  • What's the benefit of renting comparing to subscribing to Netflix?

    • +34

Movie and shows that aren't on Netflix

      • No new movies in Netflix

    • +2

They're not really comparable. Renting can be cheaper per unit cost of each TV ep/movie, but usually Netflix/Stan/Prime/etc would win on cost, provided you watch a bunch of the content they have.

    • +6

Access to just about any new movie released digitally and no ongoing cost.

      • +4

Okay I see, so mostly for things that are not on Netflix, or if you only occasionally watch movies

        • +1

New to rental also aren't typically $0.99 (unless through an offer) and you only have access to them for 48 hours once you start watching. Netflix is more bang for buck!

    • +3

Netflix in Australia is mostly for series.

Selection of recently good movies is actually better on Amazon Prime Video

    • Cheaper if you spend less than the nexflix sub amount per month.

The flash movie is not on sale…

    Gattaca 99 cents. Great movie

    • +7

You can watch Gattaca for free on SBS On Demand with the odd ad.

"2ForTheMoney" Thanks for the heads up, had a look at trailer and grabbed it.

"Ciderfizz44" Just saw your comment and too late but would have seen it on SBS on Demand, oh well,…0.99C lol.

        • +1

Oh no, searched the Amazon Prime Movie list for Gattaca ( am a member but rarely think to use it lol ),

and it's there, so now I definately feel like I Waste a $. You live and learn, will check before I pull the trigger so quickly ll.

@ozhunter68: https://www.justwatch.com/au is pretty reliable for what's available where - Gattaca's not available in Australia, so don't feel too bad

            • @The Vat: Just had a quick at justwatch, is that a membership payment service, most likely not free lol.

              • +1

@ozhunter68: No, it just points to what movies/TV shows are where, with links to the various sources showing pricing as applicable. There's no payment for using it to search for titles or streaming services.

            • +1

@The Vat: Thanks. JustWatch will be very helpful.

      • +2

99c to save 10 minutes (approx.) watching adverts. I'd take the free 10 minutes for 99c!

        • Anyway some people need bathroom breaks.

          • +2

@bajirao: Good point. Adult nappies for improved efficiency you reckon?

      • +3

In fact, SBS On Demand is most undervalued streaming service. Why pay when so much is free?

      • I know this defeats the purpose of free or even 99c for Google Play but I use Allavsoft to download anything I want to watch on SBS and watch it later without ads. But once you have the Prog you use it forever and it's handy as it downloads (most shows) from the other Oz channels as well. I originally got it free on BitsDuJour a couple of years ago and it pops back up now and then. I ended up buying it eventually so I could get updates.

Thanks TRENT86 for this post :)

There are 66 0.99c movies to choose from, more for $1.99-$2.99 each too.

  • Couldn't find many new movies except for Zombieland Double Tap for $2.99.

  • +4

Browsing the movies reminded me of the old video rental store deals - Get 2 new release and 5 weekly movies for $10 or there abouts. Currently have Netflix so I'll pass, some good, but old movies are going cheap, but nothing new that I could see for under a buck.

    • Most of the $0.99 should be that price all the time now. Most if not all would have been on tv and certainly would be a weekly video rental from a store.
