Couldn't get into this game. Lacks any sort of polish and user friendlyness. Awesome waifu's though.

      Had me at waifu's

As with any developed MMORPG it's complex and deep systems are difficult for a casual to understand let alone play. It's definitely a grindfest and without the paid packs and buffs it's even worse starting out. The economy also favors end game users in terms of the top end market but also makes general goods somewhat cheaper. It's graphics were spectacular and are still stunning but other games are catching up. Combat is always fun and character models are EXTREMELY pleasing to the eyes.

As with all games the recommended specs are horse _. You'd need a 1080 or newer equivalent to play on the best settings at 1080p let alone 1440 or 4k. If you run this game at lower graphic settings essentially you take away nearly everything that makes it stand out in the first place.

        • My 970 runs it on max very well, or did 6 months ago.

          • @Wickzki49: Yeah not sure how valid this is as my 1070ti is struggling. What fps is 'very well'?

        • +1

So it's a game made to be shit unless you constantly pay money to "fix" it.

          Predatory garbage.

  • +6

Being in Australia really diminished the value of this game, just like 9 swords. It's a pvp centric game.

    • +3

I hear that. I was gutted when ESO didn't have Aus servers. Very hard to play with that sort of ping.

    • Is there no build that is delay tolerant?

      • +2

Oh for sure. It's a SEA server, so as long as you don't play Tamer (most fun class), you will be fine to enjoy the game. You'll do 1v1 just fine in most classes too.

It's just that once you do large scale pvp, which is basically everything you'll do once you get close to soft cap, and basically you main reason you play this game cause pve is lacking, you're gonna feel pretty useless when you keep constantly unable to react to stray hits and aoe.

        • Oh its on the SEA server? if sea me wei 3 isnt down and I get the best route, my latency is 60-70ms from perth.

          • @philmarcracken: What ISP still only uses SEA-ME-WE 3 for Singapore?

Any ISP worth their salt would be using Indigo West and/or ASC nowadays.

            • @Nousernamehere: Oh theres more? I dont think it matters much. When I say they go down, they are mysteriously cut inside indoneasian waters and the repair ship needs to pay a 'fee' to enter. They will cut all of them.

              • @philmarcracken: It’s also now 20 years old, but yeah it has been cut more times than you’d expect it to be. Just could be bad luck/bad planning for location/insufficient protection being a 20 year old cable/1000 other reasons.

There are now other cables available so if one of them ever does go down it will no longer have the impact that SEA-ME-WE 3 going down did as there’s redundancy now. Any ISP that’s only using SEA-ME-WE 3 should be avoided.

Being in Australia really cut me off from multiplayer gaming, be it due to a lack of local servers or crappy local networks resulting in terrible ping, or a severe lack of local players when it comes to more obscure games. I'd at least play some local multiplayer but I live in the middle of nowhere and have no friends QQ

Look for some discord server for it! There's usually an aussie community in every game just because of these difficulties. Even very niche indies like Rivals of Aether and Unist have active Aussie player bases.

And in every mmo I've ever played, I always look for an aussie guild so that we can avoid 3am raids. I did that when I was younger, never again.

        • Thanks, I'll look for something like this if I ever decide to get my ass handed to me!

Australia is one of the worst places you can live if you want to multiplay. One of the best places, though, for single player gaming since high salaries and high welfare payments give people the disposible income to afford games and consoles/desktop PCs.

        • since high salaries

Australia median income 2017: $44,000 and dropping as it has been for more than 30 years. The media actively attempts to decieve Australians by reporting the average income of $77,000.

The massive difference between median and average is caused by the massive wealth inequality in Australia where 20% of the population takes most of the money.

          and high welfare payments

Unemployment benefits have not increased in 40 years. The streets are littered with homeless people.

          • @Diji1: Didn't wanna say anything @Thaal but this. From what I've seen, most average folks hardly break even paying for rent, utilities, groceries, & transportation. The exceptions are always the ones run ragged working 6-7 days a week with lots & lots of overtime. And owners of successful businesses.

        • +1

That's the first time I've heard the dol being called a "high payment" lol

    • The game really isn't that bad to play from Sydney. It's about 140 ping and the latency is BARELY noticable. I've played ESO which has an average ping of 230-250 WITH A ROUTING VPN and it is so noticeable in combat. I'd still recommend giving BDO ago.

