  • Do you guys think we'll see 32gb as the new norm in the next 5y? Wondering if I should get 2x8 or 1x16 to future proof.

    • Will you ever overclock this machine?

Edit: Just realised that if you're buying RAM this slow that you don't care about about overclocking. Just buy the 2 x 8gb for the dual channel performance increase. If you want more down the track it'll either be cheaper or roughly the same price, and until then you don't need it (and probably won't before the machine is redundant).

for gaming doubt you will need 32, they put the textures inside the gpu now, thats why gpu vrams are getting really big now.

but then again industry will keep pushing for bigger sizes gradually, they want to make profits after all, eg samsung putting 16gb inside a phone lol… quick guys make your apps more bloated so there is a need for this ram!

2x8 is more than enough for almost anything at the moment unless you decide to game and compile at the same time for some reasons.
If you get 1x16 you'll be gimped with single channel and by the time you want to upgrade, your 16GB stick may be quite obsolete.
Just stick with 2x8 for now.
It's hard to say in 5yrs but applications are getting more and more wasteful in RAM usage so 32GB may be the norm at some point. But by then we should see DDR5 in mainstream anyways.

    • I've been using 32G@3600MHz for almost 3 years. G.Skill, Samsung B die FYI.

  • just get 16gb, theyre producing ddr5 this year

DDR5 adoption will start in 2 years time at the earliest imo.
Next year the 4000 AMD CPUs will use DDR4 still on the mainboards, so it will be the generation after that at the earliest that DDR5 will be adopted.

  • I bought 16gb 3200mhz Corsair Vengeance LPX for $117 last month. I feel cheated now

Is this like the last few times this was posted? Where they can’t deliver to any addresses?

    • Fixed a couple days ago.

  • Noob question: Can I use this to replace my current RAM on my Macbook Pro 2011? Currently have in place 2x4GB 1333Mhz DDR3

Argh bought this as well. 48GB in 24hrs lols. Predicting demand is going to keep going up as it will take at least another 3 months for things to return to normal.

  • Is this AMD ryzen compatible? I.e x570 motherboards?

    Thannks

    • Yes it is. But worth checking to see if your specific mobo will work with it.

      • it is the MSI MPG X570 Gaming Edge Wifi.

I've been looking at the specs and see intel compatible but not ryzen. I also remember when I bought my ram which is the same as this, I had to pay a little more because it was an AMD build and therefore the ram package had AMD logo on it instead of Intel.

        thanks

        • It doesn't matter. As long as it's DDR4 Desktop RAM it's fine.

  • I've got 4 sticks of 4GB 2133mhz and a Ryzen 1500x. I can't seem to OC this ram and its SpecTek chips too which are the worst of the worst apparently.
    Is this worth the upgrade???

    • I would if I was you and it wouldn't put you out financially. Worst case, you would have 24gb in your system running 2133Mhz.

I'm going to be bumping up my proxmox box from 32gb to 48gb and add more VMs on it.

    • 2133 to 2666? No

  • Does anyone need one 8GB? I need one to slot in the dual channel, already have 8GB in it.

Anyone in Sydney, who would like to go halves, PM me please.

    • You should have matching pairs. your best bet is to buy a pair and on-sell your existing RAM.

I hope to see 16gb of 3200 CL16 or 3000 CL15 at a good price some time soon.

Damn it you all. Was just about to purchase this yesterday and now it's sold out :(

    • I bought it a couple days ago when it was 84. Overnight, it dropped to 82.9 or so, and I cancelled and reordered. Then throughout the day the ram kept on dropping price, couple cents at a time. So I cancelled my second order and finally placed on at the current price.

    • you can still get 4gb sticks for similar price…

Was trying to buy exactly this Friday last week and kept getting the 'cannot be delivered to your address' error. Now apparently they fixed that and it's sold out already? :'(

    • You think that's bad, I've been going back and forth with Amazon support including phone calls for 3 weeks about ordering this, and now I find out it's been fixed and sold out. A very angry e-mail going to Amazon regarding this today.
