    • Ordered something from Catch 3 weeks ago and they haven’t sent it, and keep sending me different bullshit excuses. They are even more unreliable than usual at the moment. I wouldn’t risk it.

    • wow…catch looks like out of stock

    • just got refunded from catch.com.au, said they had no stock even though the orders went through. probably won't use them for the time being

  • +1

they restocked yesterday.. try call your local now!!!

    • Yep, I called quite a few near me as the website was showing available.
Most mentioned they received about 15 units, but many were already pre-ordered by people who went in store to pay a $50 deposit.
None left in VIC - Essendon, Highpoint and Broadmeadows. (Broadmeadows had one left and they would not put it on hold. I had to risk driving there and hoping that someone did not buy it before I got there. Risk paid off).

  • +2

Big W Top Ryde (NSW) has it in stock

    • what's the price at Big W?

    • Legend. Went down and bought one. FINALLY!

  • +2

Super tempted but do you think it's worth holding out for a better deal in May or June? If they're shipping another 20 million units I expect there will be a deal or two to be had.

    • +4

Depends if you want to play now or wait for the chance of saving a few dollars.

      • I actually sold mine not long ago as I'd played everything I was interested in and figured I'd buy a new one later or next year…

…and then they announced the Mario Maker 2 update!

    • +1

Or buy it with a 28 Degrees credit card now and claim price difference when the market is flooded with Switches ;)

      • I don't actually own a credit card at all, and I don't know what a 28 Degrees card is but sounds like it's worth looking into but probably won't be in time to purchase this time around hehe

        • +1

That price difference doesn't apply to new customers I believe.

          • +1

@scuderiarmani: That's correct, price protection is not offered to new customers anymore.

      • how long can the period be to claim price protection?

        • +1

With the 28 degrees card its 12 months.

  • why do people want to play AC so much…looks pointless

    • +1

Man I tried and it is so slow and boring. I don't get it at all.

    • +8

Could say the same about annual FPS games…. annual sports games… everything really….

Animal Crossing is rewarding in it's own way, it offers creative freedom, something not many games do.

    • +1

People enjoy different stuff, all good.

    • It's a life sim essentially, those types of games have been an incredibly popular genre for years.

    • -1

Same reason there are feet people.

    • +1

      Cos Assassin's Creed is mint

  • +1

too many kids nowadays wanting the switch.

    • +1

actually it might be the DADS who are forced to work from home. Too much spare time. Might as well buy a family friendly console.

      • Wife's idea.

        I game to get away.

    • Yeah my wife suggested it. Kids wanted a PS4 but Switch is great for co-op type games and there's less temptation to get into the shooty-shooty games for the kids.

  • +2

Not sure if i missed anything but why switch is so booming atm???

Months ago switch bundle at 400 people said its just ok deal. Now console only at 450, all people jumping in??

    • +1

Probably Animal Crossing…. but maybe people at home bored… maybe the stimulus bonus….

      Maybe all of the above.

    • my kid stays at home and always play through ipad. We thought it could be better idea to play on TV. I guess the demand is up since people stay at home now.

  • i bought it for less than $350 during last year's black friday sale, and it was not even the cheapest. Still I feel lucky.

    • +3

      Still I feel lucky.

      Do ya….punk?

  • -3

Plenty available at EB Games stores according to their website. Can price match. Hopefully stock in near your local.

    • Thought EB stopped matching any console prices ages ago? Initially bundles, but now even standalone…

      • You may be right on that one. Nonetheless an extra $20 if you miss out.

    • +3

      says only available for preorder

    • You must be looking at the lites because they do not have the regular switches in stock, even if you preordered a month ago

  • +10

    Is this OzBargain or OzBackin?

    • +1

That was clever - I haven't seen the 'Backin pun before. I also like that you resisted using something with a great number of syllables - it loses the similarity and upsets the meter. e.g. OzRRP, OzFullPricedItem, OzWasMuchCheaperOnBlackFridaySale.

In summary, well restrained, and a bonus point for it being a 'B' word. It's an 8 out of 10 from me.

    • Solys, I give you massive credit for the OzBack-in (stock) comment. It is actually original & funny, but I'll be using it from now on, lol… :)

  • Saw ACT-Belconnen has stock around 12pm, called them saying 3 left. Went there after 20 mins, all gone. Asked the sales guy whether he can transfer from another store, he helped to get one from Shellharbour NSW, but have to wait till sometime next week to pick up.

    • +1

You'd wonder why they'd bother transferring it for you… not like it wouldn't sell where it is too,

If they do, half your luck :)
Should give them some repeat business…

      • Do staff get any kind of commission on sales?

        • I believe they do. For store transfer may be shared commission?