      • Of course, being a Sea server definitely makes it a much better experience than it would've been.

But it definitely felt devalued cause the end game is so group pvp focused, where consistent visuals needs to be much more accurate. It was the same issue with Tera too.

But this game definitely has social/slice of life aspects that makes it better than tera. Not runescape or mabinogi strong, but it's pretty good.

      • True, I play apex legends with my mates from Singapore. Even with 150ms ping I can barely feel the difference and has won several games daily. Makes me wonder, if a multiplayer BR FPS game can run so smoothly at 150ms, how bad can a third person action mmo be?

  • I thought the whole point of this game was the level of detail, eg, you can have your own house + farm, craft and these lead to buffs.

  • Since it is free, I'd give it a go then.
    Thanks OP

Don't get this game if you want something casual, you have to go hard if you want to be good and even then it's very RNG.

You'll need to leave the game open and running in the background virtually all day doing something to get somewhere in any decent amount of time.

You'll also have issues with lag which makes pvp suck, especially since it's open world pvp.

The game itself is fine if you're happy not having good gear and losing all your progress and money suddenly due to RNG destroying(lots of items blow up/downgrade when you fail an upgrade) the items you farmed for weeks/months.

It has lots to offer and can be quite fun, yet it's also soul crushingly depressing.

      That's just life in general.

      • Guess that makes it a good life simulator then…

        • I'd rather play Farm Simulator then.

Tibia had a similar mechanism. MASSIVELY hate roll back mechanics to extend game play ¬¬

      • Big reason I avoid Korean MMOs now as they're the only ones I run into that seem to feature it. Still want to try Lost Ark though.

    • This is a true comment. 100%.

I immedietly read this as Free - Black Dessert.

This is what happens when you skip lunch :(

Yumm..reminds me of Black Rice dessert / yoghurt

Avoid this garbage game, it doesn't respect you or your time. It's filled with pay to win mechanics and if you want to stay competitive well bad luck it's too late. Hundreds of quests that have zero value. There's literally nothing to do in this game except grind gear (not the type of grinding you think) and keep your computer on 24/7.

    Enjoy your electricity bill.

    AMA - i quit at 1700 hours

    • Did you spend any money?

      • +2

yes, around $200 which is probably one of the lowest of my guildies. It was in small increments so it didn't feel like much at the time…

edit: in my honest opinion, they give away enough for free that you could get much further f2p than you could when i played 2-3 years ago. But play at your own risk.

    • How good is the story? How good are PVE bosses? What's your ping to the closest server?

      • +1

story has improved but still not really up to standard. Lore is good if you care about that stuff though. PVE bosses, the main ones are these big server bosses which around once a day and have maybe 30-100 people fighting it at once for the chance to get boss gear. Fun but can turn into a chore if you treat it like one. I played NA which had decent latency in terms of MMOs ive tried, still I think the ping is around 200. You won't notice it PvE but if you go hardcore PvP then you'll notice it, but thats 1k+ hours in.

        • server raid bosses eh…. welp. 200ms seems like a bummer too, since I'm playing Ninja hahah. Thanks~

  • I just started this game, as a casual gamer looking for something interesting to do.
I've been playing on a custom server with higher drop rates and it's pretty fun. Although I enjoy grinding for skills.

  • I love this game, but couldn't imagine playing it 100% F2P, it's way too crippling.

  • +2

Good beautiful game in the earlier stages, boils down to leaving your PC on 24/7 later on, it's pretty disgusting how much it incentivises afking. Just thinking how much power this game has made the world use up for no reason is yuck. Let people turn their games off lmao. Just because Korean Devs think they can treat their PC's like their phone games.

  • I thought it said Black Dessert and was very confused by the comments.

  • woooo nice

  • weeb game xD

  • Today is the day

Thanks to the reminder feature with notification

  • Is this like Black Pudding… or am I just a bad speller? Ecky Thump… I'm outta here.

Black Desert gameplay - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sUpAiRr1cic Actually looks half decent, thanks!

  • Slightly off topic but is there any such thing as a good MMO these days that isn't WoW? GW2 stinks, they wrecked The Secret World, SWTOR is meh. It just seems like the genre is dead unless you like WoW. For reference I tried Black Desert and totally hated it.

    • Blue Protocol coming up this year … I'm expecting it to be good

    • FFXIV?

    • what happened to gw2? I played it when it first came out and it was great

  • Thanks DB
