Tenda Nova MW6 Optimal Set up Help

Hey guys,

I've got 2 Tenda Nova MW6 units as well as a D-Link AC3200 Ultra Wi-Fi Router. My house is quite long, so I was looking for the best way to set this up for optimal coverage.

I've got the AC3200 in the middle of the house connected to ethernet ports at either ends of my house. I was planning of putting the MW6 units at each of the sides of the house, connected to the ethernet ports.

I've done some reading and have found that people are suggesting turning my MW6 units to Bridge Mode, and turning off my Router's Wi-fi. Would this be a smart idea? I'm worried about the middle of my house having no coverage.

Is it a must that I turn off my router's wifi when using the Novas?

Before this, I was using TP-link range extenders connected to the ports, but got sick of having to manually change networks on my phone & laptop when moving from one side of the house to another.

Are there any other ways I can set up my Network system?

Let me know,

Cheers.

  • Why not disable wifi and see the signal you get with the other units available?

  • Enabling bridge mode depends.. What kind of nbn? FTTN, FTTB, FTTC, FTTP, HFC?

  • The MW6 will not join with your D-link to make a mesh, you will see 2 same SSIDs if you don't disable the wifi on the D-link

i have a 1 MW6 in front bedroom, 1 in kitchen(middle of house) and 1 in the rear bedroom. full wifi everywhere

Trying using your 2 units first and split them evenly to reach the full area of your house, if it doesn't work then wait for sale and add more MW6 or MW3 (MW5 are sold at officeworks now too)

No it isn't, but it will depend on what you want to achieve and how you want to do it.

There are many other ways and some ways better than others. But you have already started on the path of mesh and it is too late to turn back unless you want to start planning your Wi-Fi network all over again.

If I elaborate any more, I will start to offend mesh fanboys who in turn will neg my comment. So I will shut up and enjoy watching the mesh show instead. (vince088's suggestion that with sufficient number of nodes in your network, all your Wi-Fi problem will go away is funny.)
