New Site Design

I have some feedback on the new site design.
The NEW box that tells you when there is new comments; I found that easier to see when it was over the right hand side like previous, I do like the new look of it though

        • For login, you can click on the Login link to go straight to the dedicated login page, which then your password manager would take over, if it does not work with popups.

Meanwhile I'll see whether work out some alternatives.

    • The colours aren't that bad, maybe it's your monitor config?
The rest of the site is still some shade of orange so it still looks like OZB to me.

      • The colours aren't that bad, maybe it's your monitor config?

Seen through many monitors. Sometimes, though, a colour that looks good in small quantities doesn't look so good when used in large quantities. Sometimes it can be the contrast difference between two perfectly fine colours that bites.

It's not that bad but it's a little jarring wrt the rest of the site imo.

  • Avatars seem to be broken ???

Tried both IE and Firefox so it doesn't seem to be the browser…

  • Voting seems to have broken too ??? :(

edit: voting is working now, but no avatars still…

    • Still broken? Avatar is provided by gravatar.com so maybe some issue with their services.

      • Saw same thing last night, but back to normal now

      • working fine now…

  • Posted this in the suggestions sticky on the 1st, but looks like it is not visited anymore.

I like the new design, especially preferences.

Any chance of adding preference options to:
    1. Not show expired deals in new deals or searches
    2. Not show removed deals
    3. Show searches in date order. It makes it easier to find a dupe before posting. I don't search enough to remember the convention, so I always have to search help first to find what term to use so it shows search results by date.

Also any chance you can make the link to go visit deals open in a new tab. usually look at the deal before deciding to vote on it, but occasionally forget to open in new tab. So by the time I finish poking around it's not easy to get back to the ozbargain page I came from. If the ozbargain page was still open it would encourage more people to vote on the deal after visiting it.

    Thanks,

    Pete

    • scroll wheel click/two finger tap opens link in new tab

    • There's option for that, in your settings page…

  • What happened to the nice plain text thread update messages? :(

    • i only noticed after ur reply

      perhaps
      - bold the thread title
      - unbold last comment by username
      - add some spacing or HR before the "this is an automatic message …"

      • The readability issue is one thing. The lack of a link to copy and paste (outside of anything that talks HTML) is another.

Could've at least added the old style as a text/plain component of the email.

        Sigh. :/

        • Oh, I found it confusing when I read the comment summary, and just below it is the whole comment.
Might as well just remove the summary from it

      • Thanks for your feedback. I'll fix up the formatting in the version with teasers.

      • bold the thread title, unbold last comment by username

Isn't this already the case? If it's not, would you be so kind to upload a screenshot please?

I found it confusing when I read the comment summary, and just below it is the whole comment. Might as well just remove the summary from it.

That was what the plain text version had, but I've now updated the HTML version to show one or the other, not both.

    • +1

There is discussion about it in this thread

  • Could stickied threads please also have an alternate "yellow-ed" version that indicates that there is a new post? =)

    • "Stickied threads" as in those in the forums? Number of new comments should already show up under "Replies" like other threads.

  • Congratulations to Ozbargain and Scotty as today is Ozbargain's 5th Anniversary.

New site design looks great :)

  • How do you navigate the 'Deals' and 'My Account' drop down menus on a touch screen (Tablet).

    • Yeah touch screen requires some special hacks. At least on Android you can press "Deals" and drag your finger away — the popup will then show. Not ideal, but works for now.

      • scotty, i find that having an extra js include file when a touch screen device is detected works best.
for any elements which have a hover handler, add some sort to "touch toggle" to either accompany or replace the original hover functionality.
