Great deal and nice post for a first timer!

    The eneloops must flow.

  • That looks so beautiful

  • I always saw those at Costco and the batteries were made in China. This might have changed.

    • +5

Charger is made in China but the batteries are made in Japan.

  • Great deal! I've been using a couple of basic sets I bought in 2012 for years and they're still going strong

I've got first generation Sanyo Eneloops from 2006 still going.

    Must..buy..more..eneloops!

  • Wish they were of the same price online as well.

  • omg i just left costco like two days ago and forgot to check this section….

  • I just bought this $49.98 this morning from costco online. Does anybody know if they will give refund?

    • You can call up and ask

      No

What are people still using these batteries for? Genuine question, I nearly bought these the last time a deal was on but it seemed overkill for 2 TV controls and a shaver thats barely used.

    • +3

I bought these to use for my daughter's musical toys. Keeping her busy during this lockdown.

Windows mixed reality controller. These thing sucks up your average 4 AAs dry within 2 hours

Torches, night light xiaomi sensors, heaps of clocks, kids toys, etc etc

    • Oculus VR controller …. thank me latter

      • Kids' toys. Remote controls cars mainly.

    • Mainly used to power my Sennheiser wireless headphones. Occassionally used as a backup battery to keep things running until I get time to buy the cheaper alkaline battery.

    • Xbox controller

Be aware that while these batteries are great, this particular charger is pretty garbage. It just runs on a timer and does not detect when the batteries are full, so will tend to overcharge them. It's also very, very slow.

A $15 LiitoKala Lii-202 would be a worthwhile upgrade and keep the batteries healthy.

If you must use the included charger, try to only put fully drained cells into it to reduce the chance of degrading them.

    • Seems like you know about chargers. What do you think about the IKEA charger?
      The 12$ KVARTS ?

It claims individual charging channels, which is good, but also says "5-8 hrs charge time". This is generally too slow to enable reliable detection of full charge.

Their previous Ladda branded chargers were decent.

        • Thanks a lot.

          That's an interesting website.

        • The manual says it's 4x 1.5V, 0.33A for AA batteries, which is 500mA, so on that side it's suitable for Eneloops.

Personally I'm not sure I'd trust it, but I would expect it to be better than the one included in the kit in this post.

          • @froberts2: The problem is that 0.33A is only a charge rate of 0.17C for a 2000mAh battery.

The most common way to detect whether an NiMH battery is charged is to use an algorithm called "negative delta-v", which looks for a characteristic dip in battery voltage as the cell reaches full charge.

At low charge rates this dip becomes very small and hard to detect, so chargers will often miss it and overcharge the cells. From memory you want to be charging at about 0.5C or greater (about 1A for these cells) for reliable termination.

That being said, my smart charger seems to terminate properly on Eneloops at a 500mA charge rate. I definitely wouldn't go any lower, though.

      This! So very, very this!

If you buy this pack, throw out the charger.

Enloops are difficult to charge. Some people will tell you that slow chargers are better for rechargeables, but couldn't be more wrong for Eneloops. If you charge them with a "slow" charger (eg, 200mA like this one) then it's near impossible for the charger to tell when they are full, so you end up overcharging them which isn't good for the battery life.

This charger is even worse than that - it just charges them for 13 hours then stops. It doesn't matter if they were full after 20 minutes, it still keeps charging them! It also will only charge in pairs of batteries (ie, you can't charge a single battery, although in fairness you usually use them in pairs so that not normally a big issue)

For Eneloops you want at least a 300mA charger (preferably 400-500mA), and one that can detect when they are full. I've been using a La Crosse BC-700 for close to 10 years, and whilst it wasn't cheap, it's been worth every cent. Even this charger struggles to detect when Eneloops are full when used at 200mA, but at 500/700mA it works perfectly.

  • So, the price is instore only? I'm seeing $50 inc delivery (per item)

    • Yup, in store only.

  • is it okay for me to travel 30kms to my local costco?

Your first post be like hitting a century on a debut match! Keep it up. Great deal.

Picked one up this afternoon at Costco Auburn, NSW @ $34.99.

    • Would you be willing to share a copy of the receipt? I bought it from Auburn today for $44.99

      • Just PM’d you.

Thank you OP! They were tricky to find this afternoon but asking a third CostCo staff member was the charm. FYI - Whey they looked up the stock amount it was showing 300 left but there were only 4 remaining in the aisle at the time I picked some up.

    • Maybe you need to raise head to see if any large stock boxes

  • Can confirm Costco Docklands has the same price for this as I bought this last week this price, came instore today and it's still same price like this.

  • Good to see eneloop makes a comeback in the ages and stages of ‘toilet rolls and tissues’ hype :)

  • I'm so sad. IKEA's 4packs are now $15 99 and $14.99 for AA and AAA respectively UwU

  • Would be great to finally get some rechargeables but man, Costco is a lot of effort - I should really cancel my membership.

  • Hahaha regardless of the deal you'll get upvoted for posting eneloops here.

  • My local costco has it at full price.

  • Just been to Costco Docklands.
Lots of stock but at original price.

    • Thanks for the comment, seems like the deal is expired. Initially I wasn't sure about expiry date so didn't added it. I will update the deal is expired.

    • The same as I saw last time at the local store.
I guess the deal(s) may last only 7 days or less instead of those posted on their catalogues
