From the website: The Surge 2:

On the way to Jericho City, your plane is shot down by a mysterious storm and crash-lands in the outskirts. You wake up weeks later in a derelict detention facility inside the city. Armor-clad soldiers enforce Martial Law, robots are on a rampage, and a dark, expanding nanostorm looms over the cityscape…

In a bid to survive, explore the sprawling, devastated city of Jericho. Fight its numerous, ferocious threats in brutal, unforgiving combat, slashing and tearing the limbs off your opponents to steal valuable equipment that will make you stronger - strong enough to face the most fearsome, imposing foes lurking in the city. With an expanded arsenal of weapons, armors, abilities, implants, and drones to build your character, and a bigger, more varied and more ambitious world, The Surge 2 challenges you to survive and unravel its hidden secrets.

  • Hardcore, brutal melee combat
  • Face deadly foes and colossal bosses
  • Cut off parts of the enemy you want to loot
  • Rich character progression and customization

From the website: Broken Lines:

Your squad has crash-landed behind enemy lines, in the heart of an alternate history Eastern Europe. With no intel or leadership to support them, these soldiers must fight their way back home before the horrors of war break them. Teamwork and strategy are paramount…

Each soldier has their own personality and ideas on what needs to happen next. Some want to investigate what caused the crash that left them in hostile territory, while others want to lay low and wait for rescue. There are even whispers of desertion.

You are the “unseen hand” that guides this ragtag group of soldiers to safety and possible rescue. Whether it’s as simple a choice as to which way to go next, or something as serious as how to engage their mysterious foes, every decision you make is serious and significant.

Broken Lines combines a tactical RPG with story-driven gameplay. As your soldiers battle the mental strain of war, you’ll need to command them in combat— will they avoid the enemy, or go head to head with their foes?

Combat is similar to that of a turn-based tactical RPG, but soldiers move only when action phase starts. However, when new enemies and hazards appear, the game pauses to allow you to plan your reaction to this new change. Will you continue to charge forward, or back off and seek cover?

Choices you make will shape the story to your liking leading to a different campaign endings. Choose wisely as your progression through the game will affect not only soldiers you command but also a whole region and everyone who happen to live here. But you should also keep in mind that your soldiers have their own opinion on what is good for the squad so you have to maintain a balance between what you want them to do and what is good for keeping the squad in high spirits.

Enjoy!

  • I feel like I have The Surge or maybe the sequel on my Steam pile of shame. I can't comment if it is any good or not though.

Broken Lines looks good, almost Frozen Synapse/X-COM/Commandos combo.

  • surge 2 is the crappiest game ive played in a long time. ridiculously hard so early and no check points (so far). you die a lot and have to restart from the beginning of the level.

Are you sure it is the game that sucks?🤔😉

      • hehe. yeah i wondered that while playing but then read reviews and they agreed with my view.

        • Most reviews have been very positive. What you described is a very dark souls like experience which it is.

    • Had you played The Surge (1) prior to the sequel? This is exactly how I felt after trying Nier Automata (which I have yet to go back to).

I am about 5/8ths through The Surge (1) at the moment, and totally loving it, but it's been a journey; it's an acquired taste. I just finished Jedi Fallen Order, another Dark Souls-inspired game, and I had read that The Surge was harder than Jedi Fallen Order so I was at least somewhat prepared for the brutal shock that was to come. Starting over and over again from the same medical bay / operations centre. Tweaking one's approach, one's equipment, trying out new paths, new theories. It's a very different type of game compared to something like Assassin's Creed (I finished Odyssey prior to Jedi Fallen Order). I'm about 50 hours into The Surge so far.

It's taken me a couple of days each to beat most of the bosses in the game, of which there aren't too many (thankfully). I'm pretty rubbish at this kind of precise gameplay, but I'm challenging myself to get better. And, surprisingly, I'm enjoying the process.

I can't wait to play The Surge 2 after this.

If it isn't already obvious, I haven't played any games by From Software. They're next.

      • I havent played Surge 1 I avoided it based on the reviews. For whatever reason I bought Surge 2 on release and love it. I heard its better than S1 in every way. I haven't played any of the Souls games, I've only played BB and liked it but the story lost me towards the end. I hated Nioh, first game i turned off mid way through and put it on gumtree.
