Handmade Shell Vase - Was $35.00, Now $19.95!

16

Hey guys, my girlfriend is studying for her HSC soon, and decided to start a small website to try and get some cash for study accessories (A 'folder' is $200… crazy =). So I have got it up and running for her, and there are a handful of items available, we tried advertising on Facebook (not paid, but word of.. mouth?), got to 90+ likes, but still no sales. Due to this we decided to drop prices for a few days to see if anyone was interested in the products, and I just thought I would post it here, the items are all 100% handmade/collected, obviously the glass isn't forged in her backyard :P. The product prices are listed below, along with links.

If I have made any mistakes here, please feel free to edit/delete, it is my first deal as a 'REP' and don't want to leave a bad impression, as it is hard enough to get attention on the internet as it is, except Broden it seems =.

OK, here we go:

Shell Vase - was $35.00, now $19.95.
Fairy Lights Shell Vase - was $40.00, now $34.95
Wicket Ball Fairy Lights - was $25.00, now $19.95

Shipping is automatically calculated through the Australia Post online calculator, and pickup is available if in the immediate area (Gold Coast/Tweed).

Payment is via internet banking, please pay via this method even if picking up, just for security reasons which I am sure you guys can appreciate, mostly because I am not there. And if your order is above $50, you are able to pay via Paypal.

There is not much in stock, as cash is hard to come by at the moment, and funds are quite low, but if an order is placed, the item will be made and shipped within a few days (Might be a slight delay due to her exams currently, and me being in New Zealand studying until December).

Ok, I hope that is alright, please feel free to provide constructive feedback and any questions will be answered as soon as I read them.

EDIT:

If anyone is interested in finding out about future deals feel free to register on the website and sign up to the newsletter, which I will start if enough people are interested, not sure if Facebook pages are allowed to be posted here though, I won't post it as a precaution, but search for Tranquil Design if interested!

You can get the ABN by doing a WHOIS on the domain — at least it gives us shaw's sole trader ABN.

From your display picture it looks like you have a child and yet you have a 'girlfriend' who is starting HSC?

Also, those reviews look fake and the website looks very fishy.

    • It is my sister…

Also, those reviews look fake and the website looks very fishy.

"I now use this as my bedside lamp, it's such a great alternative. it's bright enough to read with and the light setting set a mood in my room. I LOVE THIS VASE SO MUCH!" - SAM

"This vase is absolutely stunning!!! I could spend hours admiring it! " - Manelle

      very dodgy…

      • +2

They all look as if they were written by the same person and all say how move they 'love' the lamps.

        • You seem to have something against the tendency of school-aged people to use similar phrases, the items sold so far are to friends of my girlfriend, as such, school-aged people they are. Such is why the reviews contain similar terms, we all know how school yard politics and habits work, that is off topic.

        • +1

If they were indeed sold to your girlfriend's friends then why does one comment say how the product 'arrived in the mail'?

I just think you're spinning up a whole lot of crock.

        • +1

the items sold so far are to friends of my girlfriend

and you don't see the conflict of interest posting these are real reviews without disclosing the buyers were her friends ????

        • You didn't consider the fact that she moved away recently and has friends in more than one location? I am sure the majority of people here have friends that live in locations now close enough to visit them to pickup a single item, think about it.

        • ^^ Another very valid point (jv)

        • I don't see where in the rules it states that "all past item buyers must be proven and identified", that just wouldn't work. You wouldn't go to a local store and say "show me all of your previous buyers as I don't trust your products. If you don't want to buy anything, then don't, if someone does, they will receive their item, it's as simple as that, I am not here to scam, would jail be worth a few bucks? Again, THINK ABOUT IT.

        • I don't see where in the rules it states that "all past item buyers must be proven and identified"

you just admitted above the reviewers are her friends… so there is a conflict of interest…

that comes under deceptive and misleading advertising…

        • There is a difference between purchasing goods from your local store and sending money online to someone who has had no previous buyers but for their friends.

        • The reviews are user submitted with no moderation necessary, they could have come from anyone, I assume that since a few of her friends purchased the items, then the reviews came from them, but they could have come from anywhere.

        • So I just tried submitting a review and got:

"Thank you for your review. It has been submitted to the webmaster for approval."

          Another lie.

