  • Timezone? It's 'always' EST, never WST, and given that they're in Brisbane and it mentions 11PM, well…..

Very unlikely to be the AOE timezone.

How can it be on almost everything and exclude bikes and frames? Isn't it a bike shop?

    • +1

TBF the majority of the items in their store are not bikes and frames, just the largest and most expensive.

  • Conveniently (for Pushy’s), all the items I want are sold out. It was the same during Black Friday and Boxing Day sales, but they manage to re-stock between sales - at full price.

    • Their stock policy/process is a bit weird. Ignoring sales, sometimes I click on the 'notify me when back in stock' button, and some times I've received an email the same day letting me know stock is available again, and other times it's been years and I'm still waiting….

  • sigh

    literally spent $300 yesterday

    • …oh no. last thing you needed to hear :(

      • +3

Somone should write an ozbargain browser plugin that tracks when you buy something from an online store, and then blocks ozbargains from that store for the next week or so…

    • They run this promo nearly every month, at minimum every two months. I never buy from there at full price these days. If I'm desperate I'll buy from bike bug they are always cheaper unless pushys is running this sale.

  • I tried to do business with pushy's. I have since spent thousands quite easily at chain reaction and wiggle, even evan's cycles all in the UK. No complaints with the UK based businesses with returns. With pushy's they had a long winded returns process for a $30 head light that arrived doa. After that process, I sent it back and they said it was broken by me. Quite novel because the thing couldn't hold batteries. Not good for an Australian business.

    • +5

That's quite unfortunate. I've shopped with them for years, probably purchased well over 100 items, never had an issue. I've returned a few items too with a quick and easy process.

    • Don't go anywhere near Tweeks Cycles. Warranty issue took almost 5 months to resolve and I was significantly out of pocket to send the product back.

Needed a new chain and cassette, perfect timing.

what are their bikes like? im looking at a new bike (Giant trance 2 29er). curious to hear some feedback on the rocky mountain bikes?

    • +1

Most bikes are clones of each other so itll come down to specs/price

Generally on a trance 2 type budget second hand is the way to go
But if you are a bit more specific on what you want I can give some proper bike nerd advice

      • i ride dirtbikes out bush (used to race motocross) i have just a Giant Talon to get around on which to be honest i think its great to "just get around on". wanting something so i can go up into the hills and hammer down some dirt/gravel/rocky tracks, prob wont be doing no big drops or anything(never know though i guess) but i would like something that is going to outlast my skillset, when i buy things i tend to buy a little bit better than what i actually need, no matter what im buying. i really love the look of the Giant trance 2. ummm yeah thats basicly it i guess. any help would be much appreciated mate. Cheers.

        • Look at 99bikes too. I recently made an order with them, my first, so will see how it turns out. Specs seemed better for the money than I could get at Pushy's or otherwise. They don't stock the bike I ordered in the local store, but they'll ship it in from the warehouse.

Have read some ordinary reviews about their workshop though. YMMV depending on store I think, but have a read around.

…and then there's Reid and bicycles online, where you can get some not quite brand name stuff. The Reid stuff seems to cover basic to a bit higher, and bicycles online stocks basic through advanced Polygon models. Polygon seems to provide good value specs for the money, though they didn't have what I was personally after. My son rides one of the lower level Premier models, and it had some issues when we received it - local bike mechanic fixed it at bicyclesonline's expense - so no biggy. You'd be after something a bit more serious than that I think, but they have some higher end dual suspension bikes too.

None of that helps if you want to ride the bike first. 99bikes does have some sort of exchange guarantee in the event that you don't like the bike though.

