Free: Nvidia RTX Voice (Background Noise Canceller) for RTX 20xx, GTX 9xx, 10xx & 16xx Series GPUs Compatible w/Workaround

2450

RTX Voice filters background noise from both audio input and output with Nvidia Tensor cores.

First, the good news: Nvidia's RTX Voice technology actually works really well. As you can hear in the test sample below, turning on the feature filters out almost all of the mechanical keyboard clicking picked up by a standard webcam microphone. That's likely to be an especially useful feature for anyone who has tried typing notes during a Zoom video call or dealt with kids screaming in other rooms during the same.

This noise-cancelling app is pretty incredible in action. I conducted a few tests last night before going to bed in which I ran random YouTube videos of conventions and other noise-filled areas through the filter. Sure enough, conversations were plucked out and put on center stage, with only the tiniest noise warbles indicating that background noise may have originally been there.
Reminder that the app works this way for your purposes, as well. Do you have a Zoom meeting with someone whose window is open or whose family members chatter in the background? Nvidia RTX Voice can be toggled to process the audio you receive, so you don't have to hear Jake in Accounting's 8-year-old muttering in the background ever again (even if Jake doesn't use this app).

Officially, RTX Voice is only supported by Nvidia RTX 2xxx cards like the RTX 2060, but a workaround for GTX 9xx, 10xx and 16xx series Nvidia GPUs exists. Even older Nvidia GPUs with varying levels of success. Premodded .exe from Guru3D

Requirements:

  • Windows 10 (Also works on Windows 7)
  • Driver 410.18 or newer
  • Compatible Nvidia GPU

Supported Apps:

thanks! really appreciate it :) you'll quickly see that pretty much all the tech is funded from Oz Bargain deals haha. I have a vid coming soon on acoustic panels I built using the Bunnings Gift card from the Drone price error haha.

  • Confirming - works fantastic on my GTX 1070 with workarounds. Was concerned it would have a performance hit, but here are my findings:

Uses about 700mb in memory, 7% CPU (3.5GHz quad core) and 2% GPU when an application is listening (discord listens even when you use push-to-talk and don't press anything).
When it's just sitting in the background waiting, still uses the 700mb memory but so close to nothing else that you can't measure it with task manager.

  • Mind you this does affect FPS in games.

    • How bad is the performance hit?

It's pretty bad, Borderlands 3 was unplayable on my 1070 with both input and output being filtered, the problem stopped when I disabled the lot.

That being said, it had no impact on my WoW experience.

        • So may be okay to use on Esport titles then, but not more demanding AAA games.

      • How bad is the performance hit?

Done some testing, the performance hit is quite severe under Pascal, but not really noticeable under Turing. Early reports I've read are saying that it's because Turing can offload the processing to the tensor cores, but there's also an alternative code path that allows it to run using regular CUDA cores, which is what Pascal is doing.

        • This is probably why nvidia didn't bother allowing gtx10xx users access to it.

  • got my friend installed on day one (2070s), finally i can bare to play game with him.

  • If only there was a way to use my 2080Ti from my desktop with my work supplied laptop for WebEx/Meets :(

      • I want RTX Voice on my work laptop but not that badly that I'd spend >400 on an eGPU Box :) Thanks anyway for the suggestion!

  • This is brilliant, I have a 1050 so I'm looking forward to testing it out for conference calls.

My suggestion would be to download the original file form nVIDIA directly as opposed to using the pre-modded file. While I am sure there is nothing amiss, it's always good to get the file from the trusted source then modify it yourself, especially with drivers that have lower level system access. Here's my mini review - using RTX Voice with a Surface Book 2 and GTX 1050. Had to use nVIDIA Graphic Settings to prioritise discrete graphics over the integrated Intel chipset.

I tested using Surface Book 2 inbuilt mic array, a Jabra Speak 510 Noise Cancelling conference phone and a Microsoft LifeCam Studio web-cam.

The keyboard typing suppression was amazing on all mic devices. However my voice did not work well with the Jabra because as nVIDIA suggest, you shouldn't have noise cancelling on another device with this enabled. With the inbuilt Surface Book 2 mics, it wasn't as bad but it still sounded like I was talking with a lisp. With the webcam, it eliminated ambient noise and keyboard entirely, but still my voice wasn't 100% perfect (clipping or muffled on certain words). Reducing the suppression level improved it a little.

I'm super impressed by how well it works to remove keyboard noise in real time with little set-up. I won't be using it on conference calls (yet) because of the voice distortion, but it's not even meant to work on my device and it's almost usable. Over time I think this will either improve or similar functionality will be built in to other applications as well.

May still use it in a pinch if I have to remain unmuted but also type furiously! It might also be good with a simple headset - I'll give that a test next.

  • for those with surface book 2, to enable this to all work, make sure you have the most up to date compatible drivers.
442.72 for the GTX 1060, clean install. Newer versions are incompatible with surface book 2 atm…. Thanks microsoft and nvidia

  • While this software works amazingly it's never been paid and I don't believe they have any intention to charge for it. Free software belongs in the forum.

    For anyone with an older GTX GPU, Nvidia has released a patched version that works OOTB with GTXs, no hacking required;

For those of you that want to try out the AI noise removal capabilities but aren’t ready to upgrade to an RTX GPU yet, we have also patched RTX Voice with support for NVIDIA GeForce GTX GPUs. Though, of course, your mileage may vary on older cards.
