They can do better. Like 2696, that was via TGG.. JB owns the good guys, wish retailers wld come with realistic prices.

    • I believe there was a rebate offer to retailers from LG allowing that price, which is no longer available

      • There was a rebate offer for Black Friday. Fact.

      • It was a price error. They meant to include a different TV

  • B9 is also priced the same…weird

    Waiting Sub $2.5k

  • Hmmm…the C9, or hold off for the CX to hit $3k late this year, for the extras like Dolby Vision IQ, Gen 3 AI processor, Filmmaker mode, FreeSync, Black Frame Insertion at 120hz etc???

    • +2

I think you answered your question :)

      • +1

Lol yeah - think I just needed to write it down then have someone tell me that ;)

    • +10

All this time i thought you were talking about Mazda..

Film Maker mode from everything I have read and understood, is just turning of All motion interpolation, contrast and colour boosting features. I would strongly suggest using ISF Dark (or professional) / True Cinema / Cinema modes on your TV while watching movies, which will have the motion processing, colour processing & dynamic contrast features turned off anyway.
Dolby Vision IQ is effectively Dolby Vision + Ambient Light sensor. Im not sure if this is purely a TV implementation or if the content needs to be mastered for Vision IQ. Nevertheless, this would only work with Dolby Vision content. I believe LG C9 has Dolby Vision Dark and Dolby Vision Bright profiles (Vision IQ should be a transition between these 2 modes based on the Ambient Light).
Black Frame Insertion is pretty much unusable in any of the current gen OLEDS. (I have a panny GZ1000U). A few of the presenters on CES floor did say BFI would be better on newer oleds. My personal preference is to not use it (I never liked it on my Sony X930E or my Panasonic ST30 Plasma either), I find loss of brightness to be a big downer.
FreeSync / VRR on HDMI 2.1 is a good feature to have though.

Apart from that, there is no difference in Panel, so expect the panel brightness to be similar. Im not sure the Gen3 Alpha processor brings anything new to the table either (maybe more accurate colours and better HDR tone mapping? ). So unless VRR/freesync is important to you, I would suggest saving up some money and buy something nice for the Mrs. You will have much better television experience ;)

      • Good post - cheers mate ;)

      • BFI does drop the brightness down (I have a X930E too) there are two settings though. Sometimes it works well for motion in movies that need it, other times it makes hardly any difference. At least with the X930E it's so bright you can take a hit with the brightness and still get a great picture. With OLED you would be suffering a lot more as it's about half the nits of the Sony.

        • I have noticed BFI helps in panning shots.
On LCD televisions (and plasmas) the relatively slow switching times of the tv adds a bit of natural motion blur. I suspect it has got to do with the small delay introduced by phosphor layer(which x930 and plasmas use). So BFI works well (apart from loss of brightness).
The biggest difference is OLEDs switching times are really quick. The BFI on 2019 panels introduce a visible flicker. I suspect it’s due to really fast switching times. That’s why 120hz BFI could get better since the duration of black frames could be spread out more.
But these days lm used to “cinematic effect”', so it doesn’t bother me as much.

@a b i: Sony 9 series use quantum dot not phosphorus. Even though it's not stated directly by them. They use a filter over it to make it more colour accurate. Unlike the Samsungs which is raw that's why you see such saturated, overbearing colours. For Sony's lower tier models they use phosphorus. Sony introduced quantum dots to TV's back in 2013, way before Samsung copied them. OLEDs have near instant pixel response time, where the better LEDs have around 10ms (which helps with lower framerate - especially movies 24fps) as it needs a slight delay otherwise you'll see it judder during panning and slow motion scenes.

            • @Whisper Quiet: Sorry I got mixed up about the Phosphor coating. You are absolutely right, Triluminos displays do not use them.
Regarding OLEDS, that's what I meant. Their fast transition times times makes BFI very difficult. I guess that's why this years panels will have 120Hz BFI, which is probably a bit better.

      Beware, No one cares!

    • +6

Beware, you're not Made in Japan.

