Nice price on the V40. Thanks.

  • +1

LG V40 been this price since Dec.

    • +4

Only when there’s been a discount code.

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/product/lg-v40

      • I still wait for more discount :D

      Hi Dealayed,

Agree it's been at this price a few times when discounted since Dec, but usually with these EOL flagship models it will be around this price or similar for the next few months. Think this is a still an excellent price for a previous flagship with SD845, OLED screen & Quad DAC

      • Any possibility of bringing this down to $480.00?

  • +4

    Matebook X Pro 2019 (13.9", 3K touch, 8th Gen i7-8565U, 512GB SSD) $2099

Unfortunately it's not $2,099, correct price should read $2,170.
Reason being is that it's 15% off $2,470 which should be $2,099 but the max discount is $300, therefore the price is $2,170.

    • My bad, thank you for the correction (looks like a moderator has already updated the title/description to the correct price)

    8th Gen i5 :/

Feel like it's a bit outdated now.

    • +3

Only compared to the 4000 series Ryzen chips which aren't out yet.

8th gen i5 performance is virtually identical to 10th gen. There's no real difference, infact some of the 10th gen chips are literally just refreshes

      • Significant graphics improvements on 10th gen G7 chips

    • +1

There was no mobile 9th gen U series so it's only one generation behind.

    • +1

Here's the thing. Intel has released 10th gen refreshers but they focus on adding more cores rather than the usual bump in efficiency. Can't really cram more than 4 cores without a 13 inch overheating so this is still a strong device.

  • Does the V40 support Volte & Vowifi on the Telstra network?

    • +1

The V30 does both, and the V40 was sold by JB-Hifi so it's fairly certain. Telstra support " LG devices G5 onwards".

      • Thanks terrys. I can only see the V30 on the JB website for $449.

I was looking at getting the Samsung A30 because it is blue tick but I read somewhere that it doesn't have fast charging, so I'm considering other options. I discovered I needed to be really careful buying a phone, making sure I get the Telstra one not the Optus one otherwise I won't be able to use Vowifi.

        • +1

Many Optus phones are crippled, in that Optus orders one that only receives the frequencies they use, which may not match the Vodafone and/or Telstra ones in some areas. My V30 was a MobileCiti buy, but offers Wi-fi and VoLTE on Boost, but not on Kogan. The only reason ia phone that Telstra support [ provided it was the Aussie model] wouldn't be able to do both would be if it was incapable of using teltra's frequencies - such as a crippled Optus one.

          • @terrys: I have one of those HTC 10 ( Telstra version ), has all Bands, will do Volte for Telstra and Optus but although it shows Volte also for Vodafone can not call out if it's on 4G signal.

  • Thanks OP.

  • anyone got the nokia 7.2?
if so how is the camera?
what size file is a standard photo?

    • Got the 7.1 and I effen hate it, shiza battery and overall poor phone IMO

  • I was quoted $290 for a screen replacement(upper glass) on the V40… might as well buy the same phone again at this price.

    • +1

Depends if the screen would have been replaced by LG ( original panel ) or not, any ip waterproof rating?

Otherwise this would be close to 40% more, so if your phone is in good condition could be bit of a waste.

      • This is the quote I got from LG Australia. It is still usable with the very top left corner of the screen (the area showing the time) broken and few glass pieces missing. It has most likely lost it's IP rating, but no point in replacing it as for an additional $200 i can get the whole phone.

        • +1

What I meant is that if you got the screen replaced for $290, would that be done through a LG

licensed repairer hence using a original quality screen/digitizer kit and possibly including a

New ip rating? In that case/if so, and if your phone is in good condition ( body not banged up and battery

still ok ), then spending $290 on it for some people would be better than getting new phone

which would cost you $200/40% more.

Love the Matebook X Pro (my next laptop) but isn't 8GB RAM a bit of a concern considering these are soldered (I think) so no upgrade path. Chrome can chew 8GB without trying. The 16gb version, whilst more expensive makes better sense to me for future proofing.

What are peoples thoughts, I've been out of the laptop space for awhile and am used to 32gb in my desktop. Am I looking at this wrong? Genuine question.

    • +1

I am of a similar opinion, chrome plus multitasking office suite etc and I believe you need 16GB on a laptop too IMO

They do have a model w/16GB too. Just not here yet I think as locally sold product.

      • Exactly, I won't be using it like I use my desktop but I absolutely will have Chrome and Office running pretty much always. As would most who buy this laptop I imagine. Already in pagefile territory…

        I didn't realise the 16gb wasn't available locally.

PS: My above comment wasn't a sledge at this deal or the laptop (to whoever negged me). It's a serious point, what you buy is what you're stuck with years later and this is a laptop most would expect years out of.

With 16gb not an option I guess I'll just have to rethink how I would manage 8gb. Maybe NVME caching isn't so bad?

        • Yes, agree deal and OP are solid! Just waiting on 16GB

  • Wife needed a new phone (upgrade from S6 Edge) - the V40 should do the trick :) Thanks OP

      Cheers!

  • RAM is soldered/not expandable correct? Is there a reasonably priced 16GB model?

  • v40 is now more expensive?

    • Hi arcticjuggernaut,

      Please see above, thank you
