RACV Not Providing Refund for Cancellation of Order for Movie Voucher = Expiry 18th March

I had purchased few movie vouchers through RACV. These expire on 18th March 2020.
I called up RACV and asked them to cancel these vouchers and provide refund because due to COVID-19 we want to avoid visiting Cinema Halls.
To my surprise i was told that they cannot cancel.
I asked them to extend the expiry or provide credit still they refuse.
I have now sent them an email and awaiting for response.
Fingers crossed.

Have you suffered any loss due to COVID-19… pls share

Seriously? People have lost thousands on travel bookings, despite purchasing flights and travel insurance before this was an event.
    Move on.

      • +6

You had a long time to use these. No one's fault but your own.

    • *Movie on.

How long have you had them for?

    • -1

      Since 22nd Feb this year

      • +10

So with 2 days to go you ask them for a refund - what were you doing the rest of the time? They don't owe you jack

@Dpkmax: Says who? Is that on the T&Cs?

      • +1

RACV sell movie vouchers with a 1 month expiry? Huh?

        • +2

At a discount yes (nearly 2 months validity)

Valid for sessions between Thursday 23 January – Wednesday 18 March 2020 only

          OP just bought them late

  • I asked them to extend the expiry or provide credit still they refuse.

    Ask the cinema

good suggestion will give it a shot.

      • +1

You bought a voucher through RACV to a cinema. Of course you won't get a refund.

The obvious call is to contact the cinema to seek information about what they will do with expired gift vouchers.

Worse comes to worse, go, donate, or simply don't use. It's hardly the end of the world.

Cinemas are in most cases still operating as normal. If you want to waste your ticket, that's your call.

Go during a less crowded session and choose an unpopular movie.

still riskier , but i like the suggestion.

There maybe a rerun of Contagion.

      • +1

Film still holds up. Highly recommended.

  • what are T&C on vouchers?

    • -1

couldn't find the T&C in the order details , but will continue searching for the same.

    • Thanks

It is your choice not to use the tickets, viz. the cinema is not closed.

  • I've never bought one of the movie vouchers, but they sound a lot like a gift voucher. It might be worth calling the RACV back after reading of https://www.consumer.vic.gov.au/products-and-services/busine…

From 1 November 2019, all gift cards and vouchers sold must be valid for at least three years. The expiry date must be clearly shown. If the card has an earlier expiry date written on it, consumers will still get the mandatory three-year period.

    • +6

Gift cards and vouchers are not covered by the three-year period if they:

are sold for a good or service at a genuine discount

      • -5

If you go to a crap movie then the discount isn't genuine.

  • +2

Yea I've lost brain cells listening to idiots talk about coronavirus.

    • Very valid, I am sure someone is responsible and should compensate you for your loss.

  • +1

To my surprise i was told that they cannot cancel.

    Why were you surprised?
Have you been able to refund unused vouchers for cash before?

  • -1

On the last day of the expiry month, I was on the way, the car broke down and the RACV got to fix it after the movie had started. Surely the RACV should refund me?

Or can I get a refund on entertainment books as its too risky to eat out, and I cant use my discount vouchers?

    All seemingly logical

  • Speaking alongside Health Minister Greg Hunt on the ABC's Insiders program this morning, chief medical officer Brandan Murphy gave an update on the Government's coronavirus measures.

Dr Murphy said the country was in a phase of "broadening" social distancing.

#However, he said social gatherings, such as going to the movies and working out at the gym, were still fine as the risk in Australia was still "relatively low".

  • The risk in buying the vouchers is that a person won't use it within the timeframe required. That's the chance you take in buying a discounted voucher for a ticket instead of paying full price at the movies.
You coukd sell or give away the ticket to a less risk adverse person than yourself.