      • came to check if he/she was born in Japan?

    • +10

Though many people would disagree, I agree with dreamscene that Japanese electronics are superior

    • +4

All OLED panels are made by LG in a single factory somewhere in South Korea. Doesn't matter if you get a Sony, LG, HiSense or Panasonic.

      • -6

        Panasonic, Made in Japan.

        • +2

Nope. Made in Malaysia. I have a Panasonic GZ-1000U and I doubled checked on the Box. The OLED panel Panasonic uses is from LG.
Even the ST30 Plasma TV I used to own was Made in Malaysia. Though the Plasma Panel itself was made in Japan.

        • +1

No. Only some were made in japan like some of their high end plasma's. Get your facts right

        • +3

Not the panels. LG provides the panels.

    • +1

      Are you made in Japan?

  • If only I could fit a 65 in my apartment.. couch is close to TV location so 55 is the most I can fit I think. Really keen to upgrade a Sony 40EX720 from 2011. It's only a 40 😒

    • +1

How close is close? Less than 2m? At that distance the 55 would do nicely and it'll be kinder on the wallet

      There's the c9 55" @1950 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/518349

      • Thanks. Much nicer on wallet. I'm 2-2.5m away from TV (couch is on an angle)

    Enjoying my 77" OLED C8 bought for $3999 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/507540#comment-8150944

Great TV, C9 should be a better!

    • Wow nice and you still get full factory warranty and acl afterwards

    • Such a lucky find! Have been waiting for so long for a good priced 77" OLED!

      • Yes, I have been waiting as well, looking to hit the purchase on this along with the LG SLY10YG Soundbar as well but from TGG's as JB don't seem to sell the 77inch for some reason. Don't think either have been lower, and waiting further may eventuate in missing out.

May as well enjoy it now, then just waiting for for greater deals that my just not happen. Mmmmmm…..decisions decisions.

        • Yeah I bourght the Panasonic 55" OLED about 9 months ago. I dont particually want to commit to the 65", even though it would be worth it. Hopefully we eventually get a 77" for sale around 4000-5000

The reason that I'm holding out for LG CX is because C9's implementation of VRR + HDR on Xbox One X did not work for 3 whole months until it got updated by LG."Google it"

What if PS5 or Xbox seriesX VRR + HDR implementation ends up not working correctly on the c9 is LG really going to update a patch for a TV thats 1.5 years old? It seems unlikely knowing how LG does not support major software updates for that long.

    • It's a gamble for sure

      • Not a gamble I'm willing to take.

        • Well is a gamble either way right? Might be much more expensive work cx

I wanted to buy this TV at boxing day sale thought price will go down more than black friday sale but never did. Since then watching the price. • It did after black Friday. That's when I bought it for $2696, or $2562 with gift cards.

  • Good for people in Tassie, as the ebay deals do not ship here

How does this compare to the B8? Is the jump in quality significant?

      • Seems like there are minimal differences. I was just curious because I bought the B8 for 2.7K a year ago and have been enjoying it very much. I guess I'll wait for the day 75 inch OLEDs are more affordable :)

        • Mainly HDMI 2.1 and the processor is better.

  • I have a B7 and would be very curious to know the difference and if it is even worth waiting for CX, really just for hdmi 2.1.

    • +2

      Side by side comparison below

      https://www.rtings.com/tv/tools/compare/lg-c9-vs-lg-b7a/802/…

The c9 comes with eArc and HDMI 2.1 - I was thinking about waiting for the CX as well but TGG Deal was really good.. $2825 DELIVERED! The CX will probably be 4k - 4.5k when it comes out!

      • Exactly. Don't know why people on here keep saying that the C9 doesn't come with HDMI 2.1, ALM, VRR, FreeSync and GSYNC when in fact it supports all of those features. You'd have to wait a good six months after the CX comes out to get it for the sub$3K the C9 is currently going on sale for.

  • I hate Hardley Normal but it's listed for $2970 + has bonus $150 Digital Fuel Mastercard.