        • so… changing your story now ???

          above

the items sold so far are to friends of my girlfriend

          now

I assume that since a few of her friends purchased the items

before you were sure, now, you're not so sure… obviously we should not rely on what you say here too much…

        • I don't see where the first 'lie' came from, I have justified every attack that you have attempted. The fact that they are disabled by default is to stop flooding, and to prevent abuse of the system. Reviews will not, however be edited for content, if there is a bad review, it will be enabled just as a good one would be, there is no checking of content unless there is an absurd amount of reviews(spam/flooding) from a single user. Anyway, don't like it, don't buy it, I have better things to do that to read your moaning and groaning, bye.

        • All you're doing is making up excuse after excuse. You say something, I find a contradiction, and miraculously it is because of this other reason.

    • +1. While the post is worded carefully it's still ultimately just spam and the "testimonials" definitely push it over the threshold of dodginess.

      • Unfortunately Opencart does not provide IP addresses from the user/s who post each review, if it were possible I would screenshot/copy paste this information for you, they are all legitimate, I have no way of proving this unfortunately.

        • +1

why would someone who hasn't bought from you post a review ???

you stated earlier that all the items sold so far were to her friends…

  • +1

    Payment is via internet banking…

    say goodbye to your money????

Sorry, but leave the beach, on the beach. Don't take it home by the bucket full and try to sell it.

    • You've got to admit he is on to something.

  • +2

I live right near the beach on the east coast and there are signs saying not to take shells etc.

    • +1

      http://www.qldbeaches.com/caring.html

Collecting shells from beaches in Queensland is strongly discouraged. Beaches located in Marine National Parks have a total ban on the removal of anything from the area.
Removal of shells disturbs the fragile ecosystem and detracts from the beauty of the area.

doesn't sound like a socially responsible thing to do, destroy ecosystems to make a dollar…

      • here! here! unless it's iron ore, coal seam gas, gold, uranium, coal, etc then it's ok!

      • If you could please provide me with the relevant link to the NSW government website, I will remove the two infringing items immediately.

    • Majority were brought from the east coast, and the store informed her that they were from around there. And the shells that were taken from a beach (the items with 1 of each in stock, the 2 mobiles) there was no such sign, if there was I would have immediately removed the items. I am currently looking for NSW regulations on shell collecting but can only find information for marines reserves, if you could please provide me with a link to the appropriate government agency that states that collecting shells at low levels for small gain is illegal, I will remove the items immediately.

      • Even if it is legal, no one is going to buy from you some shells that you collected from a beach. And a small gain? You basically stringed together some shells you got for free and are selling them for $6.

        • No, the majority of the shells were purchased, as simple as that.

The 2 items that weren't, I will remove them to avoid any further conflict.

      • +1

collecting shells at low levels for small gain is illegal,

you aren't collecting.. you are making a business out of a natural resource that does not belong to you… that is wrong

        • "No, the majority of the shells were purchased, as simple as that.

The 2 items that weren't, I will remove them to avoid any further conflict."

        • "you aren't collecting.. you are making a business out of a natural resource that does not belong to you… that is wrong"

not that im disagreeing, but have you noticed this 'mining boom' going on….perhaps the 'shell boom' is next

    • I assume you're local beach is a marine reserve?
But I don't believe you're allowed to take coastal shells/rocks/etc in NSW for commercial gain without a permit.

This looks more like an Ad then a bargain.

      • If it is deemed an ad, the mods are more than capable of removing it, and I would completely understand. I am just trying to help my GF out, as some items have sold already in the past week, which lead us to believe that the prices weren't unreasonable, but we decided to drop the prices anyway to try and get rid of the stock.

And please read my post above about the collection of shells, only 2 items contain shells hand collected from beaches, the rest are purchased from a local store.

        • +1

Hm..you said on the description "we tried advertising on Facebook (not paid, but word of.. mouth?), got to 90+ likes, but still no sales. Due to this we decided to drop prices for a few days to see if anyone was interested in the products"

But now you are saying that she has already sold some items in th past week. LOL

        • He is digging the hole deeper and deeper…

        • Yea, I am referring to the fact that we go no sales through Facebook, I am keeping an eye on the traffic through Google Analytics, the sales came from elsewhere, word of mouth as one possibility.
