    Wh…anko?

    • @jv would have like to have big w anko.

I think she doesn't have kmart nearby.

    • +17

Anko is Kmart's own brand. It replaced the various "& Co" home brands they had before ("and co" => "an ko").

  • +63

Surprised they didn't call it Angkor, then it'd be Angkor (18) Watt.

    • +4

I love how much thought went into that. Have a +1.

    • LMAO!

  • +2

i have one of these, they’re good value

  • +15

I see Anko, my mind thinks Anker…

    • +6

As much as one might think Anker has a claim, KMart's home brand has been Anko for so long that it would be a pretty long and drawn out fight…

    • +1

We all know which one is worth buying!

  • I thought Anker was a beer…
    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anker_Beer

  • Is the BlitzWolf the best value?

    • Depends what you need. It doesn't have USB-C. And with no USB-C then also no USB PD.

  • +2

The BlitzWolf says $10.81 for me.

Another one worth adding to the list is this for $15.44.
    https://www.banggood.com/BlitzWolf-BW-S14-18W-Type-C-PD3_0-Q…

    18W QC and PD.

    • Nice solid compact charger, but keep in mind that it can only output 18W Max even if both ports in use at once.

  • +1

So can I use the Anko $10 18w charger for my iPhone 11 with a USB-C to lightning cable from Kmart?

$25 for charger & cable from Kmart vs $49 Apple power adapter + $29 cable

Would my iPhone take advantage of the faster charging speeds? Or should I stick to USB-A and iPad charger 2.4A

    • I bought this charger & a $7 cable from ebay
Which supports 18watts to make a pair & gift for a friend who owns Iphone X, this one will do a quick charge as per specs from apple, 50% in 30minutes. It will have a edge over normal 2.4amps charger

    • It depends on the cable, whether it supports USB-PD properly.

The charger does support fast charging on iPhone 8/X/XS/11 series phones.

    • I'm not sure about the cable from Kmart, but the charging brick should work

  • Is 18w any use? Other than 10w phones, you can't charge laptops etc that need 60w+ right?

    • +2

All those phones that support Quick charging & Pd some of the example's are
      Iphone 8 & above
      Google Pixel series
Xioami Android one series and Mi phones
      Nokia 7 & 8 series
      Lg V30+, V40 & more

      • Wonder if the Anko 3 port charger has a Max 28W if two or three ports are used?

Some laptops will still take 18W through USB C PD ( although they state 45W or more ) but will charge slower ( often only if device is asleep or off ). Just depends on size and config, as well as manufacturers limitations.

        • +1

I'm reading it as 2 output power rails: 1 for the USB-A that provides max 10w (shared over two ports) and then the second USB-C with max 18w.

Whilst it isn't mentioned on the website or the manual, I'm guessing it is indeed capable of a max 28w output.

But obviously it can't do 28w for a single device.

          • @Grish: That was my mistake when I assumed same for the Blitzwolf BW-S14, only 18W Max Total.

Still a handy and really compact solid charger though.

You could slow charge a laptop. It probably won't be enough to charge and use the laptop at the same time (as the battery level probably will still drop).
Bear in mind that the laptop does not charge at 60W constantly. It does need to slow down towards the end - when it is close to fully charged (otherwise the battery will explode).

Also, higher power rating doesn't necessary means faster. On certain iPad Pro's. the 29W Apple charger is the fastest (because it supports a slightly out of spec voltage, but the voltage + current combo happens to be the highest in the allowable range of those iPad Pro's).

      • You could slow charge a laptop. It probably won't be enough to charge and use the laptop at the same time (as the battery level probably will still drop).

Can confirm this with a 6 core 15" macbook - it charges slowly off a 18w PD charger and in light use stays charged, but heavy use and it will slowly discharge.

I'm too cheap to buy a more expensive charger (its a work laptop), but I get by with this setup. I would not recommend it as a starting point though.

    • it charges my surface laptop 3, even when it's on and being used, though it's not enough to sustain it at all and it quickly drops. will trickle charge it though.

  • +4

great charger for most of the recent iPhones, unlike those in android land we apple users get a max of 18w through USB C :((

$10 is a no brainer for an iPhone 11 user who got a filthy 5w charger in the box

    • Lol are they seriously still providing 5w chargers in the box?

      • +2

        Yes. Apple, “Think different”.

  • Hmm. Should I get for a PI?

