It seems like you have three options for your outstanding groupon vouchers if you can't use them:

Option 1: If you prefer to use this deal at a later date, we are in the process of extending all voucher expiration dates by one year. You can expect a follow-up email with more information about your voucher’s expiration date (if you don’t hear from us by the end of the month, please reach out again and we’ll provide an update).

Option 2: Or, I can cancel your order and process a refund in Groupon Credit, which can be used toward future purchases. In addition, we’ll also apply 10% of the refunded amount toward your next Groupon purchase.

Option 3: They can refund back on your credit card.

Can be processed through a live chat.

How do you avail yourself of these options? Do I just have to email the help desk? Or do I have to go via each order and cancel it? I’d bought serval Groupon for a children’s birthday party that can’t go ahead, but they’re from different venues and stores.

Just start a live chat. Takes a minute or two.

      • I just spoke to them on live chat. They said it’s going to be an automatic process, as they are working closely with all merchants to extend the expiry of the remaining deals. They will email us once it has been confirmed. So no need to contact them, unless you don’t hear anything by the end of the month.
Though thanks for the heads up OP!

Is there a link to live chat? Saids live chat isn't available when I log in

          • @toobzy: I just go to live chat via pressing buy on any deal, and click live chat from there.

      • No live chat available?

        • Try turn off adblocker. It said that when I had adblocker on

          • @farnkie: Hmm still greyed out.. Tried different browsers on pc and phone

Help restaurants to do pick up if you can.

    • +1

would love to support local restaurants if they are still operating…

      • +6

Ditto but ironically Groupon/Uber Eats probably not the best way to do that as they take a fair chunk.

  • Will the Groupon credit only be valid for 14 days like they usually are?

Why would anyone not just choose a refund?

    • +1

@Smulder Just had a live chat, i got 2 options of 1) use the amount for a diferent deal 2) get a groupon credit with 365 days validity. However, i asked if i can get a refund which they happily did.

      • currently doing same. Will make sure I spend it on supporting one of my local restaurants, I've been told doordash takes less of a chunk of their income than ubereats etc so hopefully they deliver in my area!

  • Where do you find live chat?

    • +2

@evgpek click on "Contact Us" at the bottom of page and it will ask you for which deal you need customer support help. Select the deal and choose "Refund" and under "Check the Fine print" you will see a link for "Still Need Help? Contact Us".
Took some time for me to figure out where the live chat is.

    • click Help, select the voucher, click Refund Policy, at the bottom, click Still Need Help? Contact Us

  • +1

Did anyone got this to work? I contacted livechat and they say they will convert my voucher into a credit with 10% bonus, but my voucher is still active with no credit on my account after half an hour.

  • If you select one of your Groupons and ask for assistance, their refund policy says the following:

    Local
Any unused Groupon that is not marked as non-refundable in the Fine Print may be refunded through your voucher’s expiration date.

    Groupon Goods
    Goods purchases are non-refundable.
If the item you were sent is damaged or defective, we'd love to help. Contact us by selecting the link below.
For voucher deals where the order is placed through the merchant’s website, you'll need to contact their support team directly for assistance.

    Groupon Travel
Any unused Groupon may be refunded within seven business days of purchase, unless the Fine Print states otherwise or a booking has been made. We are actively in touch with our partners and also encourage you to reach out to them directly to reschedule your trip or cancel for a refund.

I've sent them a couple emails requesting a full refund - fingers crossed!

I contacted live chat, they gave me the first two options. I asked if I can get a full refund back to my card and I got this response:
"Thank you for confirming your preferred type of refund as original method of payment. Please wait for two minutes while I process the refund for you."

    • So did you get a refund?

      • Yeah, I got an immediate refund. Went straight to paypal

  • +1

I contacted live chat, only normal refund option, no 10% extra

  • +1

Was not offered 10% extra on a voucher expiring in 20 days

  • +1

Thanks SO MUCH FOR THIS - they didn't offer any 10% extra but at least I got refunds.
Much better than Groupon credits for $600 worth of vouchers..which we bought for guests who had planned trips here for our wedding. All of which had to be cancelled :(

  • There is no longer an Option 3 as "policy has changed as of today". What BS

    This is what they said:

"But the policy is changed now we can refund in the original method of payment only if the purchase is made within 7 days"

    • +1

Nooo!! I didn't even get there (see my chat below).

Option 2: I can process a refund in Groupon Credits, available immediately and valid for 12 Months wards almost any of our deals.

    Divya M9:37:38 AM
.Which of those options would you prefer?

    Anastasia Starz9:38:23 AM
Is there a third refund to card option?

    Divya M9:38:36 AM
I am sorry no other option. Please be advised that we are not offering cash refund to any of the deal which is our of cooling off period.

    Divya M9:39:57 AM
    Please do understnad
    Only these two

How are people getting refunds?? I exited the chat and hoping to try again later.

    • +2

Also got the same response.. and also the same chat agent!

    • Threaten with a chargeback in the worst case. They can't provide the goods so it's a reasonable claim.

  • i was also getting a greyed out chat option so have emailed them now, will wait and see, voucher currently due to expire 30/4 hasn't yet been extended.

