Use your ER Extra 10% off b… oh wait

    • +2

Signup to email newsletter, $10 off a $75 ore more spend, for some of these games, that works out better than 10% off.

    • Point taken and hard agree but don’t think you could ever use ER discount for preorders or games before

      • You certainly could have used it on games, and in a couple of hours these will no longer be pre-orders.

      • -1

Ffs I preordered MKW for $98 after ER discount and now they sell it for $94. Fml

        Edit: PHEW

        Pre-order Price Guarantee
When you pay for your pre-order upfront and the price drops on release day you will be refunded the difference shortly after release.

Item will be available in Store and for Pick up after the release date.

Release date is subject to change

    • +1

i can already get BOTW :D why bother pre ordering it again!!

  • What games is everyone getting for their Switch 2 on release?

    • Mario Kart, Cyberpunk, Split Fiction, whatever the new Fast RMX is called, and I upgraded Hogwarts the other day too. Plus the Zelda upgrade edition things with NSO. Let's (profanity) go!

      • -1

        Mine are -

        Mario Kart
        Donkey Kong
        Hitman

How much was it to upgrade Hogwarts….$20? Same as Zelda?

        • +4

I'm keen on DK, but it's not a day one game. Hitman will be fun to be a pick up and go kind of game tbh (yes, I know it's on Steam Deck, yes, I have it on my Steam Deck, but that's not the same)

Hogwarts was 15 AUD. You can do it in game if you have the physical version, digital you just buy it on the store. I got lucky because I didn't own the game and ended up with a copy as part of something else I was buying, and intended to trade it in, but then they announced that and I quickly grabbed that too. You can "unlock" the 15 dollar version an unlimited number of times with a physical copy, so if you want the game but want to save money, go to EB, buy the Switch 1 version, "unlock" the 15 dollar Switch 2 version, then return the S1 game to EB.

          • @TheDukeOfNukem: Cool thanks
I have it on Switch 1 but digital so I will buy it for $15 when I get my Switch 2 tomorrow. Just go into eshop and buy it once I sign in with the same log in as my current switch correct?

Can’t seem to be able to buy the Hogwarts Legacy S2 upgrade now

          • +2

@TheDukeOfNukem: Are you sure about this…. Id imagine the $15 is an upgrade pack and still requires you to put the original game card in to play….

            • @JuryWheel: I just purchased the Hogwarts Legacy Switch 2 version for $14.95

Comes up as Hogwarts Legacy Switch 2 for $89.95 but then it’s discounted to $14.95. Doesn’t say anything about upgrade

              This is for digital version

              • @Twisty: On the e-shop now?

                • @JuryWheel: Yer up for pre order. It’s not a upgrade it’s the full switch 2 game for $14.95

I purchased it vis the web page

                  https://ec.nintendo.com/AU/en/titles/70010000095418

                  • @Twisty: Ah, didn't see that you already owned the switch 1 version (digital). It's coming up full price for me since I don't own it. Will look to buy a card version (maybe even borrow from the local library) and see if I can get the switch 2 version cheap and then sell/give back the s1 version

          • @TheDukeOfNukem: Any idea if any other games are offering a switch 2 version discount/deal for owners of the switch 1 versions like HL?

            • @JuryWheel: I’ve only see Hogwarts and the others are all upgrades

I’d like to know too if there is more

      • Very similar to me. I got mario kart, zelda upgrades through NSO and welcome tour tomorrow, then will be picking up fast fusion next Tuesday with 10% off eshop gift cards

        • 100% same here!

      • Hmm I never got Fast RMX on Switch, I should give that a spin next time it goes on sale.

    • +8

Considering any game that isn’t a ‘game key card’ or ‘code in a box’ (will not be buying any game under those)

Launch: Mario Kart World (and tinker with BC switch 1 backlog + NSO expansion stuff)

      &

Post Launch (short term) : Donkey Kong Banana split + Metroid Prime 4 (oh it’s been a long time since Wii’s Prime 3!)

