Quite a nice vodka too. Cracking price

    • +2

It was actually a vodka argument on OzB which put me onto this stuff. Can’t believe I was drinking Grey Goose and thinking how nice it was and how fancy I was. Grey Goose tastes like cleaning fluid after you’ve had Russian Standard.

      This stuff is delicious.

      • Grey Goose will never taste like cleaning fluid compared to anything

      • Hang on, are you having this neat? Or had a few Russian Standards tonight? It's an unusual comparison that I am sure - very few would share a similar experience. Not saying it's bad or anything… but to be that repulsed by a universally regarded spirit is fascinating

      • +2

Try ruskov , $31 and tastes the same . I’m Russian

      • +3

Russian Standard is my favourite, formulated by Mendeleev. If I can't find this on special I buy Stolichnaya which has a bottle too communist for my liking.

        • Winter grain from Russian steppes is milled and fermented. The raw spirit is distilled four times for the Original, six times for Platinum, while the Imperia spirit is distilled eight times.

The spirits are blended with water from Lake Ladoga. The proximity of Lake Ladoga was one of the main reasons for the company's decision to establish its distillery in Saint Petersburg. The lake's underground sources provide one of the softest waters naturally available. [5]

The product is then filtered four times through charcoal. Platinum receives two more filtrations through silver and Imperia two more filtrations through quartz from the Ural Mountains.

After final filtration, the spirits spend 48 hours in relaxation tanks, are bottled and packaged. As vodka contains only water and ethanol, it generally does not mature or age and its shelf life is limited only by packaging.

In reality it's just an ethanol of dubious origin and distilled water.

          • @[Deactivated]: Well that what vodka is after all, buuut I still like it cause it is easy to drink. Either straight from the bottle "gopnik" style, on ice in a glass or mixed with a coffee liqueur(black russian) During the summer I would blend watermelon and raspeberries, fill up a big glass with ice, put in vodka and mix it with the juice i made in the blender = devine!

Vodka O is oz made, and best vodka I've tasted.

      • Grey Goose VX.

      • I have a bottle of Rammstein vodka at home
        https://www.masterofmalt.com/vodka/rammstein/rammstein-vodka…
(not bought from here, link is just for display)

Not opened yet so I don't know how good or bad it is, but who cares!

  • You know how they keep warm in Russia…

    • +7

      Krokodil?

      • Schnappi?

      • Krokodil is that drug that made people go crazy and turn them into zombies.

  • +2

It wouldn’t surprise me if the pricing label disappeared after you left. I bought some Bacardi rum, at a good price, from Dans one day. They honoured the price but removed the label and walked off with it.

  • Nice.

  • +11

    cheaper than hand sanitiser

    • What percentage is it? Needs to be better than 70% alcohol.

      • 38% by volume - good enough at $23 a bottle

        • Not good enough for hand sanitiser, though.

          • +9

            @try2bhelpful:

Not good enough for hand sanitiser, though.

            Just use all 3 bottles.

            38% x 3 = 114%

            114% > 70%

            I math!

            • @MrPants: Hmm, however if you drink all three bottles you won’t be in any condition to go out so you don’t need the sanitiser.

  • +1

Probably was meant to be 2 for $69.90 but take it while you can!

  • Great deal thanks

  • +3

Russian Standard is a great Vodka, so so smooth

  • +2

people like this, i didnt. I mix it tho so i dont think im entitled to an opinion

    • +1

you do you! who gives a hoot what people think is acceptable, it's your personal taste and values that they have no control over.
Mix it up y'all life is too short!

    • What do you mix it with, other than oj? I put some cinnamon in my Aldi Vodka, now major regret lol

      • +2

Not sure about others but lemon lime bitters, redbull or solo works well

        • Cheers will give those a go. Lots of time to try different things…

      • Haha what on Earth. Cinnamon goes well with apple, try mixing it with cloudy apple juice. Vodka is super versatile. Pull out the old google: vodka mixers.

        • That's an interesting one, with apple. Nah google results are too US-centric, would like to know what people on this website do.

      • Cranberry juice is a great mix with Vodka.

        • Would try that out too :)

  • People upvoting aren’t all buying it right? Only available at Dubbo?

    • +3

No not only ay Dubbo, picked this up at Dan's in Springvale VIC as advertised.

  • -3

    Cheap hand sanitizer

  • Time to drink Vodka now

    • +4

Yeah, get sanitised from the inside.

      • -1

Hold it in your mouth for one minute it'll definitely kill the virus lol

  • +1

could only get 2 (Dubbo), did the 2 bottles for $46.00n in line with add…happy with that

  • +1

Didn't know liquid shops are essential.

    • +2

We all need to intake liquids.

  • great for external application

  • +4

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but according to my calculations, excise paid to the government on this is $69.34. Not much profit for anyone else.

    700ml x 3 = 2.1l

    2.1l x 0.38 (% alcohol) = .798 litres of alcohol

    .798 x $86.90 (excise rate as of 03/02/2020) = $69.34

    • Clearance?

    • +1

so the $30 aldi vodka has $23 in taxes and the booze itself only costs $7? that's rich!

      • +1

The Aldi vodka is (only) 37% alcohol, so it would be slightly less in excise- $22.50. I did forget to also add the GST to my initial calculation. In the case of the Aldi Vodka, you're looking at $2.73 of included GST, so we're now looking at less than $5.

        • That's about how much it costs in Aldi overseas.

      • +3

Travel somewhere that doesn’t indulge itself with a sin tax (probably not right now though) and you’d be surprised how cheap booze and cigarettes actually are.

In Jamaica I went to a bar where it was $1 USD cheaper to get a double rum and coke than it was a rum and coke, because the expensive part of the drink was the coke.

      • You forgot $3 GST

    • Thank you! Never heard of LAL. I learned something new today about alcohol :)

      • +1

…and I've probably forgotten something today because of alcohol!

  • +1

Good old erasmus days with this vodka in Prague, CZ.. anyway is there any chance I can get this deal in Wollongong?

  • +1

    nice post bud

  • +3

    да!

  • I love this stuff - mix it with various SodaSteam zero sugar flavours to get a low calorie tanking

  • Fantastic can make some hand sanitizer out of this

  • +1

    First post

Great first post! Shows it pays to keep your eyes open.

  • Very nice vodka IMO.

My brother got a 1ltr while on an overseas trip long time ago (duty free).
Suffice to say, it didn't last long, and this was the best I had so far.

When I looked into this brand then (their website), they had 3 options/price points, but not sure if all 3 are imported to Aust at the time.
Haven't tried any above $50 AU yet.

Didn't mind the skull vodka thou.

  • +1

Meanwhile in WA we're only allowed to buy 1L of spirit per day :\

  • Visited my local store in Point Cook VIC but they declined to honor.. any suggestions Of how I can utilize the offer 😈
