Free Online Courses and Certification Exams in 6 x Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Disciplines

250

For the next 45 days, Oracle is offering free access to online courses and official examination vouchers through Pearson Vue for 6 of their most popular Cloud Certification Pathways including:

  • Oracle Autonomous Database Specialist
  • Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Foundations Associate
  • Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Cloud Operations Associate
  • Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Developer Associate
  • Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Architect Associate
  • Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Architect Professional

With data centres now in Melbourne and Sydney, there is increasing local demand for OCI certified consultants. Irrespective of what you may think of Oracle (and full disclosure - I work there, but love the revised culture and efforts towards changing our perception among customers), it's rare to get free access to first party course material and examinations so strike while the iron is hot - having official certifications like these on your resume can only bolster your career prospects once all this craziness blows over.

Which one would be highly regarded out of the list, or which one should we do first if we can't get through all of them?

    • +7

IMO, if your not sure, then do either of these: AWS or Azure

Would definitely go Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Architect Associate if you could only do 1. Architect Professional next.

Both will give you a broad understanding of the core infrastructure services, as well as touch on database and some of the developer features.

  • Is anyone using oracle cloud?

    • +1

Oracle is still a niche player same as IBM, not too many I guess. The leaders are AWS, MS Azure and Google

i tried to use it - by spinning up some instances - the process was so convoluted - even trying to setup ssh sessions - i had to contact their support which was very poor

Yeah, without a doubt AWS and Azure in particular have a larger footprint, but we are growing rapidly with the release of our second generation cloud (droodle: you may have tried to deploy in our first generation cloud which was indeed… rubbish. What happens when database guys try to build a cloud. We pinched a whole lot of senior folk from AWS, Azure and Google to build OCI and as an ex-AWS customer, I find it far more intuitive). There are many out there with AWS and Azure certs on their resume, this is still a niche area to be fair, but the growth is happening, and our customers are on the lookout for certified architects and engineers.

  • OP do you have anything on OEBS?

    • Sorry Sergeant - just OCI related courses at this stage.

  • "Step 3: Register and take your free certification exam. If you have a PearsonVue account, log in."
I register only to see that will cost me 220 Euro to take the exam, while you state in the promotion link that will be free to take the exams. On your announcement page -"reducing the pricing for the certification exams and providing training content free of charge to help you learn Oracle Cloud Infrastructure and get certified! "
I really want to extend my knowledge, but also to have proof with certificate, but sadly can't afford it. I have when good courses are provided for free, but the certificate is still full price.

    • Awesome mate, that's good to hear. The exams are most certainly free… but you need to click on them through the learning pathways on Oracle University which will embed the 100% discount on the exam.

      • Still a struggle. I am going through the lectures but it doesn't let me attempt the questionnaire in between the lectures. Because of this the status of the course remain as incomplete

  • Such a wonderful program, have completed the foundation course and clear the exam to get the certification, very happy with the first experience.

But now it's like a joke… have studied another course for autonomous database and try to book exam (15-20 times), it shows available date/time, but at the final checkout step, errors out with message the slot is not available. No way to contact support, tried phone/chat etc.. no response.

And now from today, suddenly they removed all free exams from catalogue. Before clicking through the exam link from Oracle course pathways, it was allowing to book the exam (but without success), but now the promo link is not working at all.

It was suppose to be free till 15th…. I have studied hard and looks like I will have to pay if I want to get certificate now…

    • Yeah, that's not good - I'll ask the Oracle University team and see what's happening.

  • Realised this expires in a few days, so I've followed the links to sign up for the exams while that works.

However the available dates were months away, so likely would need access to review the content after this deal expires, do we know if these pathways remain free?

    • +1

I think once you subscribe to the learning pathway it stays available… but I'm not 100% sure, sorry.

  • Do you have any plan to extend these courses and certificates

    • Hi John - I don't think there are any plans at this stage. The campaign was far more successful than anticipated and actually placed great strain on Pearson Vue's remote proctoring service. The announcement that Zoom chose OCI for their rapid scale-up during Covid only added to the madness. I think it was a great outcome for both Oracle and those who redeemed the offer, so hopefully we'll see it again… I'll be sure to post it if/when I hear news.
