              @kahn:

Do you think ethnicity is the same as religion?

No, but tolerance means the same in either context.
More than one way to pray. You don't need to have a stupid painting or statue to pray to.

    • +2

In Islam wealth and appearance is not significant, rightous deeds are. So possibly there wouldn't be any statues or the like.

      • +3

If appearance was not significant then muslim women would be allowed to wear whatever they want.

  • Location in the title please

  • +9

    Are homosexuals allowed?

    • +12

      I'd say you'll be allowed, don't worry.

      • -1

I don't know what's worse, the fact strang was pretending to care about one social minority to bring down another, or that you used that same minority as an insult to create further division.

        • +4

Sorry if you took it that way, it was not my intention.

I naturally assume strang is homosexual or knows someone who is that wants to attend (otherwise why would someone ask?) and I genuinely mean that he/she will be ok.

I have homosexual friends who went to an open day last time and they were welcomed.

      • +14

I have spent 3 years living in Egypt and can absolutely say with certainty that homosexuality is not tolerated within the religion of Islam.
Understand that Ozbargainers are going to neg here, but this is only fact that i have personally lived for a period of time.
The atrocious way the men would treat homosexuals was disgusting and if the SJW's pretending otherwise could only spend time living amongst this it would certainly change minds.
To be clear, I am pro LGBT+ and believe equal rights for all, this is just facts about a group of people

        • +1

It's naivety, they haven't lived amongst it like you have nor have they probably seen the graphic videos. It's this righteous innocence that overlooks the macabre truth probably because they can't handle seeing the truth or because they are completely unaware as media tends to completely sugarcoat the religion. It's like trying to retain a false mirage of equality where everyone just gets along when it is completely different in reality.

I've seen many videos of how LGBT+ members are treated in Islamic countries, I won't go into detail but it is atrociously barbaric and inhumane. Call it morbid curiosity but one thing I wish is that I could unsee what I've witnessed.

Just look at the legislation of countries that are majority Muslim towards the LGBT+ community. "In Afghanistan, Brunei, Iran, Mauritania, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, parts of Somalia, Sudan, United Arab Emirates, and Yemen, homosexual activity carries the death penalty or prison sentences". These countries are also vehemently against the progression and liberation of the LGBT+ communities. "Most Muslim-majority countries and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) have opposed moves to advance LGBT rights at the United Nations, in the General Assembly or the UNHRC".

Islam is incongruent with LGBT+ amongst other things coughwomen'srightscough.

        • -2

I know this is happening in Egypt and many other countries, however, we are discussing a mosque in Australia, not Egypt nor anywhere else.

Things that happen overseas don't happen here.

    • Yes. It's a private museum so don't go all mardis gras and expect to be greeted with a smile.

    • Nah. If you're gay they cut your head off at the door. It must be blissful being this stupid

      • That seems excessive

    • Ask the customer service there to find out

  • +5

This isn't my cup of tea either, but it saddens me to see that, as a country, we've regressed to racism , bigotry and intolerance rather than becoming more enlightened and having a live and let live attitude.

I hope that these are the vocal minority rather than representative of real Australians.

    • +1

Judging by your troll comment above, you should be more saddened about your own regression.

      • +1

I'll let the poor-judgement "troll" comment slide upon reading this one. It's logical and promotes compassion rather than the separation you're trying to force people into.

        • +3

S/He is clearly having strong views on LGBTI yet aspiring to be ultimate Australian!

My comment is clear! Homosexuals have been and are being prosecuted in Muslim countries (Google will be your friend). There is a need for this hatred to be discussed among Muslims and a museum may have some role to play.

          • +6

@[Deactivated]: Mate, you are transparent. I have extremely strong views on LGBTIQ, in that I believe they deserve every right straight people have, including learning about other religions and cultures.

We're in Australia, so of course LGBTIQ are allowed.

You are obviously the kind of uneducated bigot that calls themselves Australian, not knowing that real Australians want nothing to do with you.

In truth, I feel sorry for you. You close yourself off so you can't learn and grow.

I assure you, you can speak to a Muslim, gay person, Christian or anyone else, they aren't the scary monster you've painted them to be.

            • -1

              @imurgod: What?

              • @[Deactivated]: I know, there's a lot of big, scary words. Try sounding them out.

            • +1

@imurgod: So we should be tolerant or even accepting of their view of hatred toward LGB+ Australians? This is ok because "they aren't the scary monsters you've painted them to be?"
It's very clear they would not be accepted or welcomed given how strongly opposed the religion is to this, shown by the amount of violence and murder committed in the name of their God or just the general disgust shown toward them treating them less than human even they now live in a much more free and open country.

              • +1

                @91rs: Yes. Lead by example.

