  • Need much more detail

    • You have to compare commercial with commercial. How much does JB Hi-Fi commercial sell this for?

      • $235.87 for JB commercial. Wish I had access to Good Guys, looks a very good deal. Looks like Harvey Norman had it for $199 not long ago.

Unless you're planning to add access points, DAP1820 units as per the link, (immediately or in the future) you'll get no benefit from a mesh router.
A single access point does not a mesh network make.

Is it possible to add other D-Link router as node like ASUS AIMesh or only specific AP?

    • what about the signal strength for router itself , i have small 3 bedrooms house
cause the d-link archer vr1600v come with TPG nbn ist not really functional

      • The signal strength of the single router is not influenced by it's mesh capabilities.
However, if you wanted to get this one, then say if the signal wasn't to your liking you could add the mesh APs at a later time.
If it was OK, you wouldn't need to spend any more money.
For a small 3 bedroom house, my personal opinion is that you don't need a mesh setup.

        • I disagree with this - I live in a 2 bedroom apartment with my router (DLink DSL-2888a) located in the top of a cupboard pretty much central to the whole apartment. The second bedroom/home office is on the other side of a fully tiled bathroom and the WiFi connection was very flaky in there, to the point where the WiFi card in my desktop couldn't maintain a connection even with upgraded antennas.

I put in a Netgear Orbi setup in such a way that the mesh backhaul bounces around the offending bathroom and it gives much faster and more stable connection into that room. I had previously tried PowerLine adapters for the desktop but they were pretty useless here, despite being good at my old place - new wiring must be poor.

TL;DR: the usefulness of mesh depends on the topology of your home and can be useful in small places if there are structural elements that hamper your WiFi

          • @Domingo: I made an assumption that @petros0 didn't have any specific conditions like this.
Fact remains that a single access point's signal strength around an area is not influenced by it's mesh capabilities. The mesh only comes into play with multiple APs.

@deva22: I know and agree - I upvoted your first comment in this thread where you said that, as it is useful and true.

              • @Domingo: Hey, all good. Guess I came across defensive, oops sorry. Haha.

            • +1

@deva22: Whilst I agree with what you're saying, I can't find any info on the Antenna signal strength/power output of these D-Link routers, and my cynical side wonders if the signal output may be down a little from what it would be in a non smart mesh router in order to "encourage" the purchase of additional range extenders.

@Global Nomad: Certainly a possibility, unscrupulous such things are not uncommon these days in my experience.

    • Can this be turned into AP or as the main router for other branded mesh system ? Thanks.

  • Would anyone happen to know how much the Orbi RBK20 is on Good Guys Commercial?

I've been trying to source this recently and the price has shot up from $288 to $350 in most places.

    • $229 for the Orbi RBK20-100AUS

      • Oh wow. Great price! Its actually $370 on the regular GG site.

Would anyone be kind enough to do a click n collect for me? Probably a big ask. I've been after this system for quite a while.

        • I am happy to help if I can..

        • Looks like you are Brisbane
          Happy to help you

          • @petros0: I'm actually in Melbourne now. :(

            • @gareth886: Just heading to work now , PM me this afternoon and I will get you one , just use paypal as friends and family so I don’t get charged

  • The modem/router given to my from TPG keeps dropping out every second day.
Any suggestions on how to stop this from happening.
I have turned off the wifi function on it and use Tenda mesh thingy for wifi connection.

    • A lot of the time its heat build up. Try putting a fan on it

  • How do u get an account?

    • Union shopper

      • Is that the only way? :(

        • Join your union. There's never been a better time, and you might even get a fee waiver.

        • You could also sign up to the g'day rewards membership as part of the discovery park membership program which is open to all and might be useful if you do camping/retreats etc. https://www.discoveryholidayparks.com.au. I believe the membership is $50 for 2 years (i got mine last year). Once you get g'day membership you then need to fill a online form and link your account with good guys commercial which takes about 3-5 working days -> https://www.gdayrewards.com.au/partners/g-day-rewards-partne…

      • Hi, just to confirm, joining Union Shopper allows access to TGG Commercial? Never used it before. Thanks.

        • All sorted thanks, panic over :)

  • Would anyone be willing to organise a click and collect for me in Adelaide?

  • Would anyone be willing to organise a click and collect for me in Sydney?

  • Same price at Computer Alliance. No doubt plus delivery.

    https://www.computeralliance.com.au/search?search=dir-1960

    • But the satellites are also still c. $200 each.

I went for the Orbi RBK23 recently, and it's been a great improvement on the no-name Kogan APs I had in previously. Not 100% seamless but I do recommend them

      • See, I'm trying to decide between the RBK23 or spend the extra money on the RBK50. Why did you choose the RBK23 over RBK50?

  • Do Bunnings do pricebeat for their order in stuff?

    https://www.bunnings.com.au/d-link-exo-ac1900-smart-mesh-wi-…

    $199 at office works

  • I don’t have a commercial account, if anyone could get one for me in Brisbane I’d be grateful. I can paypal or cash . Tahnks!

  • I'm in WA if anyone is willing to help please :)
