Couple of must have games 10/10

    • +10

BOTW is the best game on the Switch in my opinion.

      • +11

I think BOTW is great but a little overrated. I know the special feeling people speak of when they talk of this game as I’ve felt it in other games but I not this one. Mario Odyssey is one that I did and like over BOTW. I plan on replaying Zelda soon though, perhaps I’ll like it more the second time through

        • +1

Odyssey is great too but I guess I just keep comparing it to the greatest 3d platformer of all time, Super Mario 64. I cant ever top this game.

          • +1

@J6: I played Mario 64 after Odyssey so have no nostalgic connection to the game. And I have to say it’s held up very well for its age. The game is nothing short of a masterpiece. Same with Ocarina of Time

            • +2

@FireRunner: You definitely need to give Zelda BOTW a chance, it takes some solid hours to get into the game!! In my opinion it beats Ocarina of time and I played that when it was out back in 64 days, also another good one is Twilight Princess Wii U version, so that you can use Pro controller!

              • @Olin: My favourite Zelda is the Wind Waker, and the Wii u version is great!

                • +1

@J6: I only just recently played all of them, I'm just missing Majora's mask. I've attempted to beat it twice now and got side tracked!!

        • +1

The only thing I dislike with BOTW (and other Zelda games) is the ending (or post ending) where when you beat Ganon, it brings you back to just before the final boss instead of to the world after Ganon.

Other than that, BOTW (as someone who wasn't a fan of the series prior) has had me on the switch for longer than the ps4 and I'm a PlayStation guy.

Odyssey was the reason I bought the switch, but it's still in my backlog of games.

        • I never understood the hype, it pales compared to say wind waker. world is empty with no story, memorable bosses or characters or loot . and the weapon durability mechanic is infuriating

        • Zelda is a great game in and of itself. Mario banks on nostalgia. But, to each his own.

      • It's pretty good but it pales in comparison to playing the WiiU version on CEMU.

The graphical fidelity of 4K or Ultrawide resolution combined with further graphics FX and locked 60FPS make it the unofficial definitive version IMO.

Ordinarily I wouldn't say that about an emulated game but it's transformed into something absolutely breathtaking when playing it this way. I couldn't go back to Switch version.

        • +1

I’ve tried Cemu, but the emulator stutters every once in a while which is really annoying. I

          • @FireRunner: Yeah it requires a pretty beefy pc to run smoothly.

Man, you don't need to wonder why the Nintendo share price is doing well when they can get over 60 bucks for a many year old game, whereas Xbox and PS4 games of the same age go for 30….even AAA games!

    • +2

Even $19 for new games on Xbox and PS4. Botw came out three years ago and it still considered a bargain if it goes below $60. However, it's worth every dollar at that price.

    • -4

Not sure on their share price, but it's also the reason why their footprint in the current home console market is so small.

Limited games at a premium Vs majority of releases with knowledge that it will be a lot cheaper in 6months time.

They have their market and I guess they do it well?

      • +3

Actually they have sold more switches than Xbox ones and have only been around for half the time. Also Nintendo now rules the handheld console market.

        • Was it little surprised by that to be honest, so looked up the figures.

It does make sense since the xbox just does not sell outside of the western world though, 12M switched in Japan (~1/4 of their total sales) vs the less than 1/2 million xbones.
Given that its come into a saturated market that had either the ps4 and xbox one already in a lot of homes (not commonly both) with something a little different as has been their MO with their last few consoles, sales will always be quick. Isolation has definitely helped the last couple of months as well.

Nintendo has always ruled the hand-held market, thats never really been in dispute.
Sony never really gave psp or the vita the support it needed outside of the Asian markets to even compete.

          • @2023: It has been doing very well since launch, the lockdown isn’t contributing much to its success.

            • @FireRunner: I know of two people (who have very little gaming exposure) who have bought switches since post-feb covid restricted movements, and one of the sales charts I saw had Feb sales higher on average, just assume they're linked to a degree.

Personaly my wife has wanted to buy one for a while, but in just opposed to paying premium price for games that I have limited time to play.

    • Yeah, exclusivity (no PC version) and planned scarcity means that they can keep the prices pretty high.

They also cater to the type of gaming crowd that buy 2 versions of the same game (pokemon series and fire emblem fates) and amiibos.

    • +1

That feeling when you pay $60 + for a new PS4 game only to see it selling for $20 a few months later. It just isn't worth buying those games at launch.

      • Which is why I stagger my games, which with limited gaming time these days is quite easy.

Makes no difference to me as far as gameplay if I play it the week of release or 6 months later as it's still the same game, in fact a lot of the time a better game.
If I played online it might be a different scenario, but I don't.

The only two games worth buying on the Switch.

    • Ahem Mario Odyssey, Super Smash, Links Awakening, Mario Maker, Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze, Monster Hunter, …
      Not to mention numerous ports

      • Got them all and they're pretty crap, IMO.

I don't have DK CFT though. Any good? Worth buying?

        • +1

Each to their own, I suppose.
I haven't gotten far into DK, quite challenging much better than the "New" Mario (2.5D Mario) series.

  • only if I can get Switch…

  • +3

I've been wanting both games and this isn't a bad price. Thanks OP, may jump on the deal today.

  • +2

    It's back with more stocks

  • Grabbed this. Cheapest I could find BOTW was $73 new.
