Working from a Computer

Hey guys, how is everyone doing today?
So I've got a big question and hopefully someone will be able to help.
I'm going to be travelling for the next 6 to 9 months and will have alot of time free. I was hoping to pick up a job where I can work remotely as I don't want to spend all of my savings. If it's possible, I'll be traveling longer but that depends if I can manage to get a job online.
In Australia I'm a pastry chef but I don't see myself being able to make money with that as I don't want to get stuck in 1 kitchen for the whole travel period. Any other ideas?

Thanks!

Unless you have relevant and desirable skills to make you a candidate for remote working, I don't like your chances at all.

If you are simply a body to perform a generic function, that role will be sent offshore as it is far more economical to the employer.

Plenty of online work to be found on Fiverr.com / Upwork.com … Try that ..Good luck

    • darn come to say fiver, but you got in first, so I'll second it.

    • Don't confuse an income stream with a job. Yes you can earn money via those sites, but it isn't a job and by no stretch a reliable income.

  • How much passive income do you have at the moment?

Maybe the youtube thing might work if you can get some momentum. It won't be much but if you can get a few thousand a year, along with your other passive income, it might be enough for you to enjoy some time off and reinvent yourself.

You'll still need to rent a kitchen and I'll assume you have some type of DSLR or other camera; since you are going to travel a lot and to probably document it?

  • online poker?

without any particular skills or time spent building something to generate income without your physical presence, you'll be doing a bunch of crap on upwork or something for pennies.
it can be fun though, enjoy it. there'll be some weird stuff. in a similar phase i cleaned up some badly google translated japanese romance game script, which itself was an atrocious story about some girl going back in time and falling in love with mozart or some other classical musician. absolute garbage, poorly written. it was a miserable couple of days that paid about $5/hr but im not getting that level of wtf in my regular job so not too bad

  • Merged from Stuck overseas, looking to make $100 a week

    Hey everyone,

I'm currently stuck overseas and cant get back into Australia at the moment because of all of the Covid-19 restrictions. I am looking for ways or a job where I can work from my computer (like a telephone operator) to earn some money to survive while overseas.
I have done my budgets and if I can earn just $100 a week, that will be enough for me to pay my rent and food.
Does anyone have an idea on how I could go about earning that money or know anyone with a job to offer to help me out?
In Australia I am a pastry chef but in the country I'm currently stuck in I don't have a working visa so I can not work here. Pastry chef is also a job that I can not do online haha.

    Thanks in advance!

These are all violations of non-working Visas. I’ve watched episodes of Border Security, in one of them, a man would drive a van to transport people to a farm occasionally for his sister when she got busy. She would give him a bit of money as a thanks. She had all relevant docs for her business, all their workers had working Visas but the man didn’t and he was deported as it violated his Visa conditions. Surely they’ve eased this slightly over Covid though

Well worst case scenario you get deported to Australia - I call that winning!

Anyway that scenario is a bit different as he was working for a business, with lots of people that knew he was there. Babysitting etc you just talk to a family.

@Quantumcat: They even said on the episode that accepting money for washing a neighbour’s car is considered work, it was silly

OP should just do some illegal work lol, the worst case scenario is OP’s best scenario

Can you give us an idea of where you're stuck? As close as possible.

Have you approached the Australian Embassy and requested assistance/advice?

If caught working, while you may not be immediately deported, you may end up in jail.

The good side of that is you won't need to earn $100 a week to survive. Bubba will look after you for free.

I stayed at YHA's and there was a Jobs Board, so if you are travelling around check that out if you stay there.

  • I reckon you could come close to $100 a week if you signed up for every survey site going and did surveys as your full-time job.
