering details - seems the handset was already unlocked in the first place.

      • Haha it's brilliant! It's so tempting that I'd wanna buy it now just to see if it's really the case lol. The offer is still going on by the way, not expired!

  • The phone did not come as unlocked itself, BUT i called 1300 720 179 and GOT THE UNLOCKING CODE FOR FREE WITHOUT ANY HASSLE! It's absolutely free to unlock this specific model, do insist if they say otherwise!
Oh and the offer is not going to expire unless they sell this one out, so call your local K-Mart to see if they still have one in stock! Great bargain!

    • I bought 1 from Kmart Cranbourne 3 weeks ago. That one was locked and I had to get the code. Then, a week after, I bought 2 more from Kmart Hastings (they were the only ones with stock at that time, had to drive for an hour to get there).

The latter 2 that I got were already unlocked. Other difference is the camera button on the latter 2 is marked with a white camera symbol while the first one I got has the symbol but is not coloured.

      • Good spotting. The one I have is uncoloured and is locked.
