4P/6P tent good enough for 2x2m social distancing?

    • +3

If you have 1 person per tent and put them all in a line…

      • +7

Well, Aldi just solved the Australian House Crisis…

        • +1

Not really. Because there usually aren't many available for sale.

    • Yes. Exactly 0.5 Scomos.

      • This is going to be a standard new unit of measure.

        • *of distancing.

  • Camping gear? Aldi marketing team must be living under a rock.

    • +2

Just flogging leftover stuff from Germany. I went in once and there was this 7ft garden axe you could buy for $40.

      • +2

Garden axes and toilet paper, not a good combination at the moment.

      • +2

there was this 7ft garden axe

A 7ft garden axe? Was it an axe for giants?

        • definitely a two hander maybe closer to 6ft, they did have hedge trimmers as well though.

        • +1

Pollaxe, the broad swords must of sold out before OP got there :)

          • @Gandalf the Thrifty: Makes sense, but must be QLD thing as you need a permit or an exemption in Victoria to own a sword, even a blunt re-enactment one. :(

            • @mapax: Seriously? wow - i have mates with a few blunt / re-enactment small collections in QLD, never even knew it was restricted anywhere

              • @MrFrugalSpend: Yeah. Basically you need to apply for a permit or be a member of a recognized historical or sporting group to be exempt. And that blunt sword that is less dangerous than a kitchen knife, it must be stored in a locked safe when not in use.

                • @mapax: yet you can probably possess a 75lbs hunting compound bow or whatever?

                  • @MrFrugalSpend: For now, but not a crossbow. They have similar rules to swords and need to be stored and transported like a firearm. At least we don’t have appearance laws like some states.

      • At 7ft long did you mean Axel?

    • Apocalypse prep

    • +3

Not a bad idea. Get away from everyone else for a week, assuming your campsite is far away but within the same state. The 'ban on non essential travel' will probably block that though.

      • +1

It’s essential I get to an isolation area.

      • +1

What is supposed to happen a week later?

        • +14

You return to civilisation to purchase all the essentials that are running low at camp site, catch the virus, return to the camp site and die alone. The end.

    • +6

This will be organised months in advance.

Guarantee you the stock was in their warehouse last year, first month of the year at the latest.

They aren't coming up with their marketing ideas/plans the week before.

    • +2

They dont really think these things through. They sell snow chains to south australians too.

      • they can drive to the snow - i've used snowchains and I live in Qld, the snow sale goes off and its like a 14 hour drive to the snow…. but agree, the chains aren't exactly snapped up off the shelves

    • Unfortunately, catalogues are produced and product sourced months in advance, as it is with all companies. It's amazing they are able to suppport any catalogues atm.
Ironically, this week there were no colesworth catalogues in our regular junkmail.

  • +6

Well it's good if you need to self isolate in your backyard

    • your family / housemates are now your greatest risk!

  • +2

    camping gear for your backyard

    • they must have warehouses full of hatchets folding spades and tent peg mallets.

Every few weeks they drag out the same shit.

Maybe its left over crap the bundeswehr dont want.

    • cheap granny flat.

  • They should rather come up with self isolation kits or even work from home kits.

    • +11

      camping is not banned

no, but non essential travel is not recommended…
but sure, keep ignoring the recommendations and we can all head towards total lock downs

      • Lockdown is already forcoming

        • see… thats the power of ozbargain posts.

Someone says they are going camping and NSW and Vic premiers come out and put a stop to it ;)

          • @SBOB: No one said they were going campin it at this stage camping hasn’t been band in your area

            • @Dex38313: To me 'going camping' sounds pretty much like 'non essential travel'

But sure, if you're camping in your backyard, go crazy

              • +1

@SBOB: I’m on 1 acre in the country

  • +1

Can we camp on the bondi beach? lol

    • -1

SARS-CoV-2 apparently can survive on sand for years.

      • Carried around by Bondi backpackers.

        • +2

          No, that's just herpes.

      • I think CoVid-19 may have attacked negger's humour system :\

  • +16

A dutch oven is an essential part of the camping experience.

    • +3

Can't believe I had to scroll down this far in the comments for a dutch oven joke.

  • what to do with all these camping gears. last time we planned it was bush fires. this time it's Corona.

    what next?

    • Like what the others have said above. camp in the backyard.

    • Haven't you heard that asteroids heading towards Australia ??
      https://www.ibtimes.com/nasa-spots-4-asteroids-headed-earth-…

      • +1

Are sure they are heading towards Australia?
I thought I saw on movies they always land on USA, particularly around California XD

    • probably The Purge

  • +1

that onsie picture… i cant be the only one to notice the horribly obvious cameltoe right?

      1. Yes you are the only one looking at it
      2. No it's not a cameltoe, it's the stitching in the sleeping bag onesie which is very obvious
    • Nice pick up though :-D

    • On him or her?

  • Who on earth would go camping? You cannot social distance in a tent. So much recycled air so much corona spreading.

    • +6

Don't go camping with infected people

      • -1

and when people can be infected, contagious and not show symptoms, how do you determine this??

        • Camp alone

    • I've been working remotely for a decade, and can guarantee you that people are going to go stir crazy pretty quickly. Jumping in my 4wd and going camping regularly is the only way I keep my sanity. I'd be shocked if we didn't see a massive uptick in people going out over the next 6 months.

  • -1

Pretty sure they’ve suspended the special buys for now.

    • -2

I'd say so. It's not an essential service.

  • +3

My wife isn't a fan of Dutch ovens.

  • That hatchet set is cheaper than the cheapest hatchet in Bunnings

    • -1

Mate bought one. There's a reason they're so cheap. They don't really cut anything.

  • -1

Handy seeing home owners losing their houses and renters going homeless soon.

  • +2

Yeah I heard from someone that specials will stop in the coming week(s), but not sure if it's confirmed yet.
Honestly we don't need any more excuses for people to rock up to Aldi en masse to buy more stuff/special/sale items…

  • +1

A tent will be worthless in 6 months when you can buy a house for the same price