          • @Banj0: i am tempted to buy online but if im gonna be spending a decent amount i think its best i sit on the bikes and see how they feel etc. also alot easier to take back to shop if i got problems but i guess thats where price comes into purchasing bike. are Polygon meant to be any good? i did have a look at them, ill check out 99bikes and see what they got. my biggest problem is not knowing if the specs on these bikes are any good or not as i havent really been involved with mountain bikes for alot of years(new parts, new this new that) Thanks for the info though mate. appreciate it

            • @Crumydog: Sounds like trail bike geo dual suspension would be good (130-140mm travel)
Nothing really on pushys right now

Giant are aggressive discounters so you can nearly always buy at about 20-30% off rrp (say around 3k)
Its not that its a bad bike its just not good value when comparing to second hand market

The frame is alloy the wheels are crap and its filled with basic parts (giants home brand stuff)
The forks are good (fox 34s good for what you wanna do) but thats about it
Drivetrain is ok 1x11 or 1x12 entry level is on most bikes now though
Its easy to outgrow and if you get serious you will want to replace everything bar the forks

You can get a carbon frame + better parts second hand for that amount of money
Have a look at the facebook mtb buy and sell groups

              • @thirtysixd: hmmm ok thanks for that, ill check out facebook.

my biggest problem is im not up to date with the specs of these bikes. so buying second hand i could buy something with shitty parts. lots of research i guess. thanks alot for that info man.

                • @Crumydog: be good if i could somehow chat with you away from here?? lol sounds weird i know.

                  via email or whatever

                • @Crumydog: specialised endure elite 650b

                  your thoughts on this?

                  http://prntscr.com/r7qdl3

He wants $3500 as is or $3000 with original wheels, bars and stem.

              • @thirtysixd: @thirtysixd
Can I butt in on this bike nerd advice :)
I have a 13 year old son who's been riding an entry level Giant Talon for the last couple of years and has now outgrown it and is doing some club events on trails and enjoying it.
I'm looking at a 2018 2nd hand Merida Big 7 300 which looks to be good spec and should keep him going for a while.
Is this a good option or should I be looking for a dual suspension setup?

                • @gunslinger: Sure haha

Depends what type of trails or events

If he wants to bomb downhills and enter enduro events then a dual suspension will be much more fun
If its cross country type events then a hardtail is all you need

The advantage of a hardtail is that they are cheaper and lighter but they are also less capable downhill

Dual suspension frames are harder to find in extra small sizes so if an adult small frame is too big then the second hand market will be really slow

So I guess it also depends on how long you think itll be before he outgrows a new bike
Smaller sized frames from polygon, marin etc start from about 2k new and hold resale value pretty well (thanks to slow second hand jr size market)

                  • @thirtysixd: Thanks @thirtysixd,
I think he enjoys the "bomb downhills" bit most TBH, more adrenalin, less work :D
So looks like I should at least try him on a dual suspension, our local bike shop has try and ride days every now and then so will try and get him along to one.
He's 178cm, so quite tall for his age so I've been looking at medium size bikes.

How does dual suspension go just riding around town and on hardpack trails?

                    There goes the budget :D

                    • +1

                      @gunslinger: Demo days are perfect

Im assuming hes not gonna grow that much but if you or mum are 200cm+ then I might be way off again
Medium or large frame might fit (depends on torso/leg length but a few brands size slightly bigger or smaller)
Second hand market is real good for these sizes

                      https://www.bikeexchange.com.au/s/dual-suspension-mountain-b…
If you wanna compare prices for new bikes

                      Depends on the travel mostly
New bikes are not too bad to pedal with but as you go up from 100-200mm travel it gets worse and worse (around 160ish it gets annoying for hardpack/uphill)

                      • @thirtysixd: Thanks, I hope he'll stop growing soon, I'm 182 so he'll overtake me by the end of the year at this rate.

Cheers for the advice, much appreciated.

              • @thirtysixd: well thanks for the advice dude, i ended up buying a second hand trance advanced 0. thanks again, much appreciated.

                • +1

                  @Crumydog: Good do everything bike

Nice specs so will last a while :D

                  • @thirtysixd: have you got messages allowed in your settings? i just changed mine.

  • Not bad price for a few of those clearance Mavic wheelsets

  • +1

15% off might bring them down to bikebug prices.

  • Good for thule 927 bike carrier. Almost never on sale. $749 already is the lowest price I have seen, taking another 15% off is great, but $57 delivery fee.