Cyber punk I reckon will drop in price sooner or later. I’ll wait on that

      • -5

        good 4 u

      • Yeah, I just traded my old games and 7yr old switch for $800, that won’t work in the future with digital games so I’m with you

        • hmm, how many games did you trade in?

          • +1

@JohnSy: Given the abysmal trade in value now I'm guessing it was 40+ games

            • @Guybrush57: I wonder how many of those were 1st party games…which usually sell on ebay for about $45-$50 each.

              • @JohnSy: There is the convenience factor of just dumping all your stuff for instant guaranteed cash. That's worth a deduction to a certain degree.

              • @JohnSy: If they sell for $45 means you get $33-35 after shipping and fees

          • +2

@JohnSy: It was 29 I just checked, including some old PS5 games and switch games, the average trade value was $21-$35 for switch. PS5 $15-$40 some crappy ones there. Some switch games I got $21 for I thought were garbage. I couldn’t imagine selling them all 1 by 1 on eBay, posting them, for the sake of a few dollars I’m far too lazy

            • +1

@Onemoredeal: If you were done with them all then I think you did well except for the trade-in value of the console itself.

              • +1

@Guybrush57: The console was so old. In good nick, but I wouldn’t want to be responsible for it via a second hand sale on eBay. I definitely took the lazy route and just happy I ended up with a new console and two games for $9 change over

                • +1

@Onemoredeal: I'm happy if you're happy. I just hope you don't regret selling your collection. I know I have several times in my life. Switch 2 will have enhancements for some Switch 1 games and the list may increase over time.

                  • +1

@Guybrush57: I do this every new console I’m not a game hoarder I finish and move on.

      • +1

The game key once you have downloaded the game behaves like a regular cart, you can sell it on the second hand market too it isnt a one time activation thing locked to your account.

        • +1

          Good to know cheers

    • +2

      Bravely Default Remastered.

      Yakuza 0 Director's Cut.

I'm one of the ~dozen people who have never played BoTW or ToTK either (Though I own them from various sales) With the free upgrade from NSO+Expansion I imagine those two alone will keep me occupied for a few hundred hours.

      • Is bravely default good for a general gamer or is it nostalgic for you?

        • +1

No idea, I'm going in pretty blind! :P

I've heard it brought up now and then when it comes to good Square JRPG's

          • +1

@Stoibs: For that price I’ll go blind too I guess haha

            Thanks

            • +1

@NuttyGoodness: Bravely Default 1 is pretty good. The brave system is pretty unique imo, made the fights pretty flexible.
Good for general gamer, nothing overtly complicated until late game. I winged it at the end and managed to figure out a cheap strat to beat a lot of mobs.

The last 1/4 of the game is absolutely terrible. You have to repeat the world cycle so many times and it got boring to the point where it felt like the devs added it in to pad out the hours. Story was good though. Solid 7/10. There is a massive easter egg spoiler early game, but I won't spoil it for you.

              • @Blitzfx: Oh ok, thanks

I’d never heard of it and I haven’t even really played much square enix games apart from Nier: Automata but for the price it’s worth a look

      • +2

'There are dozens of us, dozens!'

        • +1

          Never nudes?

      • The free upgrade from NSO+ Expansion is great but I read of the sub expires then you loose that upgrade too?

        • Yeah seems likely =(

I'm on a family plan with 7 others so it's pretty cheap per annum at the moment.
I do wonder if Nintendo are going to jack this up at some point though..

          • +1

@Stoibs: Yer family plan is great for you. I think l just buy the upgrades so u have them for ever

Another thing I wish Nintendo would allow is the ability to buy the N64, SNES and the new Gamecube games outright like you can on PlayStation. I like the idea of a sub thing like Gamepass PSNPlus and NSO Expansion but just wish they also had the option to buy games individually

      • +1

I'll admit I was given ToTK and I haven't played it yet. That was two Christmas's ago though…

        • Still nice and sealed 😁

    • +1

Civ VII, Fast Fusion, MK World, Cyberpunk

      Donkey Kong next month.

