Qantas Credit Card Bonus Points - Fast & < $99 Annual Fee

Currently have the westpac qantas black + amex bundle therefore likely not going to pass a credit check for another 15k+ limit card.
But im about 15k off the 150,000 Qantas points club which is due at the end of the financial year June 30 (read about it here https://www.qantas.com/au/en/frequent-flyer/status-and-clubs…)
so looking into <$99 annual fee credit cards that will get my qantas points over the line before June 30.

HSBC and Macquarie platinum both have 20,000 bonus points with $99 annual fee on offer atm.
anyone had either of them, and thoughts on that? eg. credit check process, how long till the points got transferred, insurance policy etc.
Any alternative options that are better?

Like to know your thoughts, ty!

This might be a problem for you with this one, "The bonus points will be credited to your points balance within 12 weeks after the eligible spend criteria is met"

Or switch to Red Energy: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/519675

  • You won't get bonus points by June with any credit card. It will take 1-2 weeks to get approved & receive the card, then another 2-3 months minimum to spend the required amount. Even then you won't receive the bonus points straight away.

    • Good point but my last experience with the westpac is i spent the min spend in the first month and got credited shortly after the first statement came through so was hoping one of those cards did the same.

With Citibank and Westpac if you need spending criteria in the first month they will credit you the points when your first statement is issued.

  • Have you looked at the bonuses you can get with phone plans, health insurance, wine clubs, etc?

    • pretty locked in atm but ty!

  • Definitely wine, you can get up to 12k points per case, admitting they are expensive, but worth it for the points if thats what you need.

My experience with Amex is that they credit the points same-month if you meet the spending criteria that month.

    • yes agree, same experience. no excellent deals atm though imo! cheers though
