Milk Gone up 25%

Coles/Woolie UHT 1L Longlife milks are now $1.25

Inflation ? 25c gets passed onto farmers ? or Coles/Woolie pocketed all ?

Comments

  • If it was going to get passed on you would have heard about it. You'll find they have held the $1 price for too long so the jump is a significant % but when was the last rise?

    • -2

So this guy automatically assumes business is doing the right thing to the point of making up a scenario where they are.

      Brainwashed.

      • +1

And you automatically assume the worst. Brainwashed. How about putting in the effort to actually find out instead of arguing about something you don't know?

        • +1

Read up on the Coles 10c drought levy thingy.

          There are reasons we're "brainwashed".

      • +3

They're setting prices for something they're selling. There isn't a moral element to this at all.

Feel free to buy it and resell to people at a price you think is morally right.

If it was getting passed onto the farmers, I guarantee they would be running expensive ads on FTA with a fake employee and fake farmer gleefully smiling and saying how they love farmers and farming and farm stuff and farmers work hard and Colesworth supports all farmers who farm so they've raised the prices to support the farmers who farm so please buy from Colesworth who support farmers.

    • +4

Animation of a smiling cow usually helps sell the narrative too

    • +1

      This!

Also add babies and or kids too. Little kids pouring some fresh and healthy protein rich milk in to their bowl of cereal.

Yeah I noticed this last weekend when I went to buy the $1/L. It is now the same price as fresh drought milk, so back to that we go.

  • +9

An ozbargainer would drink 25% less. Will end up ahead.

    $1 / L

    Drink $0.25 (0.25L) less.

    $0.75 rises 25%, $0.9375c.

    6% saving.

    • +2

      i love your calculation x

  • They took the money and promptly forgot about farmers https://www.abc.net.au/radio/programs/worldtoday/coles-to-pay-farmers-$5m-over-milk-levy/11769328

The price of milk was absurdly cheap before and even now.
Soft drinks and bottled water typically cost more and they don't come from a living animal.
People happily pay $4.50 for a coke or bottled water and complain about the price of milk.

    • +3

You need to hand back your Ozbargain membership.

You know never to buy anything less than 40% discount, can get 1.1L of Schweppes Lemon & Lime (etc) for $1 on special at Woolies this week. Aldi 1.5L of (questionable) mineral water $0.59. If you buy 3 it is even cheaper when ending in 7c it gets rounded down by 2c.

      • Not talking about me, I don't drink soft drink at all.
Just talking about the general attitude the exists.

    • +2

Well, the price of petrol is absurdly cheap before and even now, given they have to drill, extract, ship, process crude oil to make petrol for your car.

Do you want to pay $4 per litre for the petrol?

      • -1

these type of champagne socialists usually do…

"Why everyone that can afford a car can surely afford another $4" :D

    • +3

Absurdly cheap so that justifies raising the price . Just like everything else in this country just because it's cheap someone has to increase their profit margin at the expense of the battlers.
Housing use to be cheap once .

Sometimes the milk in my fridge goes down by 25% overnight

    • +3

Went pasteurise before you saw it?

  • they stole the money that was collected fo the farmers now they would have the audacity to raise the price so we the customers will have to pay back the stolen money again for the farmers,I have no problem with the levi as long as it is going ro the farmers I believe it should be a bit higher plus the interest that stolen money has generated for the stores should also be paid to the the Australian Farmers,
Have you consumers noticed WoolWorths for example how much they have been increasing their prices of most edible items the worst being the price of most types of Australian and New Zealand fish, keep your open and watch those prices as they escalate towards March when the cpi comes in for the pension increase.tata

    Has OP been asleep?

Home 2L brand milks went from $2.00 to $2.39 some time ago
    Thats a fat 20% increase
    Same with 1L and 3L

    Then you have the cheese
Aldi cheese has gone from $6.00 to $7.50
    Thats a 25% increase
    Same with Woollies and Coles.

Many yoghurts too have increased in price.

Now finally long life milk has caught up.

Seems like all dairy products are going up 20% to 25%

Petrol up from around $1.25 to $1.73

Home brand soft drinks up from 75c to 90c thanbsk to the bottle return levy. Another 20% imcrease

A case of beer that cost $29.95 is now $33.00
    Another 10% increase

The list goes on and on.

    The big question really is….

Why arent these huge price increases reflected in the CPI which is still currently around 2%.

ANSWER: Because its a global scam to misrepresent inflation as being very low so governments can claim to look good and the central banks can have an excuse to lower interest rates so governments dont go bust in thier pile of debt. Meanwhile property is pushed up so the banks are in for the ride to lend us a heap more and keep us hooked on debt for the rest of our lives.
Meanwhile independent sources are quoting REAL inflation much closer to 10%…..
Which means interest rates should be going UP!

    Now back to OP
The answer is that the government ends up with it via higher tax collections. Thats why governments love inflation! Well known fact.

  • Merged from UHT Milk Prices Now $1.25 per Litre!!!

This applies to both coles and woolworths.

When did prices go up? I was enjoying my $1 per litre milk prices while I was laughing at noobs who bought fresh milk @ $1.20 per litre.

    Very sad day :(

      Don't have a Cow?

    • +3

Look at the bright side. You can start drinking fresh milk again.

    • How much is Aldi UHT?

      • +2

$1.90 for 2L. And they finally have the 1 step opening seal. No more ripping the tag off the foil for this little black duck.

    • +1

      Thats it!!!

      It's a Govt conspiracy. Lab/Lib/Green - where's Pauline?

And its interesting that Jacinta was just here. NZ cow due to invade?

Or is because the Chinese bought a dairy?

I'm going Vegan, better still drinking water out of the tap that'll fix em.

They are just opporunitists taking advantage of the coming pandemic.

BTW Just getting in first 😀

      • What a fool. You're a slave to big water!

    • Not surprising given the drought, bushfires etc. the only thing I use UHT for is making Yogurt, you don’t need to go through the tedious sterilisation process.

    • +1

Powdered milk is still $5.70 at Colesworths. You can consider that as an alternative.

      • +1

        Have to buy water. Pass.

        • Bear Grylls never bought water.

      • How many litres of milk is that?

    • +4

It went up 25c overnight to $1.25 a litre 3 weeks ago around here in Colesworth, Aldi, and IGA.

No collusion between supermarkets of course /s

      • +2

I have some Woolworths 1L UHT bought in December 2019, Exp Date of 08/20.
        Profit. lol

    • I am glad it wasn’t just me that noticed the price rise I have tried using the powdered milk but it didn’t seem to taste the same as the the one that was already made up.

    • I used to drink that crap for years when it was 1/2 the price of fresh milk. Since milk came down to $1 i never looked back.

You must like punishment as for 20c per lt difference its a no brainer.

      • +1

I actually find the full cream version more "creamy" than homebrand fresh milk.

  • firstly woolies and coles with their great consideration raised the price of their own brand by 10c p/l and that was to go to the farmers, the problem was that the stores secretly only paid a portion of the 10c p/l to the farmers and kept the rest themselves, they got sprung and now have to pay the amount that they stole back to the farmers,so they have increased the price over and above the original 10c p/l so we the customers are paying back the amount they stole and have also increased the price again, the big question is how much of the second increase will be going to the farmers now or are both the stores now using a ploy to further increase their profit by stealth of the "10c p/l stolen money" affair, keep watching for further chapters to this story, also expect a lot more increases of everything as the Pensioners cpi increases come into play on the 20th March and they being such caring people have to make a grab to get their portion of that small amount (which means ALL of the increase)to increase their profits once again.
