Switch to Qantas Health Insurance and Earn up to 120k Qantas Points for Couples, 60k Points for Singles @ Qantas Insurance

220

It's "compare your insurance policy" time of year, as the new rates go up April 1st, generally. So Qantas is pulling out the big guns and offering up to 120,000 points depending on your situation for switching to their insurance.

EDIT: one user has described a 'hack' to pay less, and still earn the max 120k points. At your own risk of course.

Edit 2: Thanks to chickenface: Points will be credited over 9 months, in 8 equal monthly instalments which will commence after the policy has been held for 60 continuous days. To receive each instalment of the Qantas Points, the qualifying premium must remain the same and payments must be paid up to date.

Note that you can also earn points just by walking/cycling/swimming/sleeping using their Wellness app, from which you earn even more points if you're an insurance member.

(disclaimer, have previously worked on their team years ago, no longer affiliated, just think it's a quality product).

From their email:

"Join thousands of Australians who have already made the switch to Qantas Health Insurance since it launched in 2016. In that time our members have been rewarded with over 2.5 billion Qantas Points^ - that’s equivalent to around 8,500 return Business Class flights from Melbourne to London (plus taxes, fees and carrier charges).~

Now it’s your turn
Make the switch to Qantas Health Insurance and you could be planning your next holiday sooner. Earn up to 120,000 Qantas Points* for couples, families, and single parents covers or up to 60,000 Qantas Points* for singles cover, when you sign up by 5 April. So where could you go?"

Insurance is underwritten by NIB.

OF course, do your research first. For me the difference between it and the other best policy for me was about $8 a year, and I get Qantas points with this one, so a no brainer.

To calculate how many points, see this chart.

@batrarobin: awesome great stuff, def report back!

qantas/nib have had this system for over 18 months so i find it hard to believe that it has changed recently. i'm close to the industry and how the systems work - so i know how slow things move with them :)

            • @leeroys_dad: i think they started a new campaign and the conditions have changed to get rid of this loophole.

              • +1

@ssjmark: yep new campaign (new dates), but same T&C stating 'whatever cover you have on day 60'

Qantas Frequent Flyer members who purchase a Qantas Health Insurance policy between 9 April and 11:59pm AEST 17 May 2020 will earn up to 100,000 sign on Qantas Points. During this time 100,000 is the maximum number of sign on Qantas Points that can be earned upon purchase of combined Gold Hospital and Top Extras Cover for Couples, Single Parents or Families. Each Qantas Health Insurance policy has a maximum number of points that can be earned upon purchase, which can be found here. Points will only be awarded to the primary policyholder after the policy has been held for 60 continuous days and will be based on the level of cover held at that time. Not available to existing Qantas Health Insurance, nib, AAMI, Apia, GU Health or Suncorp health insurance customers, or to previous policyholders who joined and cancelled 6 months before or during the offer period. Qantas may withdraw or extend this offer at any time.

            • @leeroys_dad: I got a call back today to let me know that they are arranging for balance points to be credited manually.

I was advised that the Qantas/NiB systems apparently sync 3-4 days earlier and I upgraded my plan a little too late so the bonus points were credited based on the cover at the time of syncing.

In any case, I am advised that my points will be credited in 2 weeks and now I am confused whether I should keep the upgraded cover till then or just revert to the original now.

              • @batrarobin: Great stuff!!
If it was me I would hold out, wait until you get the points then downgrade/switch. Better safe than sorry, they pay off is better

              • @batrarobin: Hi Batrarobin what did you say to them because I might be in the same situation as yours.

                • @nightelves: I just said I was supposed to received 120k points as per your T&C's that were applicable at the time of joining. The agent went away and did her research and later found out that I only upgraded the cover only a few days ago, however as the T&C's clearly said the points would be according to the cover on the 60th day so she didn't have any problem honoring the bonus

                  • @batrarobin: Did you have to point them to the T&C?

                  • @batrarobin: If everyone calls up and points out to them that they are supposed to receive their points on day 60 and they notice everyone just recently upgraded, it may be flagged and the loophole will be closed. If anyone who wants to try this hack, do it early, if u did it late like i did, just move on and do it next round, dont alert them.

                    • @runamuck: I believe the loophole has already been closed with the new T&C's.

                      • +1

@batrarobin: T&C are the same as previous apart from dates and max points. The day 60 clause still exists in T&C

                  • @batrarobin: you had any luck with getting bonus points?

                    • @nightelves: No not yet, I followed up yesterday and was luckily answered by the same girl I spoke to earlier. She checked in her system and said that it hasn't been full 2 weeks from when she requested these points to be manually credited, she said she would wait for another couple of days before she follows up further.

PS: I reduced my cover to the original a week ago because I didn't want to be paying so much in this waiting game. She picked that up yesterday while looking into the system and herself said that that shouldn't affect my eligibility of receiving the points.

