Probably cheap due to being a Chinese brand

Good TV, I bought this just after Christmas. My only complaint is the slow start up time while it gets itself loaded, but apart from that it's good value.

did you turn on quick boot?

      • that's what I get for not messing with all the settings!

Quick boot is quick, now I have no issues with the TV - highly recommend it!

How is this as a PC monitor?

    • -1

It's meant to be used as a TV not a PC monitor.

      • What's wrong with using it as a PC monitor?

        • How far away do you sit to operate your PC? 43" is huge for a standard desk set up..

          • @BeerCrisp: But it will offer great screen real estate at 4k

            • @megadeth: I just back from Costco, the 43" viewing angel is poor,50" and 55" are much better, but too big for my desk.

  • Any discount for the 50 or 55 inch TCL p8 model?

    • They haven't got those models listed on the website.

    • 50" is $442 on eBay @ Appliance Central

    • +1

      Yes,$449 for TCL P8M 50" at Costco.

Also there is a 55" display demo but no price tag.

      • Thank you! Which Costco was this?

Are these TV's made in Wuhan? I believe many Aussies will support them recover before rest of world!

    • Irrelevant to this deal mate. Go do something else for once.

Its perfectly fine to use as pc monitor, this is 4K not 1080p.
    Yes the text is fine.

The only issue is you might have to use the remote to turn off your tv when you shutdown the computer as it doesn’t auto off like the monitor does.

Ideal for Xbox One gaming? should I rush out and get an Xbox One X to go with it (instead of my One S lol)

    • Also keen to know how it'd be for games; does anyone know if it has bad input lag?

  • How are the smart tv options? I bought hisense n7 a while ago and not happy at all. No apps, so updates, youtube is freezing constantly only netflix works properly. How do you rate its smart festures and usefulness

TCL and Sony TVs use Android TV here in Australia. I have a Sony and it's pretty good. Access to google play store and you can also side load android .apk files.

On my Sony its pretty smooth and I have no complaints, granted Sony sits above TCL in specs and is prob a bit more powerful that this TCL TV. But Android TV overall is pretty solid and is updated fairly regularly.

      • Hey Nos I Have a sony too and im happy with it too. So is sony and tcl have exactly same platform? If so I would buy this tv

        • +1

If by platform you mean operating system? then yes. But in hardware no, Sony is miles ahead. You'll get better colour accuracy and better motion when watching a Sony TV and navigating the menus and apps will be a lot smoother and quicker with Sonys better hardware.

  • Does this come with Oreo?

    • Nah it comes with timtam

Has anyone had luck with The Good Guys price matching Costco?

  • +1

I watched some YouTube reviews that shows the TV has Roku in-built. Some comments here says it's Android, not Roku, in Australia. Can anyone confirm please?

    • Hey mate you probably already got your answer, but just in case..

TCL TVs overseas (USA) come with Roku whereas TCL TVs in Aus come with Android. So most likely the reviews you’re seeing are from the US.

AFAIK all the other specs are the same.

      • Thanks mate. Already got one for $420 from The Good Guys, and pretty happy.
Android system has been fine, so far (in a week's use) it has only crashed once while watching Netflix.
