ANA has added quite a bit of capacity to Sydney in such a short time, they were bound to have to discount the fares to fill up the new service.

    Cue the virus

  • +5

Seems like most returning flights from Tokyo are at 845am in the morning. Checking out of a hotel at 6am doesn't seem too inviting as a close to a vacation. A downside to an otherwise great price.

    • +23

My son's flight in to Heathrow in June has already been cancelled by Virgin because it goes via Hong Kong.

How is that relevant? This is a direct flight to Japan, which is not China whatsoever.

      • -7

No probs. I'll see how this comment ages with the pandemic.

        • +3

It is not relevant at all because Virgin decided to exit Hong Kong market. Flights between Mel and HK already terminated last year and Sydney-HK line will end in March.

    • Free Corona would be the better seat-seller

Japan has 80+ cases of Coronavirus confirmed. It isn’t safe anymore.

    • +4

The 41 cases from the cruise ship docked off Yokohama doubled the total cases in Japan.

      • +1

Now it's 61 cases from the cruise ship. So approx 75% from one location.

    • read the figures again,

the cruise ships are now categorised as International conveyance, and outside country specific figures.

If you don't like taking risks, don't go. If you do like taking risks, don't buy yet, these flights will only get cheaper.

  • -1

Every disease, plane, car you get in is a risk and not safe, but retards like to scare people more when it comes to asian people

    • +4

Take a deep breath…then recompose your sentence.

      • +4

Risky move… more probability of inhaling a virus with a deeper breath.

    • The risk is prob low…but the risk of needing to go thru quarrantine or needing to worry when someone on the plane is coughing imo is not worth it

  • How about business class?

  • These prices are through flight network, mytrip and gotogate.. has anyone successfully used any of them? Online reviews don’t seem too great..

    • We travelled to Europe through mytrip and had no issues at all. I've also used gotogate without any issues.

    • +2

I know I'm the OP, but personally used mytrip and gotogate without issue.

    • +2

They're ok, unless you make a mistake when booking like a wrong number or mispelled name, then you're in a world of pain, just double and triple check every entry before you press "book now".

  • A look at the flights to Osaka and I’m still happy with our jetstar free return price of <$400

These flights have a stopover of 10 hours in Tokyo when going to Osaka. Much prefer the 3-5 wait in cairns on jetstar and cost saving… 10 hours is just too much

    • +4

Fly into Tokyo and experience the delights of Tokyo. Then take a Shinkansen to Osaka it’s only 2.5hrs away. There’s so much to do in both places.

      • Would’ve but been there dome that. Good idea for others though

      • Think you need to do the full trip cant just get out at tokyo. They can fine you

        • Source? That would be interesting if someone has been "fined" for skiplagging. Airlines have tried in the US and completely failed in court.

The airline may refuse to sell you a future ticket or cancel your return ticket, but they can't fine you. If you've only got carry on there is virtually no risk - the problem is the return leg. You could probably get away with an excuse that you had an emergency and pray they don't cancel it..

    • 10 hour layovers are great. During the day.

      Night time - forget it.

Any deals from Adelaide? Preferably close to the 1st of April to the 21st

  • -4

You'd be mad going to asia this year.

    • Interestingly until a few days ago the incidence in Japan was about 40 vs 15 in Australia so not particularly concerning.

Now it has jumped in one day, due to the cruise ship docked in their waters???

  • There are currently 34,375 confirmed cases worldwide, including 719 fatalities

  • Travel in the warmer months as the virus can't survive in the heat

  • +2

FYI Japan is the highest infected Coronavirus outside of China. You better wear masks at high density areas if you do intend to go

    • A mask on the trains is good advice anytime, regardless of the coronavirus outbreak. Japanese have been wearing masks on public transport for 40 years. It's not only this latest virus - colds and flu are rampant in Tokyo in winter and many workers refuse to stay away from work when they're sick, putting all other passengers at risk.

      • -3

        Defender of Japanese.

      • -1

Refuse to take sick leave… That's hardcore. However no matter how hard they work they can't get back to the golden era of Japan 70-90s

        Sad….

    • +2

Because there is a high number of Chinese who go there for holiday.

Also that boat Diamond Princess has 61 affected people.

So if Japan turned that boat away it would have been less

  • +3

Japan is no.2 Coronavirus in tally, better to avoid it.

    • +2

If any populated country can handle a virus outbreak I would trust Japan over many others such as Hong Kong / Indonesia / Queensland :)

      • +2

Japan has better healthcare and people generally has respects of others general well being compare to HK and Indonesia

  • I’d have to think these flights will only get cheaper for anyone crazy enough to travel to Asia this year.

  • -2

Do we need to buy return? I thought we just need a one way ticket with free Corona thrown in. Best deals from ANA so far!

    • +1

To enter the country you need an exit ticket and a date of departure unless you are staying for work etc. Then you would need other papers.

  • Going there on the week of the Olympics opening ceremony, booked with JAL which was roughly $670 direct but had I known ANA would do one better I would have waited a little longer, oh well. Anyways you'd think that after half a year they'd at least have a vaccine prepared and see less risk during the summer period.

    • Perhaps Olympics will be cancelled due to Coronavirus…

  • For Tokyo is it Haneda or Narita airports?

    • Go Hanada. Closer to the city.

    • ana fly to narita from perth and haneda from sydney

  • Sod the virus, that is summer time in Japan. As Herbert Morris once didn't say. Oh the humidity.

Still I have never done summer in Japan, it's always been snow snow and more snow. I think dates for Autumn would be tempting. Other issue for me is this is out of Sydney and last time I did them, I had to say there overnight to catch the early flight. Saying that, 12:00pm flight is a good time to leave Sydney, plenty of time to escape Adelaide.

Back on the Knacks 'My Corona', Japan will be pulling in as much non-Chinese visitors as possible. The Chinese people are great tourist and do spend a lot of money in Japan… And Australia. It's going to hurt a lot of countries financially. Hope the cure is found soon.

    • Go late Autumn. I did early autumn and it was still very hot and very humid. I'd hate to experience their summer.

      • How was it, temperature wise? I've booked flights for early October this year but really hoping that the weather will be nice!

        • Always shorts and shirt weather. About 25-30 with a peak of 34. Depends how well you take humidity.

  • Do the stewardesses wear masks?

    • -6

Went to chemist saw a middle eastern man as cashier wearing mask. Almost want to question him why as he asked me did I find everything I needed. Almost wanted to tell him I couldn't find the mask that you are wearing.

      • Why do you have a problem with others wearing a mask?

        • They are scared of the masked bandit

  • Is april too late to see the cherry blossoms

  • Any from melbourne?

    • Not with ANA, they don't do that route :( But click Melbourne on our site, there's deals to Tokyo there!