I also have a massive Switch 1 library still. I’ll get a few of the upgrades for existing titles.

    • None for me. It'll likely just stay in the box until I find a really good deal on the games.

Only reason I preordered was to get launch day firmware, to make hacking it easier when it's eventually hacked.

      • And if you find a really good deal on games what then? The games will force an update.

        • Not launch games, unless the switch 2 requires a constant Internet connection?

Honestly never used a switch before. I'm fine just keeping it in the box and waiting until it gets hacked if I have to though.

          • @mahdoo: Needs internet to set up then forces an update I believe.

            • +1

@Guybrush57: From what I've read, An update is only required to get switch 1 game compatibility and express sd card support. Not for day 1 switch 2 games.

Though day 1 update should be safe anyway, so I guess I'll take it out of the box on day 1, update and then put it on airplane mode permanently from there.

If for whatever reason the console prevents me from playing games offline - back to the box it goes until it gets hacked.

  • I saw these deals when they first came live last night but I didn't post it because they were online only and no-one would get them on time.

EDIT: Looks like they are still online only :/

  • les go Amazon, price match this sh#t

    • Doesn't look like it, Amazon price match BigW automatically don't they? Or do they have a room full of people who do it manually… https://www.amazon.com.au/Mario-Kart-World-Nintendo-Switch/d…

      • I thought it was automated but Bug W's prices have been up since last night yet Amazon still haven't updated theirs.

        • +1

they just updated it looks like, its now $94, same-day delivery with prime.

  • Will Amazon price match? My car is in the shop and I don't want to get an uber or a bus just to go to the shops. Oh this is online delivery only anyway..

    • looks like they just did within the last hour, mario kart world is now $94 on the amazon product page.

      https://www.amazon.com.au/Mario-Kart-World-Nintendo-Switch/d…

      • I ordered through Officeworks anyway for same day delivery, but it doesn't matter because Telstra haven't even shipped preorders yet. I'll just have to experience it bicuriously through YouTube.

  • See you on the marketplace.

  • +2

Wow … $94 for a Nintendo Game is now a deal? Are they really that good that everyone pays these prices?

    • +3

I remember people complaining that xbox 1 games were $100.

    • +2

IMO no it is not worth the asking price

      • I'm torn - strongly agree that Nintendo will make money hand over fist regardless of the price, but given the always increasing complexity of games should there not be price increases reflecting that? We see price increases all the time for day to day goods

        • +1

No doubt the games will sell, they are still cheaper than 90s prices, however there is no justification for a price rise.

They sell more copies than before and distribution costs are lower than ever.

          • @greatlamp: The only thing I can think of with Nintendo raising prices is that it means smaller publishers can raise their prices too, so maybe letting them get a bit more of a return?

            • +1

@AnonyL: Maybe, but why assume there is a justification at all when it doesn't seem reasonable?

They sold 150 million switch consoles. It's the best selling console of all time. It is the legal responsibility of the board of a publicly listed company to act in the interests of shareholders and maximise profits.

In this situation if they didn't raise prices they would be acting irresponsibility as clearly they have more demand than they need.

What the loud minority complaining about price rises on social media think is irrelevant, the facts say the prices can be increased without harming profit - so they will be.

        • They sold over 70 million copies of Mario Kart 8, that's seven billion dollars at $100 a pop. So why does it need to be $120 now? How many billions does it take to make a single game?

          • @AustriaBargain: You can blame Miyamoto for that. He doesn't believe in devaluing the work that the developers have made, even though the initial investment and profit period has long passed.

  • Officeworks have dropped their price on MKW to match.

    • Est Tue 10 Jun

Though when you select delivery it says 5th of June, so I'll try that. Amazon still says "June 6 - 10".

