  • +1 for magnetic tip.

FYI, your title doesn't technically state what the item is (ie. an impact driver bit)…

The 57mm version is reduced in price also https://www.bunnings.com.au/irwin-impact-pro-performance-57m… $2.60 down from $3.98.

    • Got both, thanks :)

    • the longer, the better… you know.

I use these, they are about as good as Bunnings gets for heads.

These bits are rubbish! Yet i still buy them sometimes then regret it lol

Just make sure you use the right size tip for the right philips head screw. If your tips are breaking then you need a bigger size as the tip is not engaging properly with the indentations in the screw head.

Also might be factor if the screws are PZ/Pozidriv/JIS. People look at a "cross" screw and think its Philips.

        • +2

          JIS is the best.

          • @brendanm: Most underrated commented on OzB

@brendanm: Lol. Not when they strip on an import JDM car / bike and have to drop out the engine to use an Ezyout.
Then again its an excuse to rebuild the engine since its out.. :)

            • +1

@pegasusx: They only strip because people use the evil and inferior Phillips drivers with them. Henry Phillips should hang his head in shame.

              • +2

@brendanm: They're designed to strip so amateurs dont overtighten them…

              • @brendanm: Phillips is about protecting the workpiece and the tool. At the time the thought process was to destroy the cheapest part, the fastener.

Phillips was invented at a time materials were expensive and labour cheap. Now materials are cheap and labour expensive, so more labour-friendly heads (with more expensive tooling) are around like torx. Robertson lost out because he refused to license, so ford went with Phillips

We also have clutches in our drivers etc so camming out shouldn't really be a concern.

Pozidriv is pretty popular on Europe and doesn't can out as hard. It's on lots of ikea stuff

Anyone have a link or review for the top end bits that last long and don’t cost and arm and a leg?

  • Sydney tools has a 32bit set for only $15
I've only used the Torx T20 bit briefly so far, but its worked pretty well.

    • "This product is currently unavailable". Ozbargained already?

      • I got it in store at Blackburn yesterday- there was plenty of stock at the time.
Maybe call ahead if you’re interested.

  • The below dewalt kit can be had for under $20 if you look around. The magnetic slip over collars are fantastic for keeping screws level when working at odd angles with limited access.
