How Would You Define an "OzBargainer"?

Grinds my gears when I read people commenting "hand in your OzBargain license" etc when people suggesting spending a small amount more for convenience etc. I don't believe this site is really made up of members who count every cent, and eat $0.50 ramen for every meal!

Members here buy expensive cars, phones, PC gear etc. Other members live off $0.50 ramen and cheap Domino's! Everyone saves where they can, however.

So, I was thinking and I would define it as:

OzBargainer:
An individual who saves money on the items they need, to spend money on the items they want, all while ensuring they spend the lowest amount at the time

Anyone else have their own definition?

    OzBargainer:
People who think ozb is all about saving them money, in fact they spend more money for unnecessary purchases and too much time checking the website.

    • +2

So what are the people who are aware that ozbargain isn't saving them money but still waste time and money on ozbargain?

      • +5

Self aware OzBargainer? Or just dumb. (Before you flame me, this is me…)

I got fired for spending too much time on ozbargain during thr work day.

Saved $5 on purchases but down $1000s in income

      • Same, in 2015

      • Wait, they were tracking your internet usage?

        • You know that proxy all your work traffic probably goes through?

          • @BartholemewH: I know that but i didnt knew they were fire people for it and actually monitor proper usage. I am not so sure how long i can hold my casual Goverment job now

      True words ChiMot.

I was once rich, with a high paying job, a supermodel wife, a mansion in Toorak and rubbed shoulders with the rich and famous.
      Until I found OB

      OzBargain has ruined my life.

Based on this experience, how would you describe OzBargain in three words?

    • +1

This is me. Before the week began I didn't need a mobile phone.
Now at the end of the week I have TCL Plex (courtesy of JB and OzB) on it's way to me.
Here I am scratching my head thinking I got a bargain…

    • +2

      Actually, true OzBargainers have
      - more free Steam / Epic games in their library than time to play them
      - more free Udemy courses than they have time learning
      - more free Apps on their phones than they can ever use
      - more free Amazon ebooks than time reading them
      - have more than 1 AMEX card ready to use during the annual AMEX shop small campaign
      - signed up to most sites, if not all, for free birthday meals

    Ozbargainer:
That person wandering around the store with their phone out, looking for that product.

Spotted a few at bunnings this evening trying to find that darn paper towel.

    • +1

I saw a person in JB Hi-Fi browsing ozbargain on a Galaxy Fold a few months ago…did not compute.

      • +13

Why not? Owning a $3,000 mobile phone doesn't preclude you from wanting to get good prices on items. That's probably how they wound up with one in the first place. Getting a bargain doesn't just mean being cheap.

For me, an Ozbargainer is literally anyone that has an account and uses this site. No qualifiers required.

        • +7

wonder how their valentines day will go…

        • +5

According to one of them, the cheapest option was a $2 go-bucket + 3 wings + free chips and drinks. Don't know about his SO , but 5 wicked wings , a drink and what amounts to a large chips for $5.95? That man is my hero :)

Impulse purchasing because something is cheap does not make you an OzBargainer. Rather a money waster.

    • My impulse purchase on the Bunning's DJI Mavic deal made me $1000 quick cash

    OzBargainer;

“I was caught speeding, on my phone, in a school parking zone and was hit by a bus as I pulled in front of it while I was trying to park in a clear zone. The fine is $23,854 and 47 demerit points. How do I get out of these fines so I can buy a new $80,000 investment vehicle.”

    Or

“I have $12,000 to buy my first car. What Audi/VW should I get. Not interested in Corolla or Camry”… 3 weeks later… “Bought an Audi and now the ABS light and engine light won’t go out. How do I sue the previous owner?”

, taking into account the opportunity cost of their time.

            @spackbace: A merchants definition

“ Scam website don't deals don't work! Ozbargain website posts deals without your permission! They will steal your codes from your website! Merchants beware!

They stole my coupons from my subscription service and used it on their website without my permission!“

            And

            “ professionals”

          • @spackbace: Every single neg comment on Product Review for this site would be from the same type of person. Frail, soft, snowflake types that are not used to hearing “no” or “not good enough”. The foot stamping, lung emptying Karen’s of this world.

I love reading the neg comments on there. Because while ever they are over there, crying about their self inflicted exile, they aren’t here making idiots of themselves.

          • @spackbace: Like Plush!

      • From one of the reviews "… That's why its full of … fascists because they are encouraged to post. Its a business being paid to put forward far right thinking into the Australian community, and its reflects our current pathetic clime" sounds like someone got their feelings well and truly hurt after people dared to disagree with them on an online forum.

What the heck was this person smoking when they wrote that drivel?

    • Henry isn't very smart with that review. Amazon are taking the hit on shipping.

    • Alot of B-hurt snowflakes on these links. We all should so something about that rating though. Been using OzB for a few years and saved a lot of money on things I needed.

    • " dishonest, racist, full of political censorship"

An OzBargainer is that woman in front of me at the Post Office queue who wasted 10 minutes of my time trying to convince the staff to sell her a Seagate 1TB HDD for $10 using a screenshot on her phone (from Ozbargain) as evidence of the price.

    • -1

      There are women here?

  • +1

I'd say bargain hunters who have lots of time(where and how they find this we'll never know unless you ask them) on hand to find the lowest cost of their wants, irrespective of the law. That's why we have lots of posts about people trying to get out of fines, looking for deals for a want that's less than the market price(whether that be stolen, grey or not), flipping items - effectively receiving negative cost if it sells, and arguing with each other for which is the better. These ozbargainers are also judgemental(jealous even), especially when they later find out that other person is richer than them and start to condescend (or use similar methods) them.

And yet I wouldn't call myself an ozbargainer. I can't remember the last time I was on the deal section of ozbargain or posted a deal, for that matter.

Edit: Last time I've posted a deal was in 2015 😳

Well, 1 of you were ;)

          • @spackbace: It was the missus. I've also found about the KFC $2 go-bucket through her.

  • An OzBargainer is an individual who maximises value for money for the products and services procured.

  • OzBargainer: An individual who has yet to hand in their OzBargain licence.

  • +2

Mostly a bunch of self righteous sheep who don't really know their arse from their elbows and piss up cash to grab the next 'bargain'. On the flipside a good 'handful' with smarts, discretionary spending power and life experience who use Ozbargain to accumulate additional wealth. OzBargain relies on the former to rake in the profits so it's a key ingredient of its longevity.
