Pixar Animated Film "Onward" Available Early for US$19.99 (To Own) iTunes US / VUDU

150

Pixar's latest film 'Onward' is releasing in cinemas in Australia this weekend in previews but due to cinema closures in the US has been released digitally early on all major platforms there. This means that you can now purchase the film to own and watch immediately from home if you have a US iTunes, VUDU, Movies Anywhere or other compatible account. Note that this option is not currently available on the Australian counterparts of these services, but US accounts are relatively easy to setup and watch from your Australian devices.
This represents a large saving over the cost of a family attending the cinema release together, and may give some people more peace of mind considering the risks with COVID-19 in public places.

There are also reports that Onward will become available to Disney Plus subscribers, included in their subscription, from April 3rd. It is currently unclear if this will apply to US subscribers only or to Disney Plus subscribers worldwide.

Purchase links for the film from US iTunes and VUDU are:

VUDU: https://www.vudu.com/content/movies/details/Onward/1368391

  • Tried watching earlier, kids didn’t like it. Animation is superb though.

It had a bit of a slow start but my kids ended up loving it. The ending was really well done.

Just showed the trailer to my 7 and 5 yr Olds….looks boring they say. Sad. I was super keen to watch it with a pizza! Oh well, Bluey it is I guess…

      • +2

Haha I actually had to switch to Bluey also.

Google Play too if you have a US account https://play.google.com/store/movies/details/Onward?id=x68MD…

It popped up elsewhere too ;-)

It's basically screener season….but in HD!

    • Sadly the only thing to come out of this experience for movie makers is that anything besides the cinema release system simply isn't profitable.

Cinema ticket vs shitty cam version, there's a difference in product. But the exact same thing for $20 vs free? Anyone who knows how will go with free.

      • Surely they just need to improve their DRM method….there must be a way surely?
Also, I still think pirating is the minority..maybe 1 in 20 or even less?

      • Funny I know quite a few people who used to pitrater, but between Netflix & iTunes, they say they’re happy to pay for it either way.

      • I'm sure that's what Vin Diesel is telling himself. So good of him to release Bloodshot early to VOD so his tens of fans around the world can still see it.

  • Makes you wonder if there really is a need for cinemas any more. Also the amount of time between releases on the big screens and home video/streaming.

  • Vudu also has The Invisible Man, Emma and The Hunt available only to rent, but at $19.99. Would there be many people to spend that much on a rental?

    • I think if you’re planning on seeing it at the cinema anyway with a few people then there’s some value if you split the rental cost together. Disney offering the same price to own though seems a much better deal.

Just watched it with my 5 year old and 3 year old. We all loved it. Top ending, very well done.

  • Choosing between a big screen at home in comfort and watch a movie a few months later or a really big screen with bad food and crowds just to see a movie. I would think the cinema is really just for larger groups or a experience to get out of the house
