    Nice find mate!

I've bought stuff from Mighty Ape before (board games), they were fine.

I'd still be taking this to Officeworks for a price match before ordering from them, though.

I can vouch for Mighty Ape. Purchased many things from them many times.
The only complaint I have is most preorders seem to arrive way late, but that won't be a problem here.

  • Said estimated delivery 17-24 Feb for me so still a bit of a wait but not too bad, much better than the 2 months at amazon lol, so yeah cheers m8 i missed the amazon deal, got this one

  • Are there any Promotional Codes available for Mighty Ape?

Had two of these fail within months of purchase. Data was more
Important than the warranty, so tried to see if shucking them and remounting would help, it didn’t. Just junk.

    • +1

what is the model that was inside?

I heard they are rosewood drives which are just crap

      • +1

Can’t remember, but they both failed in no time and normal use.

        • do you still have the hdds or thrown it away?

if you still got it please check and post photo…

This video opens the same Seagate 2tb hard drive and the code is ST2000LM007.

If you look up ST2000LM007 rosewood then you'll see it is indeed a rosewood drive

        • They didn't offer me a rosewood, just black, I would've grabbed a mahogany one if they had them.

    • Just junk.

      Aka Seagate.

      • I've had a seagate freeagent goflex for 10 years and its still working well

Just price beat it at Officeworks over the phone for $54.14 including free delivery. For some reason they didn't include the delivery charge! Thanks OP! They also said it would be delivered by Tuesday.

    • +1

be careful since these could be rosewood hdd

      which are just crap

      • +1

It's just for an extra backup. I already have the same 2tb Seagate that I've used for years with my Xbox one, no issues.

    • Do Officeworks have a online chat option?

      • +1

Not that I'm aware of. It's pretty easy to call up though, don't have to wait long.

    • +1

Thanks! Called them and got for the same price as well

If anyone needs Seagate 4TB Expansion Desktop Drive $96.03 with POOL3 code at Bing Lee eBay

    • Rosewood?

      • free delivery with eBay+, no idea what you mean rosewood

        • +1

Sorry, I meant if the actual hardware is a Rosewood model HDD haha. Thanks :)

          • @OfTheOverflow: Typical Rosewood hard drives are 1-2tb 2.5 inch.

This is 4tb 3.5 inch (ST4000DM004), so I don't believe it is Rosewood

    • +3

      Pity it's not portable.

Word of advice for people who want to buy this:

This is a Rosewood drive (ST2000LM007), so if you plan to use this on your laptop as an internal hard drive or anything like that. I 100% don't recommend doing that because they are known to have a really high failure rate compared to other Hard Drives. Also, data recovery is known to be pretty bad in these drives

If you plan to use it for casual use or just a backup then you'll be fine.

    • I backup to 2 external HDD (different brands) and burn more valuable data such as photos to Verbatim BD-R, but they are expensive than HDD :(

    • The manufacturer code is STEA2000400, or am I looking at a different code?

      • +1

That code you quoted is the external hard drive product code. ST2000LM007 is the actual HDD used inside.
Rosewood 2.5" HDDs have really bad reputation. If you are doing multiple backups and you are getting it to just do one backup (and you will have a different HDD/SSD/BD-R to do another backup, then it is fair enough to get one).

        • Thanks, I just saw the video above.

        • My other HDD is WD20NMVW, is it a good one ?

      • +1

That is the product code of the expansion portable hard drive.

The serial number of the actual hard drive inside is (ST2000LM007)

        Heres proof:

    • Would you recommend them for a PS4 upgrade drive or better off spending the extra $30 on a better drive?

      • I bought the 2TB drive at Officeworks to use as an external on the PS4. One end of the cable is USB3 the other is not, more like proprietary to connect to the drive.

        • It’s not proprietary. It’s just the USB 3 version of the ‘micro b’ cable. Super common

        • The plug on the other end of the cable that you got is a USB 3.0 Micro-B plug.

    • What HD (Portable or not) would you recommend for important data?

      • Whatever you choose, don't ever rely on a single drive - any brand can fail. Work out your backup plan and how many drives you need, then work out what drive combination you can afford.

        • I wanted one to backup my photos as my desktop drive recently had an issue, luckily I managed to recover them but that scared me. How many places do people usually store them?

          • @MeesusEff: Pretty much, any hard drive that isn't a Rosewood should be ok for the most part.

    • Does that mean if I buy one from Officeworks with a price beat then it will also be a Rosewood drive? I.e. are all Seagate portable 2TB rosewood or do Officeworks sell a better version?

      • +1

        Its the same one

        • Thanks for the quick reply, I'll pass on this one!

  • +1

I tried to click & collect a ps4 game from these guys and it was nearly impossible to avoid all the barrels they throwing in front of me.

    • +1

      They aren't called Mighty Kong!

  • I wish internal drives were this low. Still looking at $89 for the cheapest 2TB.

  • Note: MightyApe is in New Zealand - so you may be hit with a currency conversion fee on your CC (unless you use a fee-free card like 28 degrees).

    • I've never paid that, always been an Australian charge. I have had anything from them for about 6 months though so that may have changed.

  • Thanks OP, got Officeworks to price beat it earlier on today!

  • My order's expected shipping is 15th of August 2020 now… was 14th of February when I bought this item, anyone else the same?

    • oh sheet wtf.. is there a way to check? i didnt make an account (checked out as guest) so not sure if i can check my order on the website now : /

      • +1

Mine says shipping on Monday 17th of Feb now, must have been a mistake
