[VIC] Montgomery 5 Shelf Metal Storage Unit $70 (Was $109) @ Bunnings, Nunawading

130

Seen at my local, not sure if clearance is state or nationwide.

H 2090mm. W 1200mm. D 540mm

  • powder coated steel, no sharp edges
  • 2nd and 4th shelved fully adjustable
  • rubber floor protectors
  • 9mm MDF shelves
  • rated capacity of 120kg per shelf

You’ll need a rubber mallet and a step ladder (or chair) for assembly. First shelf took me ~45 mins to assemble, second shelf took me ~30 mins.

Packaged product weighs 33kg, it can be carried and moved by one person. It also fit inside the back of my Ford Falcon, across the back seats.
Once assembled I can’t imagine the shelf can be easily moved very far by one person.

Its a compression friction joint, fine for what its job is.

  • i had multiple ones of these and the narrower ones in my basement/garage underneath our house for 3 years. The garage space was humid with multiple fish tanks, the occasional spill and moisture seeping though the brick walls. The MDF shelves did start to grow mould in the last 6-12 months, and lower shelves sagged. Overall, the shelves were suitably stable and strong and never gave any indication of collapsing…. We just moved house, though, and the shelves fall apart very quickly when they are unloaded and moved in any way that isn't perfectly vertical and square. Mostly used for storing xmas decorations, and other medium-weight items in boxes or storage containers.
    I would buy again.

    • A drop of cyanoacrylate (superglue) on the joins helps hold them together, and can still be hammer-disassembled if you ever need to.

I have tons of these, amazing shelves really.

  • YMMV but the MDF of these shelves off-gas a big STINK for ages. Best to seal them with some decking oil or similar.
