Funny thing is that somebody in my local fb group complained that Starbuy cancelled their order without his consent. Made a huge fuss and told everybody to not buy from Starbuy. His comments were not well received due to the fact that almost everybody loves Starbuy.

This is the initial email of the guy to starbuy - https://imgur.com/a/QbDiMA1

      • Strange, they even left an A4 paper inside the package with instruction to the buyer to check the watch for any defect or scratch on the watch before wearing it and request a return if I did find any, the watch was perfectly and obvious very brand new with tags , overall very happy

      • It's easier for retailers not to bother with these people - especially with a Seiko!

I think the first sentence is absolutely fair though. In fact, I've done the same before. But I wouldn't go so far as to threaten a return. And yes, I've had a pretty badly misaligned watch from Starbuy before - but they thought it looked OK.

It's not really good enough that Seiko continue to pump out ever-increasing divers with poor QC.

      • Lol at the email.
And he wondered why they cancelled the order.
Saying that though, I too am guilty of writing them emails after placing orders.
Though in my experience, they were very helpful and professional about it when I politely requested (no threats) that they pick me one with good alignment .
        Big fan of Starbuy.

I got the complete(?) conversation saved. Basically Starbuy said that it's better for him to visit a retail store in person. This is also because of the caps message that they received with a threat of a return.

The staff also commented in the facebook post as well explaining his side.

          • @xaykogeki: Star buy is in Pitt Street, for anyone in Sydney it's doable to go and pick the model. Do they do the same offers as online?

      • I got 3 Citizen watches from star buy in the past 24months(thanks to ozbargain) and always had smooth operation, prompt shipping, perfect products. I would not even buy watches if was not for ozbargain and starbuy

They are based in Sydney and are Authorized Dealers of Seiko, Citizen and Bulova. So they are legit, you get the full warranty and everything. Much better than buying from a seller who ends up being in HK or Singapore.

This is really a bargain normally at $399 now only at $269

    • Saw that one, not sure about the Green Dial and Face. But good deal considering it comes with a Steel Mesh Bracelet

    • Correction** normal price for this was $ 479, I have been checking it for over a month with this price

I love this quote from the review of that watch on starbuy:

"I would recommend this one for the "over 30s" out there."

I really don't get what that means.

    • Thanks for the heads up. I was more after the dark green one but sold out/more expensive.
After watching videos on YouTube, this olive colour with the white ring looks better. Bought it :-)

Back at $399. So glad I pulled the trigger yesterday!

I like the gun metal case. But, consider that it will be hard to find a bracelet later, due to the gun metal case. You'll have to go the nato, rubber, elastic or gulp…leather route.

    • Personally holding out for a deal on this model, as an OEM Stainless Steel bracelet can be ~$100.

      • You can get decent bracelets on Aliexpress (hollow end links) and then upgrade the clasp.

I went down that route, couldn't justify Strapcode's price for the jubilee.
Due to the weird case shape, lug slope/curve and thickness (these 5 sports, and even worst in Turtles), a lot of elbow grease/dremeling/bending is required and even then results are barely passable. Skill dependent definitely but do go for OEM bracelet if you can.
Much easier and cheaper to source good quality 22mm leather straps or mesh bracelets.

          • @zonra: I thought the 5KX and SKX lugs were the same? My SKX Aliexpress jubilee bracelet is perfect and required no mods or extra work. The clasp was trash. The reviews are always a good guide.

            • @ilikeit: I bought generic 22mm jubilee that required lots of modding.
Great to hear SKX bracelets fit 5KX, I read somewhere that they didn’t, may need to source some now to replace my subpar attempts.

              • @zonra: From my understanding the SKX used thicker string bars and that they didn't fit the 5?

                • +1

@WoodenSpoon: Yeah, forgot that, the SKX uses fatbars. The 5KX normal. My SKX uses normal spring bars on the Aliexpress bracelet. You just have to make sure the tip that sits in the lug is the same size. I believe some of the Aliexpress bracelets are updated to fit fatbars now.

Considering the SKX is a rotation watch, I won't go down the Strapcode path yet. Although they do look sensational.

            • @ilikeit: They are the same as long as you use straight end bracelet, if you bought a curved end one then you will need curve spring bars.
i have tried couple off Ali express metal bracelets and regret that, I know strapcode is pricey but the quality is super and give another feeling to the watch, its a bit tricky to attach the strapcode curved end bracelet but it could be done

            • @ilikeit: PM me a link?

      • Yeah waiting for this be $199 again..

Thanks! This is a great deal, can't wait for the SRPD 79 to have a similar deal https://www.starbuy.com.au/seiko-sports-5-automatic-black-st…

The all matte black look is just so stealth bomber-esque.
