Big W having a clearance sale on 4 burner bbqs. Probably not the best brand but for $129 it's not a bad cheap option

  • Someone with experience with these, what's the difference between something like this for example and a BeefEater 4 Burner Hooded Discovery 1000E BBQ which is around $650 at Bunnings. They look almost identical. Is it the material cost? Does this rust very quickly for example?

One is like a Toyota Camry and the other is like a 3 series BMW.

(Tip - beefeater is the camry)

I don't know anything about the barbeque whatsoever but its not gonna be good at that pricepoint.

I'm guessing the Burners will be the first issue, low heat output followed by the cooking surface being raw cast iron which needs oiling before and after cooking and will rust very fast nonetheless.

Then you go under into the flame tamers which will be paper thin, same with the burners which will die within the first 3 monmths to a year.

The BBQ looks really cheap but when you spend an hour putting it together and then only to throw it out 6 months later(people near the beach) is it worth it, absolutely not.

Just my two cents- Guy who has sold BBQ's for nearly 5 years

      • Thank you for your feedback. If it's not too much to ask, what BBQ do you recommend? Preferably a good one that I can later add a sink to when needed. Also one that can be converted to use house gas. When we renovated the kitchen, we had them put a gas pipe outside the kitchen for outdoor use, but haven't got a BBQ for it yet.

Matador (at Bunnings) is a good enough brand. Not cheap and not a rip off. Great value for money

I bought a used stainless steel bbq from facebook marketplace for $80. It is a Morris Haagen which I am not familiar with but quality seems nice. I've been using it for a year now and can honestly say it is worth $300 or more at its current condition. If you're after something inexpensive, second hand is another option. Obviously there's a bit of luck needed but it doesn't hurt to look

    • Beefeater is much better quality and worth paying extra for.

This big w one most likely will take ages to produce the heat required to cook food. My dad has a cheap Bunnings one and it's a piece of crap compared to my beefeater bbq

      Thanks, edited the post.

  • FWIW Looks almost exactly the same as one I got nearly 10 years ago and is still going fine…burners are a bit rusty , cast iron holding the flame tamers cracked here and there but it still smokes the Xmas ham fine! Mine was a bit dearer than this and it was from BBQs Galore but they look the same.