      • +1

He didn't reject my idea when I asked, but did mention the other store may want to keep the stock by themselves. He called Wagga Wagga (has 6 units in stock) store first, but Wagga Wagga rejected the request. He then tried Shellharbour, which is happy to do the transfer. There is another customer who was looking for something else which was not available in ACT-Belconnen, the sales guy serving him was organizing store transfer or pick up from ACT-Fyshwick store. I think it's their common practice now.

  • Hmm..Tempted. I want to get it purely for Tetris 99.

  • Why are these selling out everywhere?

    • +4

Limited stock, Animal Crossings released, Quarantine

  • Some available at Warrawong

  • Can these be still jail broken?

    • +1

Nope, but there is a mod chip coming out very soon that will work on all versions.

  • Neon all the way baby!

  • Called Melb Central. No stock nearby. Best bet is suburban stores as he said 1-2 week wait for more.

  • +1

    https://www.catch.com.au/product/nintendo-switch-joy-con-con…

Available on catch right now, QUICK GUYS

  • Where do you guys buy games from? Better to buy brand new or is pre-owned from JB/EB okay?

  • Having only played mostly PC and Xbox games, why is the switch so expensive even the used ones ?

    • +1

It's a trend and Nintendo has that family vibe going on.

  • +1

Just thought I'd put it out there, Nintendo are planning to increase their Switch production and this may lead to its price going back to how it used to be. Also don't flame me for asking this, but even if this is a reflection of the current market is this really a "bargain"? From my perspective this is essentially a standard price for a Nintendo switch and has only been posted to inform people of their availability which from my understanding isn't really the purpose of this forum.

  • BIGW Eastland VIC got about 10 console in stock atm, and plenty animal crossing

  • Thanks OP got one in Chermside, they have more stock. Please call before going.

  • 13 switch consoles left at Shellharbour store as of 3pm.

  • -2

I'm not sure why this is a deal. I bought my switch 3 years ago for $410, and that was a deal that popped up a few times before pulled the trigger.

It really does hold its value!

    • i guess it went up because of cheaper AUD now.

    • +2

this isn't a deal, it's just a post saying there's stock for something that is hard to buy at the moment - just like all these soap/toilet paper/hand sanitiser "deals".
also your switch 3 years ago isn't the same switch as this one, albeit it can play all the games etc but even before covid times the original switch was about $50 cheaper than the new switch

      • Wow I didn't notice the shortage of the Switch. I guess it makes sense, now everyone's at home and needs some sort of entertainment.

  • 11 stock left at JBHIFI watergardens as of 3:43pm , just bought one so thanks op! Also have lots of animal crossing aswell there

    • rang today, none left apparently.
looks like vic is bendigo, ballarat, but someone said they rang them and they had none?

  • Ipswich has 11 left getting mine now!

  • Big W seems to have it in some stores or home delivery at the normal price if you cant find any near you, i am not getting it, just been watching prices

  • Had no idea these were still pricey. Im a bit out of the loop with the Switch - reading a bit of the above it seems stock is really hard to get a hold of - whats the reason behind that?

    • A few reasons, Chinese parts factories not open as much lately and or slower shipments, people home wanting to play them while in isolation and Animal Crossing that i wonder why is so popular haha, not that i have played.

  • +1

Everyone seems to still have their job! that is great!

    • +2

Coming out from their welfare payment hahaha

  • cheers mate managed to get one

  • DM me for a friend invite if you wanna get absolutely destroyed in Mario Kart.

  • +1

I remember buying this new for $390 and it came with a game

    • Time has changed pal. There's less incentive for them to drop prices when the demand is so high. This can last as long as the pandemic is pretty much an every day thing.

  • None in WA

  • Thanks OP JB Helensvale on gold coast have a few left from the 40 they received this morning . Snagged one!

  • Cheers got one from Wollongong, they still had about 10..

  • SA stores received there yesterday

  • Ipswich sold out. Got 1. Thanks for the heads up I paid a little bit more than the Gameguys or whatever they're called and got it quicker.

I'll sort out games and accessories tomorrow. Will save a bit on them buying second hand.

  • If i pick only ONE ns game, which one is recommended? animal crossing or zelda?

    • +1

I would say Zelda as it has a proper appeal. Animal Crossing is an acquired taste, not for everyone's liking.

      • Breath of the Wild or Link's Awakening?

        • +1

Breath of the wild is the more impressive game

  • Went in tonight to the Waurn Ponds store (I had to return a keyboard anyway) and asked if they had any left, they said they got 50 in last night and all were sold out.

I probably should have rung earlier in the day. Oh well, next time maybe.

  • Thanks, managed to snag one at my local JB now all sold out!
They were sold out of Animal Crossing but Big W had it.

    • I am quite new to this. I thought you can buy from eshop and download to microsd card? Is there any advantage to buy the game card? Looks like game card is $10 cheaper than online download. Is that the main reason?
