Hmm has been cheaper for the HD6xx. Last price was $269. However hd58x is good price

Considering the state of affairs right now, it's a solid price for both, but especially the HD58X.

Given the state of affairs right now I'd expect it to be cheaper.

        • No, that's not how scarcity works.

@jasswolf: It's how thing work when people stop spending because they have no money. Profit margins need to reduce or you get no revenue.

Also these aren't scarce. They have been around for years and are ALWAYS available.

the thing that has led people to stop spending (panemic, quarantines, lockdowns) has also led people to stop manufacturing… hence scarcity.

So has toilet paper. Can you find any now? What are they worth on the resale market?

              • @lostn: Hoarding limited paper availability; and, paper manufacturers couldn't or wouldn't increase supply - why bother when demand will eventually subside and they end up with surplus sold at loss?

Have you seen USD rate today ?

    • +1

Hmm has been cheaper for the HD6xx. Last price was $269.

the dollar has dropped dramatically recently if you weren't aware.

      1 AUD = 0.572143 USD

Lowest in 18 years. John Howard was our PM at the time. His tenure as PM was only at the half way mark. George Dubya was contemplating starting illegal wars in Iraq.

This chart should give you an idea of the size of the dip. We've dropped 10 US cents in the last 10 days. It's actually rebounded since yesterday when it was 55c.

      • .. and, now, back to $0.64.

  • always this price, where is the bargain?

    • +1

Was effectively out of stock for a month, and thus prices were jacked (and Drop enabled AU availability again).

      • oh srry miss read,
from "Addicted to Audio" yes the prices ar droped and not always available.
but from "Massdrop", always available and the same price.

        • +1

Until very, very recently, Drop had disabled shipping these to Australia once Addicted to Audio announced they were stocking them.

@jasswolf: Try the pricing directly from Massdrop now with the current exchange rate, I would say we are quite a bit cheaper now! :)

              @addictedtoaudio: Damn it I bought the HD58x from A2A for $269 8 days ago… I seriously didn't expect a sale on these ever :(

Worth auditioning both and a HD660s if you can. If you like the 660s signature, you can very easily mod the HD58X to sound similar, minus a smidge of detail.

All you do is take off the pads, push the back of the enclosure out, remove the foam lining that enclosure back, then snap everything back on (it's designed to be highly moddable, so this is very, very easy). Takes literally a minute, and is completely reversible.

There's other HD58X mods, but I won't go into them here. Probably one of the better locally-sourced audio buys right now.

Considering the cost of Sennheiser replacement pads alone, I might as well grab another pair of the 58x.

Are the HD58x good for big/large heads? My old QC25's are squeezing my noggin'

    • +2

Can't comment on the HD58X, but the HD6XX feels pretty comfortable on my fat head.

Sold! The price on the HD58X is solid considering the current climate.

This review really sold it for me:

        • just got em today, they're amazing. TY OP.

          • @robo11: How long did it take for the store to send them? I purchased these on Monday (public holiday so it doesn't count) and now 3 business days have passed since then and I've had no indication of them sending them yet.

            • @DecoAus: took about 3 days… I know Aus Post is having delays though

  • HD 6XX's from this deal came today. Really great sound, can see why the 650's are a standard.

    Should I get the HD58X if I already have HD599 ?
Will there be much difference to the average ear?

Don't want to get a headphone amp yet, so hence not really thinking of the HD6xx.
Just home use, PC/PS4, occasionally the TV via amp.

  • Currently using a Philipps Fidelio, are these much of a upgrade in terms of sound?

  • Which one should I get? Is the HD6xx worth $100 more?
Do I need an amp for the HD58x?

  • Jumped on the HD6XX deal on Sunday and got these sweet, sweet headphones on Wednesday. Thanks so much for the heads up OP! I've been waiting to get a Sennheiser HD650 since it was released. To discover that the Massdrop HD6XX is a re-skinned version for half the price is a steal. It's so much headphone for the price. Amazing!

  • To the people comparing 650 to 580, there is a decent difference. 650 is smoother, more refined, very low distortion. 580 more airy and as someone mentioned not as great "ultra detail" as the distortion level is higher.
Lots of psychoacoustics going on with different headphones and people's preferences vs. ear shape and accuity of hearing. I had 650's years ago and sold on. Now using Superlux stuff like hd622evo..knowing that with a few simple mods, ie. tissue it is just more immediately engaging.. even if "on paper" not as good.
