PC Rigs for $700?

Was looking to buy a computer gaming rig for $700~. I only need the tower, and I also have a 12gb ram stick from a friend as well.

I was looking at tech fast builds however the delays are concerning. I would purchase one of their builds though so feel free to link them. If I could get some justification for the reasons why the build is worth the $700 or not worth that would be great.

Thanks!

  • Can you build it yourself for cheaper ?

If you could how much would you charge for labour to put food on the table?

    • I can, have any build recommendations?

  • $700 is one hell of a stretch for a "gaming PC". You'd be far better off continuing to save your money to buy a rig that will perform rather than being disappointed.

At that price point i would def go techfast.

    • Agreed.

I couldn't build a equivalent PC for the same cost as my Techfast one for $700. I DID have some hiccups, and a intermittent faulty GPU, but got them both sorted out fairly painlessly in the end - I'll be returning to Techfast for my next PC when I need it.

      • Also say it costs you $200 more to build.

On a $2000 system thats 10% extra whereas at low price point its much bigger fraction/value effect the way i see it.

        • Almost always it's cheaper to build than buy though - as you're not paying someone for labour if you DIY.

Techfast has been the exception; especially at lower price points

    I also have a 12gb

What specs is it? Model number?

  • If budget was $700 I would look at second hand

  • Look on eBay for a pre-built PC or even a laptop for that $700 mark,
which is not much for a gaming PC; which usually runs into thousands

  • Not sure what that ram stick you have is, if it's DDR4, not familiar with 12GB sticks, afaik you can get 4, 8, or 16GB sticks, not 12GB. Might be a typo but if it's got a sticker please post a picture of it and we can see if that's of any use.

Without knowing if you have useful ram to add, here's what I'd recommend if you're locked into $700 and can build.

Now, at this price point as others have said, techfast offer a similar product, pre-assembled with some pros and cons, here it is - https://techfast.com.au/collections/gaming-pc-under-1000/pro…

Pro - Windows pre installed (not activated)
RX 580 instead of RX 570, with twice the vram, it will perform 15-20% better
    Entire thing pre-assembled

Cons - Their cases have limited airflow, meaning system will likely run hotter
Power supply is unknown and possibly not the greatest, might be ok though
Single DDR4 stick, this means the system will be running in single channel versus dual channel, so this might limit some of the performance gains from the superior GPU, however you'll still likely have at least 10% more performance.

As a PC enthusiast I always suggest people build their own, it's basically lego for adults there's tons of great guilds online on how to do it, and if you're up to saving a bit more money a system like this one would be a much better investment.

Much better CPU, only another $25 for 3x Threads and 50% more cores (6c/12t instead of 4c/4t much more future proofed). $50 more for twice the ram, again will last much longer than 8GB. 4x storage, 120GB after windows won't leave you much space for games, definitely a must have to have an SSD, HDDs are good for long term storage but not great for system speed or game load times.

This is the response I was looking for. I appreciate the effort put into writing that up.

Mind if I inbox you? I have some questions about a few offers I've seen.

      Cheers man!

      • Cool I'll add you mate

  • I'd be looking at a techfast deal. Can't get much at $700 with DIY due the prices of some components at the moment (particularly GPUs).

  • Thread close,

I had some amazing help from another user and was able to order parts for a rig, can't wait to build it.
