Evaporative Cooler Damper Problem

I've had a Brivis Evap cooler for 15yrs. The Damper in the unit doesn't flip open and makes a humming sound. I put two screws to permanently have the dampers open, but the humming noise still appears. I think the motorised damper is the cause of that. Should I just remove the motorised damper and leave it permanently open? After it rained last week that occurred. Another thing i noticed is that air coming out of vents doesn't blow out as much, fan blows super quick though. If you could please thoughts on this that would be great. Thanks

  • Just disconnect power cable to the damper.

    • Yeah that's what I'm going to do, just trying to see if the ozbargain community can brainstorm any other ideas. Motorised damper going for $300 might as well remove it.

  • Call a service person

    • I'm an electrical apprentice, would like to try and diagnose the problem myself.

  • If you have had the Brivis swamp box for 15 years then it is time to replace the whole unit. Newer models and more efficient and cheaper to operate

  • Maybe not a good idea to jam the damper open. If you heat your house in winter then an open damper just lets the heat out. Get it fixed or replace the swampy.

    • Was thinking of just closing the vents inside the house. Magic haha

  • I'm not getting enough air flow when i turn the cooler on max, had a look at the unit on the roof, doesn't spin quick. Should i lubricate the fan motor?
