  • they finally put dolby vision in their sets here.

How would this compare to say hisense R7/R8

    • +1

      R7/R8 are 100hz panel. TCL P8 is 50hz.

      • I thought the r7/r8 is 50-60hz you got link with info?

Is this part of the 15% off tcl p8m tvs that expires today at most of the big retailers and most are out of stock?

    • +1

      1395 - 15% = 1185 so I would say so.

    50Hz panel, deal breaker

  • sorry to hijack your thread OP.. but what do you guys think of this TV

    hisense 65 inch R6 $895

As a main TV, probably not a good idea. Read the OzB threads for the 65R6

It's also been $700, so YMMV. For the size and price, you may be able to get Local Dimming (disappointing LD, but still okay) and a 120hz/200hz panel on a clearance model, or get shipping/delivery for a similar model TCL or Kogan.

Expect more clearances to happen in the $600 to 1k range, especially with Linsar/ChiQ/Hisense/TCL models and "floor stock" TVs that were supposed to sell in March/ Q1. I wouldn't be surprised to see a 65 Q60r for $900 or the LG UM SN range in a similar price range, but the QD QLED will always have that premium barrier, they have to pay for the name. Same with Dolby Vision support which is chipset limited.

Edge lit is fine, but it won't get very bright.

As something to watch news and youtube, sure. Ie a bedroom or second TV, or a games console. From the few reviews out there, it seems like a good deal, but it's a cheap 50hz panel with little to no motion processing so there will be blur and latency for sport/games.

The upside is that it's cheap and clearance. The downside is that the OS is sLooooo. W. Regardless of Vidaa 3.0 or Roku, it's just cheap hardware.

It's fine as a monitor or panel attached to a faster or newer box, such as a Vodafone TV or shield TV. If you don't like the UI. Perhaps even an xbox or ps4, but I'd read reviews.

      • Great info can you recommend a main TV 65" - 75" for about 1.5k

Got any comment on the C8 or C4US version of the TCL?

      • You wouldn't be surprised to see a Samsung 65" Q60r for $900, best I've seen that is for around $1500 no? I'd jump on that it it was the case.

      • sorry to hijack, but you seem very knowledgeable about TVs.

do you have a 'bang for buck' recommendation for a 75' or larger TV with FALD? I was tossing up between Samsung's Q70 and LG's SM86/SM94, which historically goes for around $3000. Are there more affordable decent models?

  • ok price,
I've had mine for a few months from the November deal when it was $920 after cashback. (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/493616)

Recently been having a few freezes and random resets.
Have been in touch with tech support to try and get it sorted.

I feel like the processor/ram may not be enough to properly run android TV

At this price, I would go for hisense.

You got the old model not the newer PMR Model. I got the PMR model and is working flawlessly. Maybe you need to update the firmware. There's a thread about this on Whirlpool.

      • How much is the new PMR model?

  • +1

If you have betta stores within 20 kms they will deliver it at this price.

  • How does it compare against this deal for the TCL 75" QUHD Android TV - 75C4US? Worth the extra $215?

    https://www.catch.com.au/product/tcl-75-quhd-android-tv-75c4…

    • Pretty sure it's an older model 2018 to 2019 for the P8. Thinking that updates won't last if at all after a couple of years.

  • $1099 at Costco if you're a member (or price difference could subsidise a membership) until today. Had about 8 in stock Sunday at Ringwood, but seemed to be going quickly.

im waiting for a good deal on a good tv, i remember the ru7100 65 it came down to 800 in December (it was actually 900 but someone managed to negotiated down to 800 and uploaded the receipt), i wish i had bought it, i kept waiting for a better deal. what a mistake..

the ru7100 is the minimum you want to get really, anything lower grade from these aldi or mid range tlc/hisense are inferior, specially the p8m compared to the ru7100. the screen is way darker, i watched a review about it.

    • what about the TCL C8 would that be better then then RU7100 ? as im looking to upgrade from 55" 7100 to a 75" c8 TCL

      • +1

no mate i dont think its an upgrade, wait for ru8000 deal, its what im waiting on. its an upgrade from the ru7100 for sure. its much brighter and better remote. or if you want to pay more than maybe their clearing stock for samsung q70 qled. q60 qled is garbage its not real qled its edge lit qled. i found this out recently.

        • thanks yeah been put off samsung as they have been getting worse as the years go on the NU8000 way ahead of the RU8000 / TU8000.

          Might look into the Q70.

  • Can anyone suggest a good android app to maximise the color settings of the TV. A lot of the factory settings are rubbish but can be tweaked to provide quite a nice picture.
