How Would You Define an "OzBargainer"?

Grinds my gears when I read people commenting "hand in your OzBargain license" etc when people suggesting spending a small amount more for convenience etc. I don't believe this site is really made up of members who count every cent, and eat $0.50 ramen for every meal!

Members here buy expensive cars, phones, PC gear etc. Other members live off $0.50 ramen and cheap Domino's! Everyone saves where they can, however.

So, I was thinking and I would define it as:

OzBargainer:
An individual who saves money on the items they need, to spend money on the items they want, all while ensuring they spend the lowest amount at the time

Anyone else have their own definition?

    • No!… You posted this on the wrong site. You’re supposed to post this over at Product Review. Don’t forget to mention the “trolls” the “racists” and the “dictator overlords”

True ozbargainers have posted more deals than downvoting comments in the forum.

The rest (including me) are online window shoppers.

    • Upvote for online window shopper. I fall into this category. It's annoying because your waiting for that super deal and when it comes it's sold out in the first five minutes

  • It's become a whole lot more than that. it's a hub of all sorts. not just bargains and savings, but helpful financial, legal and life advice……..

    • Also dates, I've been on plenty of dates from this website. It really does have it all.

      • plenty of dates

        Medjool dates? :)

  • Just here for fun. Used to be a bit obsessed but now I get a kick out of the occasional discount stack for super-cheap 80% off things I don't need.

  • Using discounted gift cards to pay for everything, rather than a credit card like a normal person (unless to meet those minimum spends, for Amex cashback or with HSBC 2% cashback).
Counting every cent we could’ve saved if we forget the above.
My husband is so sick of it, but the Ozbargainer in me have to keep carry on.

Don't you use the credit card to buy the gift cards?

  • I've always thought there were different levels or classes of Oz Bargainers.
Such as 1. Ones looking for the best deals for things they need or want. 2. Ones looking to buy things that they don't want but see it as a nice deal. 3. Those that just like hoarding everything and anything. 4. Those that just want things stupidly cheap.

  • Buying stuff don't need, or will ever need.

I swear, ever since I joined OzBargain my mentality has changed. I am always on the lookout for buying things that I have no need for.

OzBargainer: Likes buying stuff, hates paying full price.

  • I think its as simple as getting the best possible deal on things you want to buy or are interested in buying. Nothing more annoying than finding something cheaper after you've bought it and being on here makes that an unusual occurrence these days.

That and lecturing prople about safe driving, paying fines etc.

    • buys eneloops
    • never forgets cashback, or a 5% gift card discount
    • bikies are always the solution
    • thinks high yield investment vehicles are the only reasonable investment
    • uses a public outdoor BBQ and an extension cable to save money
    • uses MS Paint diagrams for every situation
    • doesn't have insurance
    • complains about eBay's best friend "Jack"
    • brags about salary via questionable "what's a normal salary" forum posts
    • if it isn't multiple code and cashback stacking via more than 2 or 3 websites, it isn't a bargain
  • Anyone who visits this website frequently.

  • Someone who gets an endorphin rush from the act of buying something at a good price, irrespective of whether they want or need it.

  • A person who gets caught up in the Ben & Jerry promotional visa gift card saga & after sending countless emails reports the company to the ACCC over a $14 giftcard

    • If we hadn't done this, they would have gotten away with it.
      Please be thankful!

      • The irony is, you have people earning over 150k chasing $14 gift cards as though their lives depend on it.

  • A Worshipper of the church of Bargainology.

  • i come here for the ridiculous questions

  • One who purchases eneloops on sale while already owning spare eneloops.

  • Posters who sit on their moral high horses

  • Someone who has worn out or broken their F5 key on a Razer mechanical keyboard that they didn’t need while looking at their collection of 10 sets of expensive headphones that they also didn’t need.
Someone who has a seperate parcel locker because their Mrs refuses to accept anymore home deliveries.

  • Ive been on this site for a few years now, and as income increases, so does lifestyle, however i still try to save as much as i can. Were not all minimum wage uni students living off migoren, well, not anymore!

  • As a store rep…

    There are 3 types

commenters/voters who never buy, all they do is sit on the sideline and whinge about - about 5% of OZBers who are often the loudest
    - why prices are not low enough
    - how a new model is coming out in a few years
    - how their significant other wont allow it
    - customer service is bad because they did not get treated like royalty for spending 10c

    Buyers/voters who hardly comment - about 90%
    - pleasure to deal with
    - not demanding like the above group
    - constructive feedback on how to better business
    - usually PM for deals

hybrid of the above 2 groups - the remaining 5%

  • Just like YouTube, most people come here for the community AND to find a deal here and there.

Someone who's resistance training their hoarding disorders xD
(Actually a good idea for a feature, to receive a different badge on this site, if the person was able to exercise self-control. Deals viewed/clicked/participated.)