  • Not ideal but looking at converting my vouchers into some credits rather than a 12-month extension. Has anyone figured out how to self service? There doesn't appear to be any link to click, or is it just me…

  • +2

I got a cash refund yesterday. But then tried to get a cash refund today and they wouldn't let me…
    They gave me:
Option 1: You can choose a different deal or option within this deal, and I’ll be happy to place a new order for you right now.
Option 2: Refund in Groupon credits that only lasts for 30 days…..

    • Woah it's even worse than what I was offered (see chat above).

  • +2

Not acceptable. Consumer affairs here we come

  • So is cash refunds off the table? Or has anyone been able to get them?
Only got offered Groupon credits, and that they are working with businesses to extend vouchers

    • Yes, threaten with a chargeback in the worst case. They can't provide the goods so it's a reasonable claim.

  • No bonus credit offer or refund.

    tried today.

  • tried just now. options have changed again (refund not available):

Option 1: You can expect a follow-up email with more information about your voucher’s expiry date by the end of the month. If you don’t hear from us by then, please reach out again and we’ll provide an update.
Option 2: If you would prefer a refund to Groupon Credit valid for 180 days, I can cancel your order and process your refund today to be used toward future purchases. Just reply to this email and let me know.

At least 180 days is better than the 30 days i was offered earlier in the week. Still a bit crap as restaurants may well still be closed in 180 days time.

    • +3

Same - back and forth email with Groupon since 25th March and they are just giving me standard responses with the same two options even after I said I would submit a chargeback with my credit card and lodge a fsur trading complaint. Anyone have any luck with visa chargeback?

Problem with groupon credit is all their food, travel and experiences partners would be closed and their goods are overpriced low quality goods with additional postage costs that I can get cheaper with free postage on ebay or elsewhere. I asked for extra credit to cover postage but they refused.

Whilst this is only $110, it has left a bitter taste so I will think twice about using them in the future (I would have spent 10k+ on large group hotels, food and experiences bookings over the last 2 years).

      Rant over

  • Same here, just had a chat, got offered 30 days credit and later 180 days credit, I said no as I have 4 x cruise vouchers totaling close to $1000. Cruise company had cancelled the tour for the dates. What are the legal options ?

    • I am on the same boat. I posted a complaint on their fb page as well as lodged one with the ACCC. Can't do much really if they won't refund.

I suppose a lot of people are on the same boat following their policy change.

  • +1

They told me credits are valid for 6 months now

    • +1

Got a credit on my Groupon. < 6 months.

They just did 30 Sep 2020 which is a few days less than 6 months.

  • I have a Groupon that expired on 2 April. They have told me the only option is the 6 month credit.
They said it depended on the merchant, if they agreed to an extension. I do not understand why they would not. Surely they do not get to keep the money. I would have preferred an extension.

    • +3

The merchant doesn't get the money until you use the voucher if the voucher expires and no refund is given Groupon gets the money.

  • In my recent dealings with Groupon they've declined to refund a recently purchased deal that cannot be fulfilled due to Covid19 restrictions, no offer of an additional 10%.
Today they also declined to extend the expiry of a deal that we really wanted to be able to keep for after the restrictions.

While this is an older post now, the information here is not correct (as per other people posting above).

    • So pretty much we're screwed? Thinking of talking to paypal and my bank.

      • +2

They'll give you Groupon credits of the same amount as what was purchased.

  • +3

It's not legal for them to refuse a cash refund if they are unable to provide the service by the agreed date. Despite numerous live chats and being told that my request has been "escalated" without response, I've lodge a transaction dispute with my bank for a chargeback. I'd suggest that you all do the same so that not only do they lose the revenue, but they'll also be hit with a chargeback fee. Hopefully it will deter them from further enforcing this bogus new policy.

    • +1

Please update us on what the bank says.

    • I plan to do the same, except I feel bad for contacting the bank for an almost trivial issue (our groupon is $40) when some people can't pay their loans and mortgages.

      • +2

I'm sure they'd understand that in this current climate, your money matters. Your $40 isn't held up with a financially distressed jobseeker struggling to make ends meet. It's with a greedy corporation refusing to meet their legal obligation. You'd do a lot more good if you got your money back and spent it on ordering takeout directly from a small business.

      • I'm small and petty, I know who I am XD Also someone else here spent 1k+ for holiday deals. I have multiple groupons, would have accepted credits + 10%.

Defs speak to the bank, paypal don't got your back this time can't claim on "intangible goods, like music or vouchers. If you can’t ship it, we can’t refund it". https://www.paypal.com/au/webapps/mpp/returns

  • Spoke to the bank, anything over 120 days is gone RRP. I've submitted one claim, if it goes well I'll be submitting two more. They said not to use paypal for group buys because they have to speak to paypal and not groupon to get the money back.

For the 120+ days we got some credit back, auto form ugh.
"…valid for 30 days to be applied to almost anything on our site."
What is there to buy that's open when you're an hour away from the city??

Don't think we'll ever be using groupon ever again after this, as I feel scammed and will be giving them a bad review.

    • Which bank? My transaction was early Nov and they didn't say anything about time limits when I lodged the claim (their website does actually say 30 days but I thought I'd try my luck)

I will never use Groupon again. There are lots of scathing reviews on productreview.com.au
