  • This or S20?

    • +8

S20 (especially if you've got a price protection payment method)

      • Could you please expand on this?

        • +11

I should've mentioned that it also depends on your budget…

Samsung: S20+ $1199.20 ($293.40 difference), S20 $1079.20 ($193.40), if you have an edu.au address or work at any of the mentioned workplaces (via Samsung Enhanced Partnership Portal)
Or if you don't, then $1153.45 for S20 128GB (via this Pre-Order deal), so $247.65 difference

but yea, agree with 5G comment mentioned below although that'll bump it into a different price bracket (and hence a Price Protection payment method, and looks like currently only the 28Degrees Credit Card offer that, so can claim price difference when it drops in price within 12 month period).

A comparison of spec: only all the 4G versions

          • Likely longer OS support for Samsung, being newer device
          • Personal preference: prefer Samsung's system implementation over Huawei's (not just the UI, but actual system e.g. when you go into system settings etc. While both Samsung and Huawei try to get you to sign-up an account with them, Huawei's implementation doesn't feel as polished, even though I rather not sign-up to both)
          • Personal preference: Samsung's S20's waterfall/curved edge display is at a less distracting angle now, so better than Huawei (I prefer a flat display if possible tbh)
          • S20 much better display, both colours and refresh rate
          • S20 Better performing chipset
          • S20 Faster/Better storage standard, UFS 3.0
          • On paper, S20 will have better camera, but pending review (although so far still promising considering currently available samples)
          • With the ongoing US-China Trade fiasco, P30 Pro is on an extended life due to it being the highest end Huawei phone can sell with Google Mobiles Services (GMS). But once the fiasco ends, Huawei will likely have better and newer phones onto the GMS and the P30 Pro will further drop in value.

Yes S20 more expensive, but for best case scenario only <$200 difference. Hence if one has the budget and a price protection credit card then it is quite possibly to be worth it.

          • +1

@zrmx: The S20 in its Base model will have a worse performing camera.

            • @superroach: mmm, maybe the Telephoto lens might be better than the S20, if that's what the user prefer, then sure go for the P30 Pro.

In terms of the main camera, I personally find P30 Pro on par with S10. Having said all, I only use the camera very casually for casual photo purposes. So they are all sufficient for my usage really.

For me it is a subjective area, so get the one that suits each person's own needs.

          • @zrmx: 50x zoom ?

      • +2

P30 Pro has TOF sensor and should be compared with S20+

However, if you get S20 5G, its a better long term investment esp when 5G becomes cheaper (or free) in the future…

        • +4

          (or free)

          tELCO HYPE MUCH.

          • @Diji1: Meaning?

            • @meong: It should have been"free" from the beginning for every one. There's no additional cost beyond what they HAVE TO invest. Wider and earlier access to 5G actually give consumers more reason to stay with them.
By limiting access they lose money overall (but not much), so it is essentially just marketing.

              • @dotJaz: I completely agree hence I was leaning towards the 5G options cause sooner or later the competition will force Telcos to offer same pricing as 4G

  • +2

Well, if budget is not a problem. S20, although In au their in-house cpu is not as good as the Snapdragon. It should still beat the huawei's. Plus those new fancy features.

  • Original common price?

    • $1,598.00 on April 19th, 2019.

  • Despite of all the good features (including 120 Hz which not many people talk about) - Samsung couldn't put a decent optical zoom in S20.
Will wait for some comparison videos but for pictures P30 pro might be better. For videos absolutely S10 / S20 is better than P30 pro.

  • Is the phone dual sim version or single sim Vodafone version?

    • -5

I think official P30 Pro in Australia is Single SIM… Unlike the P20 Pro where it comes with dual sim on the Australian version. CMIIW.

S20 has eSim + nano Sim… So it is dual Sim esp if you are with the major telcos which have no issues in converting your sim to esim.

      • +4

I goty p30pro from jbhifi and it's dual sim

        • +1

          thanks for the info!

      • +1

Official telco p30 pro is dual sim. Source, have one.

    • +1

      VOG-L29 : Dual SIM
      VOG-L09 : Single SIM

      This lists model as "VOG-L29 / VOG-L09"

So who knows? How can they write 2 different models as the model… =/

How does this compare the the mate 20 pro?

I love my mate 20 and the wife loves it too. Want to get one for her but I'm finding it hard to find au stock at the price I got it in Dec too (JB $700)

    • +1

It's pretty much the same. Normal user can't tell the difference.

Really up to you mate. I'm on my m20p

I heard they are re-openning factories even when the virus is still around. Life is cheap

I am buying this instead of iphone just to support Huawei. Hope they can continue to bring out more competitive and innovative phones.

      • Apples entire supply chain is in China. You are supporting Chinese jobs either way. Huawei's 5G is world class, it improves the human condition.

          • @Griffindinho: Too bad you got negged. Their comment is, even at a glance, just pure garbage and makes no logical sense.

        • +5

Apples entire supply chain is in China

This is categorically false, and just a plain lie.

Huawei's 5G is world class, it improves the human condition

What? Huawei's 5G? Since when did 5G belong to Huawei? 5G is a standard that is not defined by Huawei.

Also, what is "improves the human condition" supposed to mean. What are you even trying to say by "improves the human condition". How does "Huawei's 5G" relate to that at all? It's an inconsequential statement that has no relevance at all. A bucket of water also "improves the human condition".

You are a great example of what a wu mao comment looks like.

        • China get $8.46 per iphone made.

    • +3

so what's wrong with CCP? Did they invade Australia?

      • +2

Bunch of Chinese Nazis that's what they are

        • +1

typical brain washed idiot knowing nothing but propaganda. Never know how to think independently and understand this world by yourself.

  • Is TRS claimable?

    • Australian business with Australian stock, don't see why not assuming they provide a tax invoice.

    • how does this work? Can i buy one, use it hear for 4 weeks then claim the tax on it when I leave the country for my two week holiday to the UK? or is it for permanent moves only??

      • -2

As long as its in the box

        • do they check you for it on the way back?

        • @saucekey
          No need.

  • Niceeeeeeeeeeeee.

  • I still think this is the best looking phone of the last 18 months

  • Sweet! The Huawei P20 5G is also a noteworthy contender. Just because it is hard to get does not mean it is bad.

  • -2

    Can JB HIFI price match?

  • +1

I think price will drop furhter when P40 releases, isnt it? confused if i should wait for a month or not.

    • +2

Wait until the p100 then this will be $200

      • Do you think you're really funny? well i just said P40 is a month away.

        • +2

          His username checks out ;)

          • @hopper: No Google apps on the P40, if that's important to you.

            • @madreece: No i was wondering if P30 pro would drop to 750? after the release

              • +2

@Sirajs: I doubt as P20 pro is still something 600-650. Plus, p40 may not even officially sold in Aus market due to Google service issue. So I guess p30 pro will continue sold as the top model here in Aus for a while.

  • thx, got one for my missus as birthday gift. Best phone u can get for this price range.

  • This or S10 plus

  • In what department will this wipe the floor on the S10? Would I be right in saying camera and battery life? Anything else?

  • +1

Is the Galaxy Note 10 worth the extra $100?
    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/samsung-galaxy-note10-256…

      Absolutely, don't support China communists

    • Only you can answer that question.
