They're actually fairly common… micro usb is used for android phones, but mini usb can be used for external hard drives (those portable 2.5" ones) and certain mp3 players uses mini usb as generic connector to PCs as well as some cameras.
Exactly, my canon cameras are using Mini-usb, thanks for pointing that.

ALSO, ive had about 6 of these. they break alot… ie usb function ceases and its ability to retract is something that becomes harder and harder to control lol.

mini usb are less using, micro usb is using more and more, for andriod phone reason.
