    Great game!

It really is great. First card based video game I've ever liked.

  • Didn't like it at all.

It might be that I don't get it. But I find the opportunity to build a worthwhile deck doesn't exist. With the few shops and randomization, i felt stuck with hands that didn't have particularly interesting synergy. You reach the heart before your deck gets interesting.

It can be somewhat difficult for first-timers but then you learn as you keep trying. Didn't take me a whole lot of time to learn the cards & deck-building with a bit of wiki.

      • I've run through it about 4 times. I can only do the first character. You just end up with too many junk cards. There isn't much opportunity to remove them either (even if you spend 100% of your gold to remove cards you have to survive a pathetic early and mid game deck)

If you want to take a card in hope another synergistic card comes up.. It either doesn't come up, or it comes too late.

Which wiki pages and I'll do some reading?

The key for a lot of strategy is that you don't take many cards in so that the deck can be efficient with a balance of ATT&DEF.

Look under Strategies which gives a lot of pointers & tips.

My first deck beating the heart was with Searing Blow Deck.

You have to roll with the punches on this game - eg it’s hard to set to get a specific build in case the cards don’t come.

          A few basic tips:

          1. Don’t always take cards if they Don’t fit your deck!
          2. Relics are possibly the most important thing especially if you get good ones. Look for opportunities to get more eg if you have good health take on an elite
          3. If you do find you get a lot of the same type of cards follow that and make a build eg poison or shiv for silent
          4. If you want to do big damage late in game look for cards that multiply damage, eg silent has a double or triple poison
          5. Always forge if you can, definitely if you are over 60% health and don’t have a boss coming
          6. Prioritise only cards that fit your build or relics at shops
          7. 0 cost cards can clog up your deck - esp if you are drawing to a maximum - beware
          8. For the watcher, mantra is amazing, if you can keep stacking that you’re in for some fun
          9. Don’t try and end fights quicker at the expense of health - most characters don’t heal automatically and it’s better to forge at rest sites - preserve health always
          10. If you can ditch basic strikes and defends do it - I usually try and ditch a strike when I’ve got a better attack
          11. Don’t underestimate potions. There’s a new relic that doubles potion effect - carnage!
    • it is much harder to build a cool deck compared to a something like Dominion that this is based on, but that's kind of the whole "charm" of roguelikes and the game does a good job of exploring all the fun things you couldn't really do with a physical deck of cards.

sometimes you have to let the luck of the draw dictate strategy to you more than you might like, but its still very possible to build a tight, synergistic deck.

would highly recommend trying the other characters too, they do feel very different.

Keep in mind that the console version does not get updated at the same time as the PC version. It took about 3 months for the latest update with the fourth character to make it to the console versions.

  • Can't recommend this highly enough. Probably my favourite game in a library of 300+ AAA games. Got this on PC and been waiting for a good switch price. If you enjoy strategy games, I recommend trying this.

Each game takes around 1hr, however it has amazing replayability with increasing difficulty as you get better.

  • Actually has been slightly cheaper before ($28 for physical from JB & Amazon) - but this is the sort of game I reckon is better having digital, so worth the extra 46c. :)

Great game, highly recommended. Although, I’m playing on Game Pass and waiting for the mobile port!