This stuff you're saying is not unique to any religion and is illegal in Australia.

We're not talking about how it's practiced elsewhere.

The fact is that we should be accepting in general.

Most Muslims love Australia for the very fact that we're laid back.

You say it's very clear that they would not welcome and hate LGBTIQ, yet I know that not to be true. I had friends go to an open open day previously and there were no issues at all. They were, in fact, welcomed.

Most dogmatic religions don't allow any of this stuff and have violence inherent (have you ever heard of the crusades? That was Christianity).

To be honest, I have no idea what draws people to religion, given how backward it is, but I don't get to tell people their beliefs, just as I don't get to tell you who to hate and what for. All I know is, hate begets hate.

        • +1

          A homophobe and islamophobe… in 2020!

I'll bet they're fun at parties!

      • The fact that you took that away from my comment says a lot about you, not me.

    • Tolerance is not a virtue.

  • +3

Do women have to be fully covered? Or can they wear shorts etc?

  • +7

The islamic faith is incompatible with Western society. No thanks to this deal!

    • I find this comment interesting. Do tell us why?

Keep in mind that the Jewish and Islamic faiths are as close to each other as any others. Infact the Jewish faith is closer to Islam than Christianity (a rebbi will confirm this). They have nearly identical law's for most things, including adultery, modesty, blasphemy etc.

What makes one compatible with the West and the other not?

Ignorance or politics… Which ones your poison?

      • +6

Couldn't agree more to not being compatible. Unique clothing. Condemning other religions and practices and ways of life. Needing to have everyone follow the religion. And being extremists means they need their own Muslim countries. Oh wait… they have that kind of place where they are compatible.

  • +1

If you disagree that this is somehow a bargain, you are guilty of hate speech. No one will define hate speech for you, as no definition exists.

    • +4

      "nO deFiNitIOn eXiStS"

"abusive or threatening speech or writing that expresses prejudice against a particular group, especially on the basis of race, religion, or sexual orientation."

I know using google is too much of a challenge for individuals with freezer temperature IQ, but maybe try it once in a while

      • Lol such angery.

Raising the issue of harmful and violent practices and beliefs is expressing prejudice. So questioning islam can be quickly and easily redefined as hate speech. Right? Or am I just too stupid to speak to one so high in their ivory tower? You can't disagree either, because people all over the world go to jail, are beaten, and even killed for questioning islam.

  • Everytime some muslim related deal is posted we're flooded with the pro muselim propogandists who upvote it far beyond the average deal, then those users never make any other contribution to the site. Give it a rest you oikophobic bigots, youre just making yourselves look dumb

    • +2

While on the subject of dumb ……..

  • Even if they offered me a gold coin donation to come and take a look, I would keep walking.
This is the same mosque where adherents pray/beg their allah to punish non believers every single day.
Now they want to invite you in??

    • +3

This is the same mosque where adherents pray/beg their allah to punish non believers every single day

Do you have any evidence? If not, stop being bigot loser who blindly follows media and follow the herd to create hatred.

      • -3

Plenty of evidence. It's part of their daily prayers. You should try educating yourself rather than throwing away insults. You asked for proof but said I was a bigot regardless. Stay irrational.

        • I'm a Muslim. I don't pray that at all. I think you're mistaken or blissfully peddling ignorance.

The primary surah (chapter) is "Al Fatiha" which I believe you're thinking of as the repeat prayers.

          In English it is translated…

          Praise be to God (Allah)
          The Eternal, the Absolute,
          The King of the worlds,
The Owner of the day of judgment,
          You alone we worship,
And You alone we beseech for help,
Guide us to the straight path,
The path you have bestowed upon true believers,
Not of those who turn astray,
Nor those who earn your anger.

Where is the punish part there?

      • -1

Something tells me this bloke knows a hell of a lot more than you. But keep defending the idology of conquest and supremacy while remaining clueless. https://www.politicalislam.com/prayers-for-kafirs/

    • +1
      1. It's a museum, not a mosque though. It's about the history of Muslims in Australia and their contribution
      2. How do you know what they say inside the Mosque if you've not even willing to consider a visit to a Museum?

… maybe drop by a bikies den instead?

  • +4

not religious at all but I find religious buildings are wonderful examples of what we as humans can achieve if we come together for a single purpose.. no matter how strange that purpose may be ..

  • +3

    No thanks

  • +4

The purpose of this open day, the discount and of the museum in general is to be able to go there and learn something. Maybe the people posting comments about Islam here can go there and and learn something new. I know I did, when I went there.

    • -1

      That's beautiful thankyou.

    • -1

      Here’s something I learned recently:

Early versions of the Quran include the story of the Prophet receiving advice from Satan to allow Meccans to keep worshipping idols while they converted to Islam.