  • Don't forget Street Fighter doesn't include the actual game. License key only. When Nintendo shuts down the store your game is gone forever.

    • +3

Also the characters are DLC codes. Worst of two bad worlds.

    • This seems to be the case for about 2/3 of third party games, trawling through EBs store listings. Stacks of keycard titles.

    • +2

You can still download games from their stores on your wii, 3ds, wii u, ps3, psp, ps vita, xbox 360 from your original accounts for any games you have purchased or activated. So far I'd say the chance before the downloads are taken offline are as likely as your discs or carts rotting. And by then I dont know why you would care when all of these have alternate hacked stores or ways to backup your digital downloaded games to a second source.

      • So far I'd say the chance before the downloads are taken offline are as likely as your discs or carts rotting

But you can't resell digital games, and lending is a lot more difficult.

Considering the lifespan of these cartages should be 20-40 years with proper care - I highly doubt Nintendo will keep downloads available for as long as the cartages last though.

      • Sadly the Lego app on Ipad for my Star Wars robot set is no longer available. The whole point and price premium was for the STEM app. So unfortunately things like this do happen

  • I'm assuming the "Pre-order Price Guarantee" will kick in for those who have already ordered?

    • Nothing so far, I preordered MKW for 109, not sure when BigW will process the refund of price difference l.

      • Says a few days after

        • Just chat with online support, they told me to return and place a new order.

          • @Herre: My chat said it's automatic and will be refunded in 3-5 days…

            • +2

@f4te: They all have different answers….

          • @Herre: Pre-order Price Guarantee
When you pay for your pre-order upfront and the price drops on release day you will be refunded the difference shortly after release.

            • @0 0 0: thanks another customer service confirmed refund will be processed for sure.

  • +1

I want the new Switch 2, but arghhh conflicted as to whether I'll get it at launch (obviously not tomorrow, but dn I say at launch I'm inferring first month of release lol) or wait until Christmas or by June next year.

I was excited for the Switch and hot one just for MK8, built up a solid physical and digital library. But I'd use it daily for weeks, then shelve it for weeks or MONTHS. Still got my moneys worth (base model was around $332, when it should have been $460), with how the retail landscspe has changed in recent years… I doubt I'd see ANY discount at all on the hardware this time around.

I'm not enthused (as yet) by the new MK… Yet I'm being swayed by being able to play Hitman hand held haha.

    • +2

I'm hyped up by the Switch 2 release too, and the cost isn't a barrier, but I'm deciding to hold on to the Switch 1 OLED for the next few years. I'm heavily a handhold player and the OLED display is lovely, and I've accumulated a large collection with a lot of games in my backlog I'm very excited to get to. I'll hold out until there is either an OLED edition, or there is a decent discount on the hardware (~$600) but more importantly a softening of games prices (~$70) if not new then at least secondhand and after a couple of years of releases.

      • -1

If mario kart world is $94 at the moment, I can definitely see it being $70-80 on fb markeplace within the next couple weeks. And of course other games will come down as well + the LCD screen is muchly a non-issue from what we've seen from 99% of reviews - even ones coming from an OLED themselves.

You can do what you want but just something to think about :)

        • +1

I've heard the props on the Switch 2 display. It's not a barrier, but a preference for me. If they release an OLED with Switch 2 specs it's going to be all the better (and more exy, I'll pay).

      • You could already get the switch for $630 through various methods of 10% off. Mario Kart for just over $80. I don't think you'll save much in the long term.

The OLED thing I'm 100% with you on though. Would be amazing to get an OLED model with VRR on the dock too.

    • There will 100% be limited edition ones later down the line, like the Animal Crossing edition Switch 1. I'll wait to see what they look like before I get a Switch 2.

I have my Steam Deck and PC to keep me entertained in the mean time.

  • Must. Avoid. Purchasing.

I wonder if the games this gen will hold their prices like the first Switch. Always found that strange.