    • +1

Seems like it would work well for a Pi4 (with USB-C 5v3a)

But if you have an older Pi2 or Pi3 then any regular 10w brick will do.

  • Kmart should just rebrand themselves to Anko

    • +5

Exactly, everything is Anko and only Anko. KMart is not a pleasant place to shop now, no quality brands at all. Mark my word, KMart will end up like Dick Smith, trying to push their budget store brand, overproducing and got stuck along the way.

      • +1

The ONLY thing worth buying (and only when discounted) is the clothes in my opinion

        • +1

I am not so sure, some jocks I bought from them are all getting so loose that I had to throw them away. Bought a pair of thongs a few months ago, now one side is getting so thin to the point of being unusable. And mind you I am not overweight. Anko is the worst brand you can find in any store. I don't know who got that stupid idea to flood the store with that low-quality brand.

      • +5

Y’know, I don’t think most people shop at Kmart for quality brands. They’re mostly there for things that do the job.

There are plenty of other places to buy quality brands and goods too, even more with online shopping.

        • +1

Yes, but KMart has changed, it was not like that a few years ago, they were not limited to Anko. Just one example: I could even buy Bonds underwear over there before, but thank god, Target, BigW, Woolworths carry them.

    • +5

It's what they call themselves in the US.

To be honest, I'm surprised they didn't pick up parts of or what was left of KMart USA for cheap from Sears and just use that to get started.

  • -2

Anko? Oh dear, that brand is so rubbish. Anyway, nearly the only brand KMart carry now, what a shame.

  • Is this regular price?

  • How about the quality of the voltage / current being delivered? May end up end with a more degraded battery over time

    • +2

If you are concerned about all that, stick with original chargers.
This thing probably uses the same typical chipset used by Blitzwolf and other makers. The USB-C meter you need to test it properly costs more than the charger itself.
At this price, don't expect too much, it would most likely rely on the chipset to do the most of the work.

  • It wants to charge me a $3 admin fee for click and collect in K-Mart. Says pick up option for Target is only available in Victorian stores.

"Why we charge for Click & Collect
Our fees only cover administrative and processing costs. This service is free for orders over $20."

    • +1

Order 2 or 3 or make the cart value more than $20. Collect and then Return the stuff you don't need.
Or just buy it in Store? It's not a sale or anything…this is their normal price isn't it?
Unless you're trying to click & collect from a Target store..?

I've been running the Anko 18W single USB-C charger paired with their USB-C to lightning cable for fast charge on my iphone for a few months now, for $25 it runs well: https://www.kmart.com.au/product/usb-c-to-lightning-cable---…

The Arlec compact pass-through wall charger with 2 x USB charging points is also handy @ $11 from Kmart: https://www.kmart.com.au/product/arlec-compact-charger-with-…

  • will this charge a surface?

    • trickle charges my surface laptop 3, will sustain under minor usage, but not heavy usage. battery x app says it's supplying only around 5w (4v 1A) which is awful. my phone's app says the same. cable works at around 25w with my 30w PD powerbank so it's not the cable.

      • nah, its safer to just buy an USB-C charger from Dell/Lenovo etc

        Those work perfectly

  • BlitzWolf Deal is over

  • Can I use "Anko 18W USB-C PD" Wall Charger to power my Raspberry Pi 4?
It says output is Output: 5V - 3A, which matches with Raspberry Pi requirement.

  • I went to local Kmart and bought this for an emergency charger, listed as $15 but scanned as $10 as the deal.

Although it says 5v-3A, 9v-2A (PD) and 12v-1.5A(PD) it doesn't charge at these rates. My app on my S9+ tells it's only charging at around 4v-1A ~ 5w. The app on my laptop (surface laptop 3) says the same input, although it will charge both, it's obviously not enough to keep the laptop powered through heavy use e.g gaming (though I didn't suspect it would be tbh).

PS It's not the cable as I have a 30w PD charger which the cable works fine for and charges around 25w on my laptop.

Useful as an emergency charger, but don't expect even 18w out of it, I'm getting 5w.

  • Limited stock of these at the moment, had to visit 3 stores before I found one. Probably cause of COVID.

  • There used to be a google sheet maintained by Nathan K on reviewing usb c chargers and cables; looks like its not available anymore - https://twitter.com/USBCGuy/status/1293270430657048577 :(
