At that price? I'd rather catch the damn virus than sacrifice my reputation as an OzBargainer.

1l bottles exactly like this stuff cost $8/l a few weeks ago, does retail extortion classify as bargains?

Not being an OzB grinch but these guys (the retailers) are really taking advantage of fearful people :(

    • I know hence why I said I wouldn't normally post as a deal, just know there are a lot of people wanting it :(

      • yep, all good. If people are looking - fyi Red Dot and Reject shop seem to be places the hordes dont look - i managed to get 4 x 1L bottles a little while ago for $8/bottle…..just check every so often, you might get lucky!

I got 2 Palmolive 1L bottles in big w yesterday for $8 each

      Sanitiser? or Hand wash?

  • -1

Just because its selling out every where does not make it a good deal if you charge 4 x the price as every where else.

    • Show me where you can buy it cheaper currently? If you can’t, your negative vote isn’t valid.

      Supply and demand.

I was editing my comment as you responded. Still over priced but still half the price.

See the part where it is out stock and it has been for weeks. Try again?

I’ve preorder some last week for nearly twice this price.

I’m all keen for a bargain too, but not to put my health at risk (and my loved ones with weak immunity) when I don’t have access to soap and water.

        • Pretty sure that the “Product Out of Stock” in red means that you can’t currently buy it there for $14.49

        • It's been showing out of stock for over a week now.

Good luck actually getting one, because there's no chance whatsoever to get any hand sanitiser from Chemist Warehouse anymore.

          • @mg_k: Got some from my local yesterday morning. The online is oos mostly but the stores are still getting regular deliveries. Go in store you will be surprised what there is.

@Kiato: I've been to a few around my place for a couple of days with no success.

You got lucky and that's good for you. Others don't mind spending a little more and have it delivered to their home.

You can dilute this stuff down to 1lt
        https://www.kegland.com.au/phosphoric-acid-blend-sanitiser-5…

        1lr for $6.45 pick up.

And with the savings you can buy some beer making stuff.

        • Not sure that is effective against viruses

  • I'll rather get a box of corona at this price

  • +1

Who in the right frame mind thinks $30 for a litre of sanitser is a deal.
I honestly believe all basic necessities should be banned for a while on ozb as it promotes hoarding.

    • -1

It's a deal when it's selling $70+ everywhere else that actually has stock.

  • -4

    $29.95. Go (profanity) your self.

  • no thanks

  • +4

    This should be illegal.

    • -6

Supply and demand, nobody is forcing anyone to buy is it?

      • +2

I am not forcing anyone not to buy. I am just merely expressing my feeling that this kind of rip off is unethical and should be illegal.

        • -6

Why illegal? Once again supply and demand.

Is it illegal for petrol station to charge more when petrol price goes up due to high demand and/or low supply?

    • +2

I see it as no different to scalping. they have laws against that.
There is a limited supply, they're buying the product in order to profiteer, which is what a scalper does.

  • +1

Let’s all make a quick buck at the expense of others…
    Prices like these are disgusting

  • Buy some disinfectant from a rural supplies store if you can't get anything else.

  • +2

Gross profiteering when people are in need DISGRACEFUL

  • +1

    Shameful post.

  • I wonder if this company will have their hand out for a wages subsidy when the supply of sanitiser meets the lowered demands as the horders run out of space and their cupboards start to smell like an alcholic's fever dream.

Aqium was always the go-to among the professional healthcare workers in my cohort. It was never this price.

  • At home use soap and water.
In the car I poured some 70% methylated spirits (99% ethanol, 1% methanol) and 30% water into non-fragrance hand wipes. Enough to saturate the tissues.
Yes methanol isn't the best but using it infrequently only when soap and water isn't available say in a car shouldn't cause me any health problems.
Metho has been used as a disinfectant and cleaning solution for years.

  • nope

  • Take your price gouging and stick it (mod: edited)

  • Well if you can get your hands on Ethanol/metho or Isopropyl alcohol you can brew your own.
    https://www.who.int/gpsc/5may/Guide_to_Local_Production.pdf

of course washing your hands properly is even better, because the detergent actually dissolves the fat away from the outside of the virus (which it requires to survive) and it makes your hands slippery and the water washes the virus from your hands. But hand sanitisers are good if say you're one a plane and can't wash your hands before eating.

  • Buy a bottle of isopropyl alcohol on Ebay, add some water (or buy the 70% version) and you have an ideal hand sanitiser at a much cheaper price.

  • Isopropyl on eBay has fallen victim to price gougers as well
