[VIC] $8 Lunch Specials (and $7 Chicken Rice) - Petaling Street (Glen Waverley, Clayton, Box Hill, Carnegie)

500

Swung by Kingsway Glen Waverley for the first time in months and although my usual goto is closed, Petaling Street was open.

They are running a great set of takeaway specials at the moment with selected meals for only $8. Unfortunately I did not take a photo but these are the ones I remember:

$8 lunch - 7 days a week
1. Nasi Goreng
2. Special Fried Rice
3. Chicken Fried Rice
4. Vegetable Fried Rice
5. Mamak Mee Goreng
6. Singapore Fried Vermicelli
7. Fried Kueh Teow
8. Fried Beef Hor Fun

From memory there were 2 other dishes including a vegetarian one but I cannot remember, apologies!

After I ordered the boss told me they had 2 new specials starting yesterday.

$7 lunch - Monday & Tuesday
Hainanese (Steamed) Chicken Rice

$7 lunch - Wednesday & Thursday
Roasted Chicken Rice

Family had a very delicious meal and at these prices I really can't complain! Good way to get a good value feed (especially as a treat every now and then) whilst supporting local businesses if you live / work / go through the area. Unsure if this is running at the other locations.

Was very quiet when I went with the inside large enough to stay maintain good social distancing even when waiting food. They also had menus laid out on the table so people no longer had to handle them when ordering (note: some people still do!).

Note: 1% surcharge if paying by card.
Delivery seems possible via EASI app but I haven't tried it.

EDIT: Their Facbeook page has all the official details. Thanks for those that shared this.

Seems like most branches are participating but have their own specials/exclusions so best to call.

  • Thanks mate! I was devo when the Hongkongnese next door seemed to be closed (down). Might give them a go.

  • Same deals running in Clayton store but doesn't have Fried Kueh Teow. I was tried Nasi Goreng last week, not really nice.

    • Why wasn't the NG that nice?

Same specials at the Box Hill branch, the Nasi Goreng and Fried Kueh Teow were good, but Mee Goreng was bland. Serving sizes have dramatically reduced.

    • are we talking about halving in size here or?

      • About 2/3 of the normal serving size.

Their FB page has the full details. I tried the CKT few weeks ago, pretty decent and good value.

Thanks for the link - I was looking for a reference on the website so I'll now update the details accordingly.
Personally I found their hawker dishes quite decent yesterday. We ordered:
      CKT
      Special Fried Rice
      Mee Goreng
      Singapore Fried Vermicelli
      Hainanese Chicken Rice

I didn't get to eat the fried vermicelli but liked all the other hawker dishes.
The Chicken rice was OK only, but I'm a bit picky with my chicken rice so that could be why

Plenty of prawns in the noodles/fried rice. I found the mee goreng was mostly fish cakes.

  • any delivery service?

    • +1

According to the FB page Craze kindly shared - looks like delivery service via EASI is available.

      • is there an Easi android app in English that works? i could only find one in Chinese on Google Play

  • +2

According to their FB page this is for lunch or dinner meal. So it seems not strictly a lunch special but a general takeaway special.

  • While you're out there check out D'Elephant Thai, they have $12 meals, pay by card, no apps.

PappaRich is in the area, but there're closed.

KFC recently-ish opened there too https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/530777

  • Can confirm Petaling Street Carnegie has the same offer. I asked to make the Fried Kueh Teow vegeterian, so that's always an option.
Price might be the same for other branches too, not sure.

  • went to Clayton branch couple days ago, for some reason their CKT price is around ~$12.
