    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dell-G3-15-3590-Gaming-Laptop-i5…

    $899.20 for Dell G3 15 3590 Gaming Laptop i5-9300H 8GB RAM 256GB SSD GTX1650 4GB White

    • Post it mate!

    • OOS

  • Nice find on G3!

  • +1

Would be an amazing deal on a G7 17 if they added some of the other models.

    • Yeah. I was after a 144hz i7 in 17" but they're out of stock. Messaged eBay Australia and their response seemed to convey they won't be restocking for a while.

      • +3

You don't want the 2070 maxq version of that laptop. I had to return mine due to really bad thermal issues!

        • Did you end up getting a replacement or refund?

The 2060 GTX model was OK. No undervolting needed or thermal repasting.
CPU did reach 100deg every now and then, but gameplay wasn't affected.

Only thing I found with mine was coil whine under keyboard.
It was driving me crazy since I work in a quiet environment.
Had to disable C-state in bios to fix this at cost of draining battery quicker.

          • @zobragin: They (ebay) let me have a refund.

Nice to know you can actually game on yours though.

I don't recall having coil wine on mine. Sorry to hear you're having to make compromises too :/

Anyone know if the 2 in 1 laptops come with the active pen, like they do on dell.com.au?

    • they do.

      • Are you sure?

https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/2-in-1-laptops/xps-13-2-in-1… lists the pen as a $129 option (under Essential Accessories)

        • +1

I messaged them and they said it does. and its $100 to upgrade to windows 10 pro.

          • @vee124: Thanks - to clarify, you messaged them regarding the normal listing on their site, or the eBay listings referred to here?

            • +1

@theMoebius: I just bought one off their ebay site and in my purchase details (after I look up my order number on dell's site) it says the Premium Active Pen is included.

  • Ah ako likes what Microsoft is doing with windows 10x, it's like two tablets stuck together with two screens and a keyboard, it's fascinating. I couldn't imagine using this laptop unless the keypad directional keys were flat not child like.

I've seen some terrible laptop knock offs, but they have great apple type keyboard layout (not that I'm a fan of Mac books but admire their sheer resilience) the next iteration of laptops will be 15 inch tablets conjoined, and a snap on keyboard in the middle for one screen and the other for productivity. Like this:

    https://www.theverge.com/2020/2/11/21132826/microsoft-window…

While that's vertical I'm sure it will widen at some point.

128gb… eh, a bit low for space?

    • +1

      It's got a 128GB M.2. SSD and a 1TB HDD.

      • +2

Still, you want all your software and actively-played games on the SSD, and 128 doesn't allow that. 512GB of SSD storage is the same price as 128GB of SSD and 1TB of HDD, and I'd personally take the bigger SSD over total combined storage every time.

    • +1

And 8GB is a bit low on RAM.

  • +2

At this moment in time it's an okay deal but Dell has had a G7 i7 16gb rtx2060 for ~$1500 before.

    I'd wait.

    • +3

Given where the AUD is travelling. I wouldn't wait.

  • Is Dell XPS 15 2-in-1 Laptop i7-8705G RX Vega 16GB RAM 512GB PCIe SSD 4K UHD Touch for $2949 worth its cost for a powerful Windows laptop?

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dell-XPS-15-2-in-1-Laptop-i7-870…

    • +3

I'd wait for the Ryzen rDNA 2 laptops right around the corner.

Good specs would be: minimum CPU speed 2.ghz, and 3.2ghz max, any highers welcome with 6 physical cores, and 6 plus virtual cores, 16gig ram, storage optional, you optional based on the varients.

But the newer laptops arriving soon.

      • +1

Release date seems to be 16th March in Europe & Asia - I'd be hesitant to push the button now…

        • btw, the Ryzen 4000 series wont use RDNA but a more efficient version of GCN for graphics. Result is the same though, apparently they blow entry level dedicated graphics out of the water with their new APUs

          • @klatscho: With Asus, and accer going bat shii crazy over amd heating issues requirements for desktops, I'm sure the beastly amd Ryzens will support rnda, but yeah the Apu varients with out dedicated gpu's or with vise versa will be very powerful then ever.

      • Definitely would be good to wait for the new ones, but won't they be the usual Dell $4K plus? This old configuration at $2340 actually still seems pretty solid.

        • There's lots of pc configurations coming this year, some running Windows 10x dual screen, no idea if amd 4000 series will be in it in all its glory, or even the laptop varients but you'll definitely get a bang for your buck when the ps5 and Xbox release this year, because the laptops will most likely support 2.1 hdmi, and the life of the battery is rumoured to be 18 hours on some laptops.

  • They have a G5 15 5590 Gaming Laptop i7-9750H 16GB RAM 256GB SSD GTX 1660Ti 144Hz for $1503.20.
    Not a bad price?

    • +1

No, it's not a good price. G5 has lower build quality than G7. GTX 1660Ti is much slower than RTX 2060. The reasonable price for it should be around $1,000 - $1,200.

      • Thanks for the info.

      • +1

More like $1300. It will never be $1k.

        • What laptop models would you recommend for me to keep an eye out for that price with these spec (i7 9750 & 1660ti?)

    • +1

It's not too bad. G5 isn't as premium as G7 but still solid.
1660TI is about 10% slower than the 2060 which isn't too bad imo

  • This vs the ASUS FX505DU? RTX seems to be higher performance than the 1660ti however whats this version of i5 like vs the Ryzen R7 3750? Not very CPU savvy. Keen to get thoughts regarding the better overall machine long-term.

  • What's with the 2-3 week lead time on deliveries?

    • They are most of the time built to order from overseas.

  • Any way to get items added to their store, ie U2719DC?

  • Haven't really done my research but this has gotta be a bargain:

    https://ebay.us/bx6nHn

The video card alone is worth about $2400!

    • Not bad.

Not really $2400 but still around $1800.

      Also a ~$700 CPU.

  • Does anyone have any recommendations on a configuration that is good for uni yet still powerful enough to run Netflix, Chrome etc on a budget of $1000? I'm not intending to use it for gaming but I want it to have a decent kick behind it. Cheers!

  • No XPS 15 with a dedicated GPU :(

  • Weird - just did an online chat on dell.com.au and they refuse to match their own prices on the Dell eBay store, i.e. the XPS 13 2-in-1 I was looking at has the same base price on both Dell & eBay, yet the former has a 15% discount and the latter a 20%

    • +1

i think cause ebay share some of the discount…same thing with good guys

      • Ah, makes sense thanks

    • Better CPU, memory and storage. Definitely better but will we see those specs at that price anytime soon?

    • Basically saying that now is a great time to buy laptops.