Known as the Satanic Verses, they were removed by Muslims in later centuries because it portrayed the Prophet unfavourably and went against Islam’s monotheism. The account is accepted by secular scholars as authentic.

      • That's some really great history, but what's your point? Are you basing your view of Islam based off that?

  • +2

Love their attitude towards lgbtqi people, very progressive.

    • -1

Lols… wonder if they will be stopped at the gate when they try to get in for the bargain deal.

    • Their attitude is pretty much the same with the other popular religions.

      • Take a drawing of Mohammed participating in gay sex into a mosque, and a drawing of Jesus doing the same, into a church. Then see how similar their attitudes are;)

  • -1

Finely we can c where all the halal certification money goes lol

    • Translation please.

  • the religion of peace dot com

    Plenty of reading in there.

  • No surprise some of these comments are trash. I am also Pro LGBT (and gay myself) but I still don't mind learning something new. The ignorance of people never fails to astound me. Thanks OP for posting.

    • +1

Do you even know what they think of gays? Please do some research.

      • What do other religions think of gays? You should probably do your own research as well.

Look at the difference between comment above yours and your own; dylo says he/she is gay but likes to learn new things, your comment is as closed-minded and ignorant as one could get.

A gay person can easily go to this thing and be fine. I'll bet everything I have on it.

        This isn't Saudi Arabia.

      • +1

Yes, I do. Do you assume that they all think like that or that there are actually some that think outside that box?
(Edit- this reply was meant to be upthread but got lost along the way)

    • For sure learn, however don't be shocked when their views are presented.
I'm yet to meet a follower of Islam who is accepting of the LGBT+ community, I've only heard some rather disgusting and hateful things said. Things that should not be accepted as its part of their religion (or any other religion).

      • You mustn't know many Mulsims then.

I know of at least 10 gay Muslims who are accepting of the LGBTIQ community.

You might miss them because they look like anyone else and not the extremist image you have in your head.

But I agree with your "learn" comment.

        • I know a couple gay Muslims, of course they're accepting. They're also the ones who have escaped due to the fear of what will happen to them if they stayed.
Its the ones who are not that are the issue, the every day ones I've worked with that for almost every other thing are in line with Western values until one of a couple things trigger them, anything about abortion (news reports or people who are pro-choice), the "Jews" or the LGBT+ community.
That's when the horrible things are said and core values are shown.
I've made complaints at a previous workplace due to things said, which HR then went on to defend as it was "part of their culture" and "part of their religion" which makes saying terrible things that would get anyone else fired tolerated and acceptable it seems.
Different workplace, different city, people with the same religion and guess what they have the same unacceptable views.

          • @91rs: I have read about that stuff. It is very sad/scary.

Good on you for having enough courage to speak up, it's unacceptable behaviour regardless.

  • -1

a barbaric system of belief that has no place in the western world

    • +2

They all have their plusses and minuses - which religion are you referring to in particular, or does your comment cover all of them?

  • +1

See we are in a country of equal rights and it's illegal to discriminate gender yet only men are allowed in Mosques… The women can pray if they like in a side room while they wait for the husband to pray.
That's really what the side room is for.

Also if the men go to heaven and get 72 virgin women in heaven what happens to the women that pray to Allah on earth?

  • History lesson for everyone :)
    Allah
When the male dies he will be rewarded 80,000 servants and 72 virgins.

    Prophet Muhammad
Married a 9 year old girl at 53.

(Marriage is greatly encouraged in Islam, partially because it provides a lawful institution in which to fulfill one's sexual urges.)

    • Can you tell me how old Joseph was when he married Mary?

  • -1

I think we should be wearing masks by now. The virus is spreading. Y do we have to wait till hundreds of people are infected before the government makes it mandatory. We should be in lock down like Italy and China to stop this virus. Its scary and serious.

  • +3

My son went to an Anglican School. He, like I, is an atheist (Or as a friend who is a minister says "an unconvinced Christian").

THe school had default "Religious Education" Classes weekly - but… There was an optional alternative - comparative religious studies class - it involved field trips to buddhist temples, sundry others and the local mosque. I went along as a parent to the Mosque trip. The imam was one of the most intelligent and friendly people I have ever met.

I have a long term (20+years friend) persian (Old school iranian) in Sydney - he would always say "god bless" to me on our parting etc. I assumed him to be a christian. It wasn't until I met him and family at a resort hotel, and aforementioned son noticed the arrow on the ceiling of the hotel room, and commented that it was there to point to mecca, for any muslims staying there, that my friend complimented him on his observation…

    • Its subtle infiltration… They're trying to convert you all.

Read above from other commenters, "everyday" Muslims aren't diverse ethnically or culturally and have the same mentality globally sarcasm.

      Thank you for your comment.