                      • @batrarobin: Yeah I just did the same as you just now.

                      • @batrarobin: Wait aren't you meant to get the points earlier than me given you upgraded on the 8th May and your points were meant to get credited on the 12th which is today.

                        • @nightelves:

on the 12th which is today

                          What!?!

I am told that my points need to be manually credited because probably I upgraded my cover about 1 day too late for the 'systems' to automatically sync and apply the points. Read my comment here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/8712214/redir

                          • @batrarobin: Got it. So I'll know mine by tomorrow then.

                            • +1

@nightelves: Got sick of it so decided to cancel my policy which Qantas has said is absolutely fine given I have paid for two months. So now will wait on the points without having to pay extra for the premium.

  • So do points get credited on the 60th day or the 61st? Joined on the 13th and switch to top hospital and extra on the 9th. Let’s hope it works.

    • Yep very late on day 61 (wake up on day 62 and points credited)

    • I think yours are also borderline dates, similar to mine. Not sure if you would make the cutoff… Good luck 👍

  • Still have not received my points. Got insurance on the 13th March and now it’s the 15th May. Wonder if I should give them a call.

  • +3

So can confirm after calling Qantas Insurance that the policy does indeed states that I will get 120k points because I upgraded to Top Hospital and Extra before the 60 days. Will need to wait till Monday to know if those points will be credited.

    • any luck?

      • Had to follow up with another call. No points as of yet. They're still trying to investigate it.

  • Has anyone got their points yet? I’m still waiting on 125k that Qantas owes me but have not credited.

    • seems very strange, have you paid premiums up to date, who is the policy holder? you or your partner?
I'd say you need to follow up again

      • Yes they said they’ll credit me after 1 or 2 weeks. I’m in the same boat as batrarobin. All premium and everything has been paid and in good standing.

I just want to get my points, cancel and move on.

        • Are you keeping your maxed out cover until they pay out the points??

          • @ssjmark: Yeah I have to or else they can make an excuse not to credit the points.

            • +2

@nightelves: small price to pay IMO.

although one thing you can do is sign up with another health fund today but say that you AREN'T transferring from another fund, and then get your QFF points credited and contact Qantas to say that you have moved and here is my letter with my new fund showing the start date. They legally need to refund you as you cannot hold cover with 2 health funds at the same time.

              • @leeroys_dad: Nah i'm just gonna be claiming everything during this time. Even if you ask them to cancel aren't they meant to pay you the difference?

                • @nightelves: yes they will refund you so you only pay what you are covered for (pay for 30 days, cancel after 15 days, get 15 days refunded) but you can only genenrally cancel from "today onwards" rather than asking for a cancellation to be backdated 2 weeks. backdating a cancellation generally only works if you have signed up with another fund like i mentioned previously

                  • @leeroys_dad: Provided you haven’t made a claim right? What if you made a claim?

                    • @nightelves: Correct. They won't let you cancel if you have made a claim

                      • @leeroys_dad: I’m confuse. Don’t insurance policy allows you to cancel your policy and get a pro-rata refund?

                        • @nightelves: yes, but you can't say "please cancel my policy starting 2 weeks ago" unless you have proof that you have cover elsewhere. you can call up and say "please cancel my policy starting today" and they will refund the extra you have paid

                          • @leeroys_dad: Ok so if I get you clearly you can go to another health insurance provide today and two weeks from now the point come through. Call up Qantas and have the policy refunded and backdated to today provided no claims have been made. If a claim has been made then that would avoid the backdating correct?

                            • @nightelves: yes correct. you'll need to show evidence of having another health cover and don't forget to transfer waiting periods you'll need to provide the transfer certificate from Qantas (nib) to the new fund so they can apply the waiting periods you have already served

  • Has anyone had luck with this?

  • +1

Have finally got 125k points! 120k for bonus and 5k for referral.

    • great news!

      • Funny enough the deal is happening again with promo ending on 30th June. Gonna attempt this again after 6 months but will be switching cover a lot early to avoid the hassle.

    • I got my points too… finally after a month long hassle.

  • Day 55 for me and called in to change my policy to top family hospital and extras.

    Wish me luck.

Points should be received by day 62?

    • +1

Yep when you wake up :)

      • Morning of day $62 and no points :(

        • Damn… Time to call them

          • @leeroys_dad: What's the best number to call to get dealings like this fixed??

            • +1

              @ssjmark: Phone: 13 49 60 (Monday to Friday, 9am-7pm AEST)

              Or try their online chat

              • @leeroys_dad: Called them and confirmed points are being processed. Cancelled my policy straight after.

    • Best thing to do also is if you don’t receive your points by the 62nd day. You can cancel the policy and wait it out until you get the points. Minimises you having to pay a premium for Top Hospital and Extras.

Legend, just got mine - thanks leeroy and OP
